Do We Know What We Have in Maroney Yet?

At this point Addai is better. He can make something from nothing, Maroney can't. Once Maroney gets through thte line he is electric, but more often than not, he gets stoned at the LOS. Party it's our line, it sucks, no holes, but his reed thin legs just can't plow through people.

I will admit that, if neither improve at all Addai will have a better career. It is better to be worse at the end of runs than the beginning. Addai seems to be better in the passing game too, although Maroney is very good for a rookie that had limited experience with that in college.

That said, I wouldn't trade Maroney for Addai right now. As I said before, Addai is in a prefect situation that plays to his strengths. If they switched places, I feel pretty confident that we would have a similar conversation with the names reversed.

I guess I am saying that I think Addai is a good solid all around back, but Maroney just has that little something in him that makes me think he is going to be special.

Here is the big thing you guys are all missing. When Defenses scheme against the colts all the attention is turned to Harrison, Wayne, and Manning. Defenses scheme to take away the Colts passing attack FIRST . Adai benefits greatly from this. When opposing defenses schem against our Pats, they focus on the run first. Watch the games. Adai isn't in Maroney's class as a RB. If you polled current an dpast coaches and players a great percentage would easily take Maroney. Maroney only averages 10 touches a game, there isn't a real big Body of work there or opportunity to get into the game. After watching him I have no doubt that next year when he is the featured RB and gets 20 touches a game, he will be a Pro Bowl runner. I can't believe some people are saying Adai or Willie Parker are better RB's.

Not all of us

While Addai has been surprisingly excellent in Indy, I am not willing to go that far yet. Addai plays in a system where he faces nickle defenses on 1st down and, even if that is not the case, almost never faces 8 men in the box. This plays perfectly with his strongest point, which is that he is a powerful runner.

By comparison, Maroney almost never *doesn't* face 8 men in the box on 1st down, and even may on 2nd downs. This plays against Maroney's weakest link, which is he still has a propensity to dance into a hole and look for a bigger play. Maroney has significantly more big play potential than Addai, but he does need to work on charging into the hole more. If he continues to stutter-step into the line than he will be what he is; a guy with unlimitied potential who doesn't quite live up to it.

If Maroney can learn to drive into the hole than watch out, because he has everything else you could ask for in a dominant back.

I'm not sure it would be fair to say, "YES - all-pro ability" but to say that he has only above-average ability - what are you WATCHING? The guy is being brought along slowly, he's had some typical rookie ups and downs, but he has the whole package. Everyone who seems him play - not just us, but teammates, local media, national media, coaches, literally EVERYONE - loves this kid's upside. So far he's been terrific. Not sure on what you're basing such a tempered outlook, but I sure hope you're wrong.

"Little to suggest he will have all pro ability?????"

Show me were I say "he has only above average ability". That is a blatent misquote! For the love of god I bought his jerseys just last week. I have hope. To date he has had a marginal impact at best. Most of his contributions have been via the kickoff returns. Have you taken the time to look at his production since the Cincy game? I dont really care what everyone thinks how he looks. I only care that he is able to produce and help the team win. Do we need a thread listing the laundry list of all the picks everyone thought looked good.

hhmmmm...Kleco looked pretty good at one point. But seriously, it *looks* like Maroney has more upside than he is currently displaying. I'm kind of interested in what he's going to look like when he grows up. Marshall Faulk was a nice comparison.

I don't think Addai is "better" so far. He has been more consistent although he's also got a more feared passing attack and gets more consistent carries. However Maroney has had more big plays. I think he's shown more upside and, so far, Addai has been more consistent although I'm not sure if that's the player or the situation.

Marshall Faulk? I hope he is half as productive as Faulk. Faulk has almost 20,000 combined yards and over 100 TDs.

Lets hope...

Who said "reed like legs" Maroney is #3 in the NFL in YAC and with Dillon showing him the ropes the kid is going to shine. We will all be shouting his name from the highest mountain! (ok, I got a little carried away)

he will be a great player; i think he will be terrific.
this year has allready showed what he can do

i'm very optimistic in him and i hope he will be our RB for many many years

a great pick !

when i watch Maroney..he has a lot of Larry Johnson in him..fast..strong. Maroney is quicker and faster with LJ having more power but term of running style they make similar moves and get yards after contact

Our Boyis stomping on this years draft sweetheart Reggie Bush. Maroney will be a strong starter, a big influence as a Patriot, and a key part of our next ring! I also believe his potential as a return specialist is just beginning to be realized. GO PATS!

Does anyone know yet if it looks like he will play against Miami?

It's hard to get Pats news out here in Kansas...everything is Chefs, Chefs and nothing but the Chefs
