Tony Parrish

Anyone have an opinion on Tony Parrish for depth in the secondary ? He was released today.

Then again, maybe we shouldn't sign any Safeties... it seems to cause them to get injured & end up on IR.

i think the colts will sign him..if he plays the run as claimed

I think the Pats will take a look at him, but I doubt they will sign him. If he doesn't start on one of the worst defenses in the NFL, how good can he be? A couple years ago he was regarded as one of the best safeties in the league, so who knows. If the Pats do sign him, it couldn't hurt.

Not a good player. Very slow. Still hits hard. Can be an asset in the run game.

he was a playmaker..big hitter and a ballhawk.


49er fans loved him..had a bad leg injury last year and wasnt consistent enough this year..hes a leader..role model..works very hard and i think he can still play

Glad someone posted this idea. I've liked Parrish for years, a very high effort type of guy, who likes to hit. Getting cut from the 49'ers is pretty scary, they have an awful D and have trouble stopping the run. I admit I haven't seen him play much at all this year so I can't vouch for his present condition.

Maybe BB will take a look and see some of his heart and soul, like he did with Seau. While Parrish isn't headed to the HOF like Junior, he does seem to carry a large presence around on the field, factor bound to help the youngsters.

But he had an offseason to recover too. Maybe if he were signed in the offseason i would be all for the move but right now i dont see how this makes any sense from our point of view. He's hurting and its showing in his play.

I've always thought of Parish as a guy BB would like.
However, Ive never seen a lot of success in chasing guys who used to be good but have declined.

Analogy:
Most good safeties start out as something like Dexter Reid, grow into good players, then slide back down to being Dexter Reid again.
Of course the biggest failure with teams that go nuts in FA is that they pay the guy based on how good he was but they get Dexter Reid.

That wouldnt be an issue now, but it would be just as bad to bring him in expecting him to still be Tony Parish and find out on the field he has falled to Dexter Reid level.

I have however always felt that veteran DBs, and especially reserves who can come in in sub packages were a good fit in a BB defense because he can limit their role to what they do well, and hide their weaknesses. (See Otis Smith, Terrell Buckley, Victor Green, etc, etc).

I suppose he could help if for nothing else on special teams, because he has always been a good athlete, who plays big for a safety. I believe he has had a lot of Ints over his career too.

Claimed off waivers by the Cowboys today.

If anything, the weak link in the Cowboys' D is that FS position. Patrick Watkins is a rookie(but is getting better though), and Keith Davis is just average(although he's a great ST player).

I am very happy over Parrish's signing-will definitely shore up this hole.
