Shane Vereen Highlight Video

Nice moves and quick feet. I see a little hesitation in the hole but he is no Ron Dayne (the queen of hesitation).

He has excellent hands and catches the ball in stride. Very nice. Also seemed to run good routes or at least cleanly separate from defenders (at least in the highlights).

In spite of what the reviewers have said he has a superior top end; watch the way he runs away from DBs.

I am not sure how well he blocks or if he can avoid the big hit (something Robert Edwards could not do).

Looks like a nice pickup.

Considering Taylor was always hurt and same with Morris....I'd say if Shane can stay healthy, its a HUGE improvement at the RB position....:rocker:

I thought you were gonna say Maroney instead of Dayne. Ooops, I forgot he was the Dancing Queen. Ok. Now it makes sense. :D

JJ Arrington-Marshawn Lynch-Justin Forsett-Jahvid Best-Shane Vereen.

That is a really impressive list of running backs from Cal in recent years, except for Arrington of course.

He seems to accelerate and change direction SO FAST. In a few plays you could see him hesitate for a second, but then he was at top speed in a flash.

Seems to me that he has the speed that the RBs didn't have!

Woodhead is quick, but could never see him breaking out a massive run!

But he doesn't have teammates like Julio Jones, Marcell Dareus, and an All-American offensive line, and he wasn't given 24/7 attention during the draft. So he sucks.

Woodhead runs below 4.4 and he did have quite few long runs when he got into space last year.

5.6 ypc is pretty good for a change of pace back.

Correct, stupid draft! What a waste of a pick

Watch it again, he hits the hole very quickly. The hesitation you are refering to is only when there's no hole, or he's setting up blocks. He uses hesitation and subtle changes of speed to set up blocks and get extra yards. The kid's vison, patience, instincts, balance and body control are off the charts. He reminds me a little of Curtis Martin, who is a very similar size. I tried finding Martin's combine numbers for compaison, but so far I've had no luck.

We should temper our expectations a bit considering that he appeared to have a dominant offensive line in college. There are still some uncertainties with the Patriots line this season.

Also can he play in cold weather?

Anyway it looks like a great pick...

The big question, as with all running backs coming out of college, is the whole risk/reward decision making aspect. Players in the NFL are a lot faster than college, and backs often have to make decisions to settle for what is there rather than go for the homerun. I like this kids chances.

This was by far my favorite draft pick they made, he's definately more than a 3rd down back.
