Obviously BB expects that there will be a 2012 draft, or he would never have made the trades he did.

But, near the end of tonight's draft coverage, he appeared on NFLN and talked about the OAK trade (2012 2 for 92 and 129). It was very unusual, even by his standards, as it is very rare to make a trade like that well ahead of your pick. BB's reasoning for it was that [paraphrasing] they didn't see anyone on the board this year in rounds 3 or 4 to dissuade them from taking the 2012 2.

he'll trade those picks for 2013, and we'll hear the same value drivel. Cant wait.

Unless BB is psychic I don't see this as a logical reason. We don't know who will enter next years draft and we don't even know what rules will be in place next year. 2012 doesn't even have a strong senoir class because so many underclassmen declared this year. So to bank on underclassmen declaring next year when we have no idea what could happen with the current labor situation is silly. This team has holes now that need to be filled and if we don't make a splash in FA, I think this offseason was a waste. I don't understand how he couldn't see value in this draft when everyone else seems to be able to pick players.

This draft is weak and Al Davis is an idiot.

Situation Normal.

If he does, he'll trade it into the first round. You're bizarre for complaining about a 3rd and 4th being turned into a 1st rounder 2 years from now.

and all these players everyone else is picking bottom third and 4th are going to be starters?

bb has said that he doesn't see the point in picking players to just fill a position --- he drafts players he wants on the team, otherwise he say you just end up redrafting the position to find a better guy the following year.

I'd assume he saw the remaining draft board as not particularly exciting players that couldn't be beaten out by a 2nd rounder next year, and he'll probably be proven right.

Agreed. Call me a homer, I'm fine with that. I'm more than happy to give the benefit of the doubt to the coach with the 14-2 record last year.

Bingo.... We have bingo !

This draft is the weakest in years.
I hope we trade both 5th round picks away too.

It's almost as if he traded a 2011 2nd for a 2012 2nd. Not quite so dire, but it had that feel.

Of course, the last time he did something like that, he traded a late 1st for "little more than" a 1st that became the 7th pick overall, which turned into Mayo + (a bust). :)

What he said was that he felt a pick at this point is less valuable than a Rd 2 pick and that they already had chosen three players in this round.

I don't think this is a weak draft, just like any other draft some positions are better than others.

(It's) bizarre complaining about a 3rd and 4th being turned into a 1st rounder 2 years from now.

Concern heard most often: "Brady won't be around forever. Hell, at this rate, many of us won't be around."

Pats have few UFAs. Apparently, BB does not think he can draft anyone who would compete with a player he has control of. I trust him.

I plan on being around in 2 years.

2010 was incredibly deep, this draft is much shallower. I think everybody knew that going in -- and the Pats did draft 5 players yesterday!

It seems to me that the real issue here isn't what they did in rounds 3 & 4 at all. If they had maneuvered for one of Wilkerson or Heyward or Sheard everybody would be cool with what came after.

BB is playing chess while others are playing checkers.
I ran a regression analysis on the trend curve of his draft trading. It's obvious that there's someone he really wants in the 2016 draft and he's on track to own all the picks.

No he is not.
Riddle me this? How old is Tom Brady? The average maturity for a Draft pick is 3 years. Add that to the fact that up and down the Draft there is a 17% chance of success of a top tier player or quality starter. TB Will be 37 years old when the dudes that we Draft in 2012 mature. And then, I will bet you anything you want that he trades one of these or both next year for 2013 anyway. When does the crap start?

I will say this. I stated that this Draft was a crappy one from what I read. It speaks volumes that BB bailed even before round three was over....yikes.

Casserley who is smarter than you or I, emphatically stated that this was one of the worst he ever saw.

All you Free Agent haters, buckle up for this year when it gets going. It is imperative he adds pieces that he either wiffed on or passed in this Draft.

I don't care what draft it is. A 1st rounder is ALWAYS more valuable than a 3rd. It's crazy to say what he said. If you could do the same exact thing each and every year, you would.

You are abolutely right. It would have been great if we could have picked up 4 or 5 guys in the first 3 rounds. :bricks:
