Does Patfans need an A**clown forum ?

While patsfans was down, many of us refugees were welcomed with open arms by the folks over at the Planet.

One unique feature of that board struck me as sheer genius - the "A**clown forum".

The way it works is this: When a poster on that site goes out of control or over the line (whether it is a troll from another team, or just a patriots fan who annoys the entire site), and the crime is somewhat short of an "instant banning" offense, the mods institute a poll on whether to "A**clown" the perp or not.

If the perp is found guilty (by a simple majority), the perp is not banned, but instead restricted to posting ONLY in the "A**clown" forum. It is truly "democracy in action"

It seems to me that this forum is a fantastic idea because:

- It allows you to keep around some of the trolls who, while annoying on the pats forum, are fun to play with, if you so choose.

- Provides a punishment short of banning for those folks that are perpetually making nuisances for themselves.

- Reduced workload on the mods, as the threat of "being voted off the island" will make most of the worst posters on this site think twice before hitting "Submit".

Of course, this being patsfans, we can call it something else. They don't have the same effect as the Planet name, but perhaps we could call it "Bethel's Bench", "Rodney's Timeout" or "Hoculi's Hangout". Also, it doesn't have to be forever - it can be for 7,30,60 days etc.

Actually that's a great idea. I really, really like it. So not only is it a punishment purgatory for the bad kids from this page, but it'd also be a distraction page for those 'BENVCH BRADY START CASEL!~!@#' type posters. Super!!!

This forum has been the class act of all fan forums from day one, and it still, to this day, retains its place at the top of the heap, heads and shoulders above any johnny come lately fan sites...

Don't follow the suit of others and lower this fine web site, and the best fan forum of its kind on the internet, to the level that a few instigators would like to bring it.

They are the kind that always makes trouble for people, shifts blame to others, and this web site can do without their ridiculous , personally motivated, suggestions.

If they can't take the heat, then let them stay out of the kitchen.

How would it be lowering the quality of this fine site to get rid of the posters that an entire majority (not just these instigators that you're alluding to) agree on?

Just because you've been Assclowned on that site doesn't make you a shoo-in to have the same thing happen here, though I guess I see why you're worried.

But really NEM, if it's just a small handfull of 'instigators' you're worried about, aren't you reassured that the mass of people that agree with you will even out the vote and the majority would not vote you in?

Again, how does it lower the class of the forum to remove the lower class posters? That makes no sense.

This forum is well policed, and well contained...and if there are some posts in here that you, or others dont like, dont respond to them, becuase its usually the type of responses that instigate the problems. Just dont get involved if you dont like it, plain and simple.

Every word you write drips of the fear you have for a policy being set in motion that might remove you. And I'm sure that the person that posted this Assclown idea didn't even have you directly in mind. Why are you so personally afraid of it?

When yo initiate aa forum such as is being suggested, you open the door for animosities to open up, and this forum does not need any more of that crap... You, and a few others have done enough damage already.

There are plenty of animosities already flying around, now aren't there? It seems to me that when you institute a democratic system of punishment that it'd actually decrease animosities because hot headed posters would have to actually calm down and think before they post or face the democracy's choices.

How, exactly, have I done any damage to this forum? Please explain it to me, I'd love to know. I'd also love to know if Ian agrees with this.

That's the good part about a seperate forum for the problem children. You don't have to see them unless you choose to.

Whether you choose to visit for 'fun', or choose to visit by posting things that you know you shouldn't, either way you end up there because of your own choices.

Why lower ousrselves to ridiculing, and embarrassing posters who come here to post, unless they use a high volume of obscene languege directed at another poster on a constant basis, or the use of vulgaraties which may offend one particular group or others, or completely come her for the purpose of denegrating the Pattiots in an very obscene or vile manner.

And, BTW, Iam not saying this for my own benefit, I am saying it for the benefit of this fine fan forum for which Ian has dedicated himself and which a lot of us have been with him from the beginning....

To add this kind of a forum, that is bneing suggested, lowers the overall quality of this site, and it puts us into the position of being judge and jury to people we dont even know, and embarrassing them, or ridiculing them, without just cause.

I believe that it is a type of punishment that should be left to the BAD forums, the ones that dont have any class, or understanding of what and why some people may post what they do, and it leaves the judgement into the hands of people that may have a personal agenda, or dont even know the people they are ridiculing.

When I read this type of thread, it is obvious as to why it is started in the first place, because of personal agenda, and this fine forum has no place for garbage like that, IMO.

Therle are too many people in this forum who just love to start personal attacks, and personal agendas that they must fuilfill..and that alone brings down the level that this forum has worked hard to attain...

The addition of this kind of a forum, the so called Ass Clown Forum, would drag it down even further, and make it no better than those sites that keep trying to emulate, and copy, this site, the finest on the internet.

I really wont even vote on this subject because I think it is personally motivated, and in fact, believe it is wrong for this forum to even think about it...and believe me, it is not for any personal reason...merely that this site doesnt need to lower itself to that level.

And, if anyone wants to say their piece, we have a general forum for that, and a political forum too...in which a lot is allowed to go past that wouldnt get past in this forum.

The Planet is not a bad forum. You had a bad experience there, but I have had a wonderful time posting there.
