Another great article...looks like other FOs have it a lot worse..I think understanding what other clubs face and how they handle situations is interesting and useful in looking at how the FO here does. Of course they make mistakes as all do, but in comparing with others, one can see they are closer to being correct than others.

I see the number being closer to $30 million (116-77). It should be a very interesting offseason, the Pats really need to get younger at LB and add depth to the secondary, Hard to imagine they will spend premium money on more than one position.

Actually, it might be a tough year for the Patriots to sign FAs - again. See clip below from Miguel's great URL reference.

Article also says NFL has set 2007 cap at 109M and 2008 at 116M.

According to Miguel's projections, the Pats are a tad over 30 million under the 2007 cap. There will be approximately 5.5 million set aside for draft picks leaving about 24.5 million before any escalators or other NLTBE bonus money that has to be carried over.

I figure the Pats to be players in the market. At least with Graham and Samuel. Unless, Samuel decides he is worth 6 mill a year (which he's not).

be the most important. I want to extend Warren before he enters the last year of his contract. Don't even let him think of going anywhere else. I don't see Graham's value too high. I'd like to keep him. But, really. He's not worth
going crazy over. For one year. A guy like Kyle Brady can give you close to
what Graham does. We may already have Asante's replacement on the roster.
E.Wilson. I'd like to draft a s and a cb early. Safety starts. While, we get to see what Geno can do at cb. If he ain't cutting it. We have his replacement
on board already.

I'm hoping we sign a big-time lb. IE. A.Thomas or L.Briggs. I wouldn't be
shocked if we traded for a veteran to plug a hole either. A la C.Dillon in 04.

Warren is signed for two years after this one. His contract expires after 2008 and Seymour/Wilfork after 2009. There's no urgency at all although I love having those guys so much I wouldn't be the least but upset if we extended them all through 2010.

The Pats didn't give Brady or Seymour a contract extension on their rookie contracts prior to 1 year before the contract was up. They aren't going to make an exception for Warren.

With how well the Pats have managed the cap, I am not worried, in the least about extending Warren.

I think that BB allowing Graham to be named a Captain is a huge plus for Graham and is a sign to Graham that BB wants him around. I think that the Patriots might pay more than we expect for Graham. Probably in the 3 mil a year range.

My bad. I thought he did a 5yr deal when drafted. Both lines of scrimmage locked in for the next two years. The best qb in the league. Plenty of cap room to fill out the rest of the squad. I see very good days ahead.
