ESPN's Adam Schefter says that all the signs point toward the Patriots "exploring the possibility" of signing Chad Ochocinco.
The Bengals will cut Ochocinco once the transaction freeze is lifted. Schefter cites the Patriots' success with ex-Bengal Corey Dillon and Ocho's respect for coach Bill Belichick as reasons this may work. Still, it's unclear how much the Patriots will be willing to pay for 33-year-old receiver.

It looks like Chad signing with the pats is becoming more and more likely. I would support the move. Chad will feel like he has somthing to prove and will be excited at the prospect of winning a superbowl and playing on the biggest stage. I expect he would have a huge year for us. Year two and three he might start to get annoying.

Wow, everytime someone puts Chad Johnson I have no idea who they're talking about

I would be for it. Attention whore he is he has always been a hard worker and i think he would fall in line given his respect for Belichik and playing with Brady. If they sign him and Mankins plays they are set on offense and deep at all the skill positions. As risk/reward goes this is a good deal as I doubt the money would be huge and it costs nothing to acquire him.

I'd give this about a 0.000000000000000000054% chance of happening.

talk about a snub to Moss. "Sorry Randy, we're going to go in a different direction--someone younger."

I'd be game. This team has plenty of slot receivers and not enough wide receivers. I just hope he likes blocking if he ever does find his way onto the Pats. And we all know that the chances of Branch playing a full season (or even just not ending on IR) are not as good as we would like.

LOL What was the latest sign Schefter saw...when he got tossed off the bull??

Not. Gonna. Happen. Dillon wasn't an attention whore. Chad can't help himself, never could. He and Palmer couldn't get on the same page after years together in a simpler offense. There was clearly fault on both sides, but even when they were contending Chad couldn't check that ego. He's also a finger pointer and a whiner when he's not targeted. Jealousy, the need for attention, the lack of accountability...anyone who thinks that's a fit here doesn't get what here is all about. I know Bill likes him as an entertaining personality on some other shmucks roster. That's not the kind of persona he taps for his own.

What's that old saying, nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there...

One thing I know is that I be too comfortable predicting what BB might or might not do when it comes to player personnel. For everyone who does so it's almost always an exercise in futility.

Disagree completely, both Dillon and Moss had more serious baggage and he madee deals for each of them, and in this case there is no price other than salary. Dillon had serious legal issues in his past and Moss had quit on 2 teams prior to Belcihik dealing for him, both worked out in the short run and i think that's all Belichik would be looking for. Johnson isn't a dummy and he has exceptional work ethic, i think he would bust his ass to get on the same page as Brady and his respect for Belichik would keep the attention whoring in line. I think Belichik weighs the risk and reward and goes for it of the salary demands are acceptable.

It took huge balls to even get on that thing. I honestly can't believe he did it.

In Cincy it was "Palmer and OhcoCinco try to get on the same page".

In New England it will be "OchoCinco tries to get on Brady's page".

If Chad knows its the Patriot Way or the highway, it could work. I think him knowing that would be a precondition of him joining the Pats.

I think the subtle change in pretext going from Palmer to Brady could be enough to change his behavior significantly.

This isn't the 2004 Patriots that had the locker room to assimilate a questionable character. This is a bunch of young guys still learning how to be professionals and win in the NFL. Comparing this to Moss or Dillon completely misses the boat.

I would love to see this move explored further and would love to see him here if he can adapt to the Patriot's way. As an earlier poster alluded, year one would probably be fine-years two and three maybe not so much. And of course it'll depend on how much money he wants to play here and if he's okay with putting team first.

On the lighter side, I'll never forget the video of BB telling Ochocinco that they were going to double-cover him all day and 85 in the middle of the field yelling "Bill! Bill!" Pretty funny stuff. In case you missed it YouTube - Chad Ocho Cinco and Bill Belichick

I love Ocho, but I can't see it working.

Ocho can't behave himself. If BB would bench WW for a series over some foot references, Ocho is going to be in the doghouse every week.

Ocho and Branch are entirely redundant. I can't see having both of them. It wouldn't bring any new dimensions to the passing game and getting both Branch/Ocho practice snaps would stunt the growth of Tate and Price. No problem with bringing in Ocho but that should result in Branch moving out.

I have been waiting for 3-years for the Pats to sign this guy. Very excited.

He has changed his name back to Johnson btw. He is cleaning up his act in preparations for playing with the Pats.

I think it would work, it's clear that they both respect and like each other and I think that if BB asked Chad to tone it down a bit off the field, then Chad would tone it down. Both BB and Brady would be very positive about what Chad could bring to our offence and for me there's not really a huge risk involved.

SI's Peter King predicts that Chad Ochocinco will wind up playing for the Patriots in 2011.
"At the end of the day, I think he’s gonna be with the New England Patriots," King said on PFT Live. Adam Schefter made a similar suggestion in a recent ESPN.com mailbag. Ochocinco is expected to be released after the Bengals used the No. 4 overall pick on A.J. Green. He'll be an unrestricted free agent at that point, and could be another late-career value pickup for the Pats. Related: PatriotsSource: Profootballtalk on NBC Sports

IBBWT and all that and I don't even dislike the guy for being such a showboat, but does he even bother running routes? I thought the whole problem with him and Palmer was Ocho just doing what he wanted out there and Palmer got better at the end of the year when 85 wasn't playing.

Granted, BB and TB have the track record of being able to knock some sense into guys but I'm not a fan of him in this system at this point.

Yes, and the same cast of character had NE the eventual landing spot for Mike Vick as well.
