Becoming a turnstile in this game?

I agree, he is a superb LT when #82 is lined up beside him. Another reason to sign Graham to a long term contract.

Light is getting owned today, they definitely need a te on that side

Like I said in the draft forum ... our 1st pick will be a LT...Light has been a great player....but he is nowhere near what he used to be due to injuries.

there is a growing concensus on light's poor play. chances are he has not fully recovered from last season. he needs to start playing better tho

He had a bad first half, but a pretty good second half.

"Full huddle
Following the strip sack of Tom Brady for a safety, the entire Patriots offense huddled on the sideline, with offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia in the middle of the mix. Scarnecchia was seemingly addressing the numerous breakdowns in pass protection.

On the play in which Brady was sacked, FB Heath Evans couldn't hold his block against S Kenoy Kennedy."

The entire Oline was owned today. We were lucky Brady didn't get killed. His ability to slide bought us couple of crucial completions. And I think while field turf is fast and provides better footing, it's tougher on your QB's back when he's getting planted regularly.

We need to put Light where he has always belonged, at right tackle. Time to get a stud left tackle with actual talent, not just strength.

I don't really care what his contract says or who else is on the Line. We are under the salary cap by far more than we should be (to field a competitive offense), and we are watching Brady get killed year after year after year.

Brady makes all these guys on offense look good, only lately Brady is losing the ability to perform miracles. Time for better protection and better WRs and more running plays when he is getting killed.

Stats don't tell the story of Brady's protection. He gets rid of the ball and makes his guys look good, yet Brady gets flattened routinely. That is why he is injuried by the end of many seasons. He was in bad shape in 2002, 2003, 2005.

When do we protect the guy we depend on?

Matt Light has been hot and cold for us his entire career here......at times he is incredible.....others he has his head up his *****....he just doesn't seem to be one of those steady consistent OL players.....

Where exactly are we going to get a stud left tackle? Name the last stud left tackle to come out of the draft. There hasn't been one since probably Orlando Pace and Walter Jones. Finding a great LT is the hardest thing to do in the NFL. Light is an above average left tackle. There are at least half the teams in the NFL who would trade their left tackle for Matt Light right now.

He struggled today and corrected himself later in the game. I thought Kazcur had a worse game.

Also, I thought the o-line in general had problems picking up the blocks. There were a few times where Mankins and Light were tacking on three rushers and Koppen and Neal blocked no one. That blame goes to Koppen because it is the center's responsibility to make blocking adjustments at the line. He didn't pick them up.

Just wait til next week and we see Light get torched all day by Jason Taylor. I hope they give Light help with a TE

I agree with you 100%. The Matt Light experiment at LT needs to end.

There has been a lot of left tackles this year who have gotten torched by Jason Taylor. I don't know if that is a judge of a bad left tackle. Including today, the guy has 11 sacks.

Again, where will we find a stud left tackle? Name the last great left tackle drafted. Below is a link to all the tackles taken in the draft. Tell me all the guys you would rather have than Light taken in the last three or four years. I bet you can't find more than a handful. It is very hard to find a marginal starting left tackle in the draft nevermind one who is good. And i don't think there will be any in free agency because any good left tackle gets paid or franchised because they are so hard to find.

Light is far from the best left tackle in the league, but he is also far from the worst. I have real doubts we can find anyone better than Light. He is an above average left tackle, but not much more. It is hard to find even a decent left tackle. Ask Miami, the Jets, and Buffalo about that. They all have been looking for their left tackle for years.

By the way, the only top tier left tackle that was drafted in the last four years in my mind is Levi Jones.

Chargers got Neil with the 50th pick and he would eat Light's lunch.

Look, we can draft a better left tackle than Light. We don't need a Pro Bowler, just a consistent player against different styles of defense.

Light would make a good right tackle and would give us a lot of depth that we end up needing each season on the O-Line.

So we have two left tackles in the last four years who are better than Light. Looking quickly, I see maybe two or three more over that time period. The odds of finding a better left tackle next offseason than Matt Light are remote. And we have more pressing needs than left tackle.

I'm not Light's biggest fan. But I look at other teams especially in our division who look year after year to find a left tackle remotely as good as Light, and I appreciate him. How many left tackles has Miami and Buffalo gone through in the last three years? Both have taken guys to be their starting left tackles who have failed. Both have gone through a couple of guys a year at the position in recent years. I guarantee that Miami would trade almost anyone on their o-line for Matt Light.

I think Light is a more than adequet left tackle in a league where even above average left tackles are hard to find. I just think people don't realize that what we have in Light isn't all that bad at all. I think if we spend a high draft pick on another tackle, we risk having him sit on the bench where we have much more pressing needs.

He had a bad first half, but a pretty good second half.

On an island he is a little scary, but he was very productive in a couple of Dillion's rushing TDs. He and Graham and very powerful inside the 10.

As a group the O line has to improve its consistency. On the safety Detroit only rushed 5, it looked like the were bringing the house but I re-watched it and even with 7 blockers their was pressure from every direction.

I like Light and hope he can turn it up a notch but long term I wonder if they would consider moving Mankins to tackle, he was a LT in college. I see other areas as much higher priorities in the offseason, I am ok with our current set of lineman.

I don't think they need a stud left tackle. The colts don't have one. Maybe it's just the playcalling ro formations that take a while to develop rather than quick slants.

Of the pats remaining games..... which match up would be a good measure or benchmark for how matt light is performing?

I love how a few amateur analysts growsing at each other on the internet become a consensus.
