Why didnt' that Pats take a WR at 56 & Vereen at 60?

Why ask Why? It is what it is

Why did we draft an LT in the first round instead of a DE or OLB?
Why did we draft a QB in round 3 when Brady presumably still has 3-4 years left?
Why did we draft a CB/S at 33 instead of a DE/OLB or OG?

At some point BB may ask himself one of theese questions as well. I know many of you consider it blasphemy to 2nd guess BB, but I'm sure he's 2nd guessed himself on occasion, so why can't I?

Why not? Especially if they were GRADED HIGHER on BB's draft board.

Tate Branch Price

:bricks:

This BEAUTY SOZE was in the chat room telling me and a few others how Ponder is better than Brady. He insisted he new more than our HOF coach. Was he High or is this just him???

I suspect the latter:eek:

we have a ground game a potential 2 Faulk types (Woody, New Guy) and we have 2 extremely talented TE's in Gronk and Hernandez. Why do you want to waste a pick on a WR when we have emaculate weapons???

you knock Branch, Tate, Price...

Branch/TFB have chemistry you cannot coach that....

Tate. Another year under his belt.... does every 1 expect him to be like Randy Moss?

Price... I see good hings.

Add Welker/Edelman... Where r we lacking?

I will not give up on Tate. Fell from 1st round b/c of injury.

Soze you r very pessimistic and you think irrationally. :bricks::bricks::bricks:

I don't expect Tate to be the next Moss, but all I heard about this guy is that he would of been a 1st round pick if it wasn't for the injury/and he was better then Nicks at UNC. So I'm expecting, (or was) a lot.

Branch can't say healthy.

Welker is OK, Edelman didn't produce, not sure why he can't play together with Welker.

Price I'm optimistic, but I don't see him as a #1 WR. and before I hear the same old tired argument that we didn't win anything with Randy, and we did better with a bunch of #2's. Well we never had a stud TE like Gronk when we won all those SB's, we had Wiggins, and Fauria. So should we have not drafted him?

Price hasnt made it into a uniform yet.
Tate's production is mirroring Bethel Johnson.
Edelman took a big step back in his sophomore season.
Branch is injury prone.
Welker worked best with Moss clearing zones, we dont have anyone else that can do that for him so his production will continue to fall.

I suspect a FA to be added, wouldnt be surprised if Moss or the soon to be released Ochocinco.

I'm down on Tate, but he's not that bad. He's a decent backup WR IMO.

Tate had twice as many yards last season as Bethel Johnson ever had in a season. Why would Welker see his production continue to fall when Moss has been gone for 12 games?

Well Welker's #'s were down last year, I'm not sure Moss impacted that as much as coming back from an injury and there were a lot more options this year.

If the reports are true the Pats wanted to take Greg Little (who I think will be a stud) or Torrey Smith with the 60th pick. With Clevland and Baltimore both picking in front of them it didn't make any sense to go RB first. Both Teams needed a WR, I've seen many Mocks with the Browns picking AJ Green or Julio Jones with the 6th pick, I've also seen a few mock drafts with Baltimore taking Torrey Smith in the first round.

I would of been much more excited with Greg Little @ 56 instead of trading down and picking up Ridley, or Mallett

They knew that the VERY NEXT team was taking a RB and they didn't want to lose their guy. Vereen is a versatile 4 down back who is a perfect fit for our offense. Not only is he like another WR on the field, his pass protection is STRONG. That will keep Brady upright. And when Brady's your best weapon that is the name of the game. If Little or Smith last to 60 the Pats might have taken one of them but they didn't.

LOL at Ponder being better than Brady. Forget that. Ponder is probably not even better than Ryan Mallett. ^_^

Is Little really an upgrade over Tate?

I mean they're both UNC receivers who didn't play much receiver. Tate was an STer while Little was a high school LB who played RB and WR. Both were pretty raw in terms of route running. They both ran about the same at the combine (4.52 vs. 4.53). Little's bigger, but also has attitude concerns/diva behaviour.

Tate is developing slowly, working his way back from that knee injury, but the routes are getting better. Little could be a great WR one day, but he isn't one right now. I just don't see how he's an upgrade to what we have. If anything, he's a bigger, slower version of Taylor Price, but with attitude issues.

IIRC, Tate didn't run anywhere prior to the 2009 draft as he was recovering from ACL repair. Price, OTOH, ran a 4.40/40 with a 1.50 10-yd split.

Tate produced more in 2010 than Bethel Johnson and Chad Jackson did in their entire careers put together. In his rookie season. After two seasons out of football with a knee injury.

Probably time to put that lame comparison to rest.

Why didnt' that Pats take a WR at 56 & Vereen at 60?

Because the drafted Price and Tate the last 2 years, and the chance that a mid 2nd rounder was going to be better than two 2nd round talents with a year of experience is remote.

Again, young players, especially those outside the first time, need to be given time to develope. The vast majority of NFL players weren't very good as rookies.

Why would the patriots want to draft another developmnetal wide receiver and cut one of the three that they have?

Almost everyone had Leshoure rated higher then Vereen.

By everyone, you mean the NFL scouting service, a service which none of the teams between 56 and 60 actually use, right?

Every team studies mock drafts from people that they respect (Yes even the Pats).

But in the end it only takes one team to take your guy, but teams absolutley use mocks and the opinions of other scouts and peeps who have connections, to try to gain a consensus of what will happen.

Of course they look at Mocks.

But they absolutely do not make their picks based on what other teams think. The Patriots pick the guy THEY think is going to be the best. Whether or not the NFL Scouting service thinks the guy has a 6th round grade, or a first.

The pundits say the Patriots could have waited a round to pick Vereen, but if the Pats think hes the best back on the board, its more important to get him than to try and save yourself 100 points of pick value and risk getting a worse back.

Whoops. That number was on a draft report page, but you're right on, not sure where that came from.

This whole argument is pointless because there's no way to possibly know the infinite amount of scenarios that could've played out. Vereen could've been gone in 1, 2, 3, 4, X picks before the Patriots were up again. People bash Belichick at times because he trades down, but when he stays and gets a player he wants, it's bad all of sudden. Make up your mind already.

Tate was the 3rd or 4th option on nearly every play. That's why he didn't get a lot of balls thrown his way and didn't have particularly good stats. Now, do I think Tate is the next Reggie Wayne? Probably not. But he can certainly become a solid starting WR.
