Heath Evans wants to play for Saints or Pats | ProFootballTalk

Heath was a true Patriot and professional player for the Patriots in his years here and finally went on to a more active role in the Saints offense.

The Saints may very well go on this year without Evans leaving Evans with a big desire to come back to New England

Question is will there be room for him?.....I think Ridley is going to be instantly moved into that type of role on this team that Evans once had and I don't see any place to keep him here.

Like a fish needs a bicycle.

Assuming rosters are expanded to 60 players, I'd love to have him.

Take that vaudeville act on the road JO and Clay :D

Unfortunately, there isn't a roster spot for him. The Pats already have four TEs on the roster.

Well:
(A) Crumpler is rehabbing from shoulder surgery, so it's at least possible he retires/gets cut. That said, if he's healthy and wants to play, I can't see the Pats cutting him.
(B) If Evans can play STs, the Pats could cut, say, Tracy White to make room for him.

Wasn't Tracy White one of our better special teamers last year?

I say bring him into camp. There's always the chance of a RB/TE injury that would open up a spot. It would also push the rookies with a guy who knows the system, so they'd be motivated to study up. I think he's a better insurance policy in camp than someone like Clayton.

Evans could fill the role of overpriced vet that makes no contribution......I'd rather the Pats get themselves a Gangsta/ExCon leader of men

PASS

Gronk, Hernandez, Crump, Smith is how it will be:rocker:

If Faulk retires it could be a battle between Morris and Evans...( that's assuming the youngsters stay healthy and BB keeps 5 RB's).....

Heath would probably be a longshot, although he's a Patriot type player...

TE/FB/ST ...

I still can't see Evans playing a back up role at this point. He would be at best third on the depth chart. Crumpler is close to the end of the line and ok with being primarily a blocking TE only. Will Evans be ok with a similiar role and be willing to take the kind of money for a back up.

I think it is moot. He will be resigned by the Saints and be given a starting role. He will get money and playing time that the Pats won't give him.

No room at the inn

1. He's not a good blocker, so he's not an option or a need at TE.
2. He's not much of a runner, goes down on first contact, so he's not a good option at RB/FB.
3. Vereen and Woodhead are on the team if you want to throw to a back.
4. Eric Kettani should be available to compete for a roster spot as a short yardage back, FB, HB. Younger, cheaper.

Are 14 players @ these skilled positions too many?

That's what the Pats carried at the start of last year (5 RBs, 3 TEs, 6 WRs = 14). That said, if they're going to keep Mallett on the 53, that means cutting one position somewhere else on the roster.

it's too bad we cannot make a contract to a player w/ no twitter, no reality TV clauses the NFLPA would whine... Ocho would be a nice #6 he needs to take the ME out of Team. If he were to do those 2 things for me... sign him. He is a good player and a hardworkwer I just hate the twitter and reality tv publicity. If all that were gone I would sign him w/o 2nd thinking it. I believe he has some real GOOD with in. Too bad their is no consistency switch to turn on to make him obey:cool:

edit our ST crap receiver gets boot.

you always have a field goal kicker on the field in ocho ;-)

it must be done... DL is easiest to pick up out of all positions. Our worst D-lineman cut him

is Stroud even worth it at this point??? He is a 4-3 cat not a 3-4
