Painfully terrible TV coverage

I'm going to print this thread up and show it to my wife. Maybe now she'll understand why I was losing my mind more than normal yesterday. :D

Man, those guys were awful.

it was so bad yesturday
, **** fox

I don't care if it's a matchup between two 15-0 teams or two 0-15 ones; all crews should know what they're talking about. Is it really that hard to find two guys who can call a decent game?

Their 'analysis' of the Pats two-pt conversion was absolutely comical. It took ten seconds to look at the scoreboard, add "1" and ask what the difference would be, then do the same with '2' and figure out that there was absolutely no point in kicking there.

Yet, these two dimwits immediately said "it's too early to go for two" as if the clock is more important than the score in making that decision.

They were atrocious. I literally think half of this board knows more about football than either of them, let alone about the teams specifically.

I had just finished explaining to my wife why going for two was the right thing to do when one of these bozos said that "it's too early."

This was after shouting at my TV screen for 2 and a half quarters, begging for someone to tell me what was wrong with Maroney.

It's not as if they had too many good things to say to get that tidbit of information in. They were giving us such insights as these: Brady is a better quarterback when he is enjoying himself out there. (Or some such.)

If all the content-free cliches had been stricken from the broadcast, the only sound we would have heard would have come from the commercials.

Apparently I'm in the minority here, but I have always thought that CBS' NFL coverage is leaps and bounds beyond Fox. I think they have better broadcast teams (which I will admit isn't saying much, but still), FAR better production (the CBS music gets me fired up every time, I love the intro music and the commercial cut-away themes), and I dont really care about HD all that much... I've always appreciated CBS... you're telling me Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker are worse than this crew? Criqui sucks, and Gannon talks too much.... but aside from that, I appreciate CBS more now than ever

I'm going to do the same for my husband. He was about ready to throw me out of the room for all my complaining about the coverage and muting I was doing! That was the worse I've ever seen!

The worst was how they were touting the BCS TV Show and ignoring the game.

Sorry, but I couldn't give two pennies about what is happening with the BCS when the Pro Game is going on. Oh, and I heard you the 1st 5 times you mentioned it. You don't have to hype it and keep coming about to it about the "SURPRISES" that are going to happen, then whine that you haven't heard any of the corporate secrets.

I agree with you. I hate the FOX broadcast. The production is awful, the announcers mostly stink, and for some reason they CONSTANTLY miss plays. They're just as bad with baseball. I can't count the number of times they come back from a break and the count's already 0-1.

And now Joe Buck gets to annoy the poop out of me in two sports. Awesome.

Now that I have been watching the games in HD all season, I refuse to go back to watching anything else. With HD, you can actually see what happens and you don't get a big mess on the screen.

Also, I think you have it confused. Most people are saying the LIKE the CBS productions better than NFL Network and better than FOX. I was appauled at how BAD the FOX broadcast was yesterday.

Oh man was it bad, I feel like I know less about football from having listened to them for 3 hours. Anyone know if Gil and Gino's broadcast is synched up with the TV broadcast (it wasn't the last time I checked)? If its still off, any idea why WBCN won't delay the radio 5 seconds to match the TV and radio up? I miss the days of hitting mute on the TV and listening to the radio!

I'm still waiting to hear an explanation the safety rule. I know that if the QB is sacked in his own end zone it's two points. I also know that had Detriot recovered the fumble in the endzone it would have been a TD. But the Pats recovered that fumble so why was it a safety? Wouldn't it be nice to to have an explanation?

I can't believe I'm about to write this but at least Madden would have given an explanation even if was only, "and then he zigges and then he zagged and boom, a safety."

I actually think Greg Gumble and Dan Diedorf are probably the best crew out there. I think Aikman might be the best color comentator though (I would give him best team, but I hate Joe Buck). There are things I like about both telecasts, but I can't stand that the CBS broadcast takes forever to go through the other scores. They play to the fantasy fans too much and takes too much time giving stats. It can take ten minutes until you see a score you want.

Contrast, Fox does give regular updates on scores, but they have too much going on with their graphics. Fox seems to do too many promos for their primetime lineup than CBS. I guess that is the difference between the number four network and the number one one. Neither are as bad as their shameless product advertising tie-ins as NBC.

If anyone on the offense is downed in their own endzone that is a safety, regardless of whether it was the quarterback or not. The fumble is irrelevent since the Patriots recovered.

There's nothing special about the QB getting sacked in his own endzone, if any player goes down in their own endzone it's a safety, or even if the ball is fumbled and goes out of bounds in the endzone without being recovered (remember in the Indy game a few years ago when Hunter kicked the ball back out of his own endzone after a botched snap to avoid giving the Pats field position?) Not that it helped the Colts, but that was very sharp thining on the punter's part.

I thought the idiotic commentary "too early to go for 2" was (unintentionally) hilarious. Funnier than some of the OC suggestions posted here.

Speaking of CBS, I TRIED to watch the Phins game but after seeing a game in HD switching to a really crappy CBS standard deff fuzzy game was intolerable. Yah the game itself was booring but I wanted to scout position play for next week. Too blurry. It's not like CBS is some minor network. HD cameras are not THAT expensive these days. Cut one of the talking heads and buy a couple more HDTV cameras.

anyone know how to delay gil santos on radio to coincide with the tv action?

It's the TV feed you need to delay, not the radio broadcast. The radio feed is alrady delayed for two reasons: CBS Radio (the owner of WBCN) recently changed their policy which exempted sports broadcasts from needing to be on a "censor button" delay. They also added HD radio, which takes additional time on account of the digital signal processing.

A TiVo or any DVR works quiet nicely.

Agree 100% re the announcers forgetting about Maroney, that was bad.Re The Kazur/Light thing,I thought it was Light getting beat also,I didnt tape or tivo the game, anybody get a better look at that?I'd like to hear your thoughts...
