With all of his fumbles lately there are many on this board very unhappy with him.

What should be done with him?

EDIT: Had a poll but the system wouldn't let me post it because I must have taken 5 mins and 1 sec to set it up.

Stick with him, we have no choice. I feel the same about Gabriel too.

Coat his uniform with Crazy Glue? Is that legal?

He should be cut, should have been last week.

And Brady should be cut too, to show each and every player that nobody is above good ball security. Think about it, if Brady gets the axe everyone else will be too scared to fumble.

heh, like we can exert any influence on good 'ol BB :) I'm sure he just loves to pick his team based on fan sentiment....

Maybe borrow some of the gunk that Lester Hayes and Belitnikoff used to use in Oakland ;)

I co-sign the above, with the addendum that every football that is fumbled should be drawn, quartered, and set on a pike, as a lesson to the others.

They should keep throwing the ball to him.

A lot.

Because he's one of the few Pats receivers who can consistently get open for more than a 4 yard reception.

3 fumbles in 3 games, coming after 1 fumble in 26 games, is not proof of a fumbling problem in the slightest. It could simply be random grouping. Sure, it is a potentially worrisome situation, and something to monitor over the next few games, but that's it.

Furthermore, he's a young player. He's shown great work ethic and coachability so far, and has really improved his hands this year. If he is developing a fumbling problem, there's no reason to think it can't be coached.

Coaching should help him adhust where he holds the ball and he should start protecting the ball with two hands.

YEsterday's fumble was unlucky. From what I saw he did everything right, had two hands on the ball but was taken down in a difficult position and had the ball knocked away by a helmet. The early fumble against the Bears was the result of a very good defensive hit, and he didn't seem to do a lot wrong there.

In spite of the massive all round improvement in Reche Caldwell's game, Benjamin Watson remains our biggest receiving threat, and I'm looking forward to him having a massive game against Miami next week.

The commentators yesterday mentioned that he has a sore arm, which could have something to do with his recent fumbles.

Seems to me that pass catching TEs that are on teams with established #1 and #2 WRs benefit from having the defense key on other threats-

take a team like Dallas for example - where even with Drew Bledsoe taking the snaps for the majority of the season you've got TO and Glenn hauling in 70 and 50 passes thus far.

That keeps a lot of defensive pressure off of Witten.

In New England's passing game, who is keeping the pressure off of Watson?

Caldwell. Who else? Faulk's caught a lot of passes but that's for short yardage.

If I'm a DC I'm going to have a few guys keying on Watson at all times. I know the vast majority of the mid to deep balls are going to him and Caldwell.

In the best case scenario Watson's prevented from adding a lot of yards after the carry - in the worst case scenario Watson's got a few guys keying on him to make a bone rattling hit as soon as the ball touches his hands.

I give Watson a lot of credit for carrying so much of this offense this year. He's exceeding most everyone's predictions from the pre-season around here.

Picking up another legitimate WR in the offseason, or having Gabriel or Jackson come around would make a big difference in how DC's approach a game against the Patriots.

Well seeing that our boy child offensive coordinator was a wide receiver at a SMALL TIME school should be good enough so that he can pass on his vast experience to Watson. Right? Who, BTW,. got his first coaching experience helping with defensive backs....WOW, what a resume he must have had for BB to name him OC at age 27. :D

Yeah, and we know that BB is an idiot who's easily impressed, so it's obvious how he got the job.

a lesson to other footballs?

All of the above.

Make him hit the jugs machine.
Make him put stickum on his gloves.
Make him do ball security drills.
Try to coach more awareness into him.
Whatever it takes just keep him involved with the offense.
Because the Pats need him.

Other than that I'm not sure what more you can do but if you have an idea feel free to add on to the list.

let Maroney teach him how to hold the ball..like he thought Faulk!

Why, he only fumbled ONCE. And that had some extraordinary circumstances behind it.
Jeez, man, read . . . slowly . . . and understand :

I said STICK WITH HIM. And that I FEEL THE SAME ABOUT GABRIEL.

So, tell me, how DID he get the job? EXACTLY, what were his qualifications?
I guess his only qualification was impressing a future NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach. Probably in meetings, and out of them, they talked about offensive football, ideas, what they like and don't like, and Belichick liked what he heard.

How have your conversations with McDaniels and Belichick gone, NEM ?
