Do We Cheer for Buffalo or the Jets on Sunday?

When I first thought about this quesiton, my obvious answer was Buffalo, as we want to clinch the division. But then I got to thinking, I don't think the Jets are going to catch us anyway, and I would rather see them get a wild-card spot (and hence be a potential opponent) rather than Denver or Kansas City. What do you think?

First of all, clinching the division as soon as possible is Mission Number One. So, I pull for W's by the Bills and Pats.

Second, this might be famous last words, and while I respect both teams (especially since we already lost to Denver) nonetheless I am confident that we'll take either the Broncos or Chiefs in January in Foxboro.

With all that said. One simple questions.

Should not the PATs 1st goal be to win the divison.
(A simple answer please like yes, no, maybe, I don't know )

WIN the division. Yes. Who said otherwise?
That IS the PATS' 1st goal.
Next question???

As I said here, but you apparently missed, the Pats are in complete control of their AFCE Championship destiny.

The thread is about rooting for or against OTHER TEAMS.

I want the Jets in the playoffs. I want Denver sitting at home in January and the Jets making the playoffs can help that happen.

More importantly, it will make the fall that much greater. The Jets are in the middle of a surprise, out-of-nowhere season. These are invariably followed by a disappointing stomach-punch season. If the Jets make the playoffs Jets fans will be going nuts next year, not only predicting a division title but whispering "super bowl" into each other's ears. They will enter the season overflowing in hope, in part to compensate for these past fews years having none. All of a sudden other teams are preparing a little better and getting a little more psyched up to play the Jets, a playoff team. When next year's Jets finish 6-10 (after making the playoffs this year) Jets fans will be more dispirited than they were going into this season.

That is why I want the Jets to win.

Spoken like a true Jets hater. My man! (OK, I'm making a sexist assumption)
My sentiments exactly regarding devestating Jets fans' psyches.

No you are wrong
PATS GOALS: (in order of importance)
1.) Winning 2 playoff games then Superbowl
2.) Winning 3 playoff games then Superbowl
3.) Winning 2 playoff games then getting to the Superbowl
4.) Winning 3 playoff game then getting to the superbowl
5.) Winning 2 playoff games. (based on #4)
6.) Winning 1 playoff game.
7.) Homefield Advantage
8.) Winning the Division

I have it ranked as 8th on my list.

Good. "Next question???"

If PATs win and Jets lose this week do PATs win the division?
(Again a simple answer please like yes, no, maybe, I don't know )

What? No realization has hit on your 1st question regarding the PATRIOTS' priority???

As to the latest query, see the page one topic posted by Miguel. You'll get your answer.

Just shows what you know, and don't know keegs. The Pats goals in order of importance are win one game at a time, starting with Miami on Sunday. Been this way since the day BB arrived. If you were a real fan of this team you would know that. Although even real fans sometimes lose sight of it because they sometimes have agenda driven goals of their own. Some want to beat the teams they personally hate, others want to hurt their perceived enemies in other ways, some live in fear of disappointment and others just want to argue.

Since you do not know or are unwilling to state so here simply as
requested, the simple answer is YES.
here is the situation:

"The Patriots can clinch the 2006 AFC East championship and a berth in the playoffs with a victory over the Dolphins in Miami this week and a New York Jets loss to the Buffalo Bills at Giants Stadium."

That's one of the smartest things I have seen on here.

I agree with the one-game-at-a-time sentiment.

How about we keep rooting for the Patriots, and control our own destiny?

The problem I've always had with rooting for someone to lose while you still control your own destiny is that that looking back in Week 17, a loss or win by some team we may not have wanted to win/lose originally, may have helped us after all.

Once you no longer control your own destiny, then you start rooting for someone else.

Your disrespect of an improved and improving JETs team is questionable.
There are only three teams that beat the PATs so far and JETS are one!

By 3 points and coming off a bye week. No bye, they don't win that game.

Yet again you failed to either read or more sadly COMPREHEND what I wrote.

Go read the 1st post link in the earlier Miguel thread I cited for your answer.

You make a good point about having the Jets as a potential opponent, especially as a wildcard game if the Pats finish as the #3 seed. However, I doubt the Jets will make the playoffs.

True ... but they have been improving. Their Oline is better and D
is getting more pressure on QBs. Again they are not a top 5 team but
they are good enough they could win out.

Now the way the PATs have been playing can anyone say for certain that
the Fins, Jags and even the Titans are all 100% certain wins? If PATs
continue to turn the ball over and give these teams chances to win they
could lose 2 games.
That plus JETs winning out means PATs lose the division title and may
not even get in as a wild card.
I want PATs to clinch the division this weekend which means I have to hope Bills win.

I'm rooting for the Bills. The sooner the Pats wrap up the division, the better in my book. Maybe they'll treat the finale at Tennessee like the Miami finale last year, allowing them the flexibility to rest certain starters that would need it if they have a wildcard round game. Then again, maybe they won't, especially if they are fighting for a first round bye. But we won't know that until more games have been played. As of now, without the benefit of hindsight, a Jets loss is better IMO.

Regards,
Chris

I want a superbowl, I also want the pats to win by an average of 10pts these next 4 games, I dont want to sueak in the playoffs and be a one and done team. I would rather get the better draft pick

Absolutely correct. The Jets or Bills draft pick is not going to be effected greatly by one particular divisional game.

We need to make the playoffs if we can, because anything can happen. The Steelers last year were not a dominant team yet they won a superbowl when the Seahags fell apart.

I don't think we need to take a defeatist attitude right now and think we will back into the playoffs. I am hoping for some clear signs of improvement in the offense which would signal that we can compete in the playoffs.

I'm rooting that the Jets and Bills beat the snot out of each other, hopfully to the point of having nothing left to finish the season out strong. Other than that, like the Skankees, Jets losing is always good.

I guess the best scenario (for me, anyways) is for the Bills (and the Pats of course) to win this weekend, and then for the Jets to win out, while Denver and/or Kansas City or some other team we might have trouble with goes down. I would much rather face the Jets in the playoffs as I think we would beat them pretty good (revenge factor, etc.). Denver and even Kansas City (although they do now have Herm Edwards) seem like kryptonite.

The only time I rooted for the Jets in recent times is when they had to bet Oakland(the other team I will never root for either for the Pats to get a first round bye in 2001. Go Bills then.
