If we make this ONE pick today, I'll be pretty happy about the draft.

Anyone else got him on their board?

Agree. This guy or Brandon Harris my top two defenders for this pick.

Nice. If they trade away #33 (and you just know it in your gut, right?) I'll be pacing until Sheard comes off the board.

The good news is that virtually every OLB that fits into the 3-4 that the Pats could have drafted yesterday is available today. I wouldn't mind Sheard, but would be happy if they ended up with Reed, Carter, or Houston.

Houston is the only other one I've done any homework on (I'm so ashamed...), but I could live w/ that pick too.

I'll be thrilled with the Sheard pick, but won't be surprised or disappointed if we trade down instead and Sheard could be picked before we make a selection. There are still a number of players that could be grouped with Sheard in terms of value, and I'm happy to just have one of them.

Yes yes and yes

We play so much out the sub these days that I don't always buy into this prototypical size olb but I thiink this guy has that covered anyway and could set the edge if he as to.

Big enough pushes up front and we can get him into the back field, hopefully with Cunningham alongside him.

I'd like 2 of Sheard, Carter, Houston, maybe Romeus at the end of the 3rd.

A RB like Leshore too?

Use the first third on a guard/center type.

Houston failed the combine drug test. Any player that can't stay clean, when they KNOW they will be drug tested, is somebody I'd be very.......no heck, I wouldn't take him.

I could be thrilled with Brooks Reed, or Sheard, or even Bowers (!) as a guy who certainly has some motivation to prove he's a top guy (if our docs are OK with it).

If we got Bowers I'd go Houston late 2, and a RB or guard.

With the Patriots accumulating so many picks for today, they're one of the few teams that can take Bowers and say, it was a flyer.

Excellent post! True!

Agreed. As much as I love bud, I think I'd find a way to quit before the NFL combine.

I like Sheard or Bowers at #33. Bowers should get over the knee eventually, and he could help us out big time in sub packages.

We definitely need to pick up someone who can get to the passer in the second round, or at least a big body DE to absorb the run. Anyone left in the latter category? Heyward was my favorite, but he's gone now.

I also think Greg Romeus as a 3rd round pick would be a great choice. He was a beast before injury.

Although Houston is hooked on herbius weedius to do it before the Draft, we did take another idiot like that in Tate.
I like your thinking

Bowers is kind of unrateable at this point. The fact that he's available must mean his knee is awful...but if there's a chance he can play, he's easily the best option.

Otherwise, I'll double up on the Pitt Panthers Sheard and Romeus.

I guess it's official: I'm the lone person on the board that thinks that Sheard has roughly the same chance of succeeding as a Patriots OLB as I do of getting struck by lightning while holding a winning lottery ticket.

The man is unable to move along any axis that is not N-S. A pure straight-ahead guy, but without the explosiveness to use him as even a 3rd down pin-you-ears-back-and-go pass rusher. Just a wasted pick. If he's our choice in the second, I'll try my best to contain my vomit within the confines of my mouth.

Of course, I don't presume to be smarter than the Man making the decision, so I'll get over it and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.
