Some recap from Reiss and Rapoport are available for those who don't want to download/watch the video.

Insights include no indecision on who to take at 17, the Saints trade at #28 was discussed before the draft, and trying to get a 2012 2nd with #33 before taking Dowling.

Just saw this.

Belichick and Caserio really had a difficult time making a decision at 17. I dont really feel comfortable with how long it took them to even make a suggestion of what to do with that pick.

The team seemed so confident Solder i hope it was just weighing options.

Team really had no one they wanted at 28. Quick to deal that pick.

Had tons of phone calls for 33 and looks like they were trying to dump that pick too.

Very frustrating to see.

No they were not frustrated. They had already decided on Solder long before draft day- like Rappaport writes, they were just trying to milk the time to keep the other teams off guard- maybe make them think a trade was in the works, or that they could be picking just anyone.

Also it looks to me like their draft board was ordered by position, not by needs or value. On one board, it looks like there were 11 columns on top and 11 on bottom.

The fact that they were trying to trade out of #33 is something many of us already knew on draft day #2.

We don't have a real time recording, just a few fragments, so it is impossible to say "...how long it took them to even make a suggestion of what to do with that pick."

Again, we just have a few seconds so it is impossible to say how quickly they made the deal.

Not so much trying to "dump" the pick as trying to see if they could sucker someone into paying an excessive price for it. They did not succeed, but it was certainly worth a try. When no one bit, they took a player that they felt represented very good value.

If I heard the video right, for the 33rd pick that Pats were holding out for 3rd this year and a 2nd next year. So they rejected a trade down for a 2nd and 3rd this year from the Niners. I can only surmise Vader didn't think this was a great year to collect talent. The other trades our Dark Lord made supports this notion. Although the Pats are happy with their picks, they were not happy with this draft.

wow ! talk about two people watching the same thing and seeing two completely opposite events. i watched it and saw none of that.

On the wall behind BB, there are "Retired" ("Patten") "Signed Off Practice Squad" ("Miller", "Ratliff"?) lists. Some other lists with names like Woods, Larsen, McKenzie, Leonard to the left. Looks like we're looking at past history, but I can't see much with my lousy screen or make sense of it.

Anyone who thinks BB "wings it" on draft day is smoking something.

1. They already knew who they were picking at 17.

2. They already had a deal in place for 28.

3. They had already set a value on 33 and no one matched it, so they made their pick.

I didn't watch the video, but reading the articles made me appreciate even more that the Pats are in good hands.

I did not see indecision or hesitation.. seemed as though they had a blueprint and pretty much followed it.

From the brief interviews the draftees all seemed smarter than the average, and presented themselves very well.

Beside the sixth rd yeah.

Really is difficult to see what was going on in there with those edited snippets.
I did get the feeling though that they were not really upset that thery had to pick Dowling at 33.
But thats just from limited film we see

I agree. There was no discussion about what to do. There was complete silence. Maybe there was a potential phone call they thought might come, but they seemed pretty decisive about it.

It seemed BB was really disappointed he had to pick at 33. Also what struck me was BB's tone of voice when he talked to the players by phone -- very monotone and very short, no enthusiasm at all. Strange.

I still think that they should have taken a flyer on Mark Herzlich in the 6th or 7th.

One team will pick him up a an UDFA and 31 other teams will regret not taking him. I hope that that the team that picks him up as a UDFA is the Patriots.

Yea but the thing about UDFA is that they pretty much get to pick where they want to go. Lets say Pats, colts, and jets want him. He went to BC probably grew up in NE, I think he chooses Pats there

I doubt he goes to the UFL though. Not too many players who expect to get picked up as NFL UFDA's will.

As far as the pick at 33 goes, it seems as though they wanted to swap places in the 2nd round with the potential trading team, AND get a 2012 2nd. I guess it never hurts to try

On the white board when they wrote the NO trade, the purposely blurred what was to the left of it, which appeared to be the parameters of another trade..Was it for the same pick??
