So it appears that the Pats got a low 1st high 2nd pick in Cannon.

The OL got a major upgrade if he and Solder both meet their potential. And is suddenly very young.

Globe story this morning.

Patriots draftee Cannon calls on higher power - The Boston Globe

So now most of the team is "young" on average, with only a few key old guys left. And the only unit that is more old than young is the DL, given who the starters are likely to be. Quite a transformation.

I don't know that we should be counting on this guy to do anything for us. I hope he recovers fully for his life in general rather than football. Thoughts and prayers to him.

First Cannon needs to complete his chemo series. Then assuming he's cancer free, not a given, he can rebuild his strength. I see him starting on PUP at the very best and most likely IR for 2011. He seems like a great guy, and I wish him the very best.

Best wishes to the kid.

Hopefully he beats this (and it looks positive). Let him get healthy and not rush him onto the field.

Yeah and it appears BB spent 2 third round picks on running backs he could have gotten much later in the draft. Ya just never know...

to all of u defensive masterminds 2012 DRAFT is yours

TFB is our Franchise he has the weapons and now he also has the STEEL CONDOM Offensiveline. or should it be STEAL condom?

(we always get that player that drops b/c of concerns) it seems to be O over D for ? players. Hernandez/Gronk had ?'s I LOL especially watching aaron play at florida.

I loved this draft

Brady is ideally placed to succeed going forward is it 4 more yrs?

5 yr contract right?

I loved last yrs draft I wish I were here to view the *****ing.

2011 DRAFT will NOT dissappoint. We have everything we need. Perhaps Tate breaksout? Price is bttr than ppl give credit. Ohio was a RUN heavy O let us see what he can do. :rocker:

Well apparently he was one of the best OL in college football and at the combine while playing with cancer, so I'm eager to see how he does without it. I agree PUP is likely but he definitely seems like a kid who is going to help either later this season or next.

So we spent a 5th round draft pick on a guy who may have gone in the early rounds, a guy with a tremendous upside..

To this casual observer it is a great choice, if he contributes next year it will be a very good for this team.

If Cannon can come back healthy and strong, he's certainly much more than a typical round-5 talent. But he's far from the classic Patriots OL profile -- more Ryan O'Callaghan than Logan Mankins.

Just consider this year his red shirt year. Chemo is a helluva drug. There is no telling how much weight and muscle he will loose. I just hope he gets healthy, let alone play football.

I'll disagree on that one, if we're adding talent in the list under profile. If he comes back healthy, we won't miss Mankins after he leaves.. And Im' hoping he stays!

I disagree with that. I won't be surprised to see Cannon starting at some point this coming season.

This argument drive me crazy.

Just because Kiper and his ilk say you could get those guys later in the draft doesn't make it true. It only takes one other team who values the player like you do (e.g., if the Giants liked Ridley and picked him right after the Pats' third round pick) for you to lose a valuable player because you were hoping you could get your guy much later in the draft.

He will be finished by June 29. Plenty of time to recover before TC.

I'd really like to see this guy on the roster this year but he should take things one step at a time and just focus on getting healthy. I'm sure that is difficult with the promise of pro football in front of him like a carrot but health has got to come first. If he needs a year off, so be it.

Someone get this man some AHCC! (heh, it is supposed to help with the pain of chemo fwih)

You really don't know this. He could have an amazing recovery and be ready by TC; he could not respond well to chemo and end up being unable to ever play football again.

You underestimate the ravages of chemo. Again ASSUMING he then appears cancer free, he first needs to rest and recuperate from chemo and THEN work hard to rebuild his strength and endurance, greatly weakened, to the level required for football at an elite level. PUP at a minimum. There's a reason teams discounted his talent; they mostly figured 2011 was a gonner at the least, if he ever plays NFL football. That said, I think a 5th on him was a great pick by BB. Character guy, too.

i WAS ON IT it sucked there went my D1 LB build 215 10% BF.

he will be fine. Muscle memory is the real deal. He is getting paid to workout he will get it.:)

Ultimately, yes, I am making an educated guess. However I feel good about my assessment of where he is, based on what I've read.

The ravages of chemo on the average person, and especially on older people- yes that takes quite a bit out of you, but we are talking about a young man in great shape. We're talking about an athlete, whose diagnosis is a benign mass so the chemo treatment is most probably mild.
