OT: Is Mike Ditka running the Falcons?

That's definately a sick price for Jones.

White's tweets are hilarious.

They think they have a small window as a title contender and are trying to take advantage of it. I don't see how Jones is their missing piece based on their defensive shortcomings but they obviously feel he is.

Not sure why they'd feel their window is small with a promising Matt Ryan only going in to his 4th season. I think the addition of Jones makes their offense scary good. They may have given up too much to move up and take him but they obviously feel that they don't have huge needs elsewhere

I would guess that with Gonzalez, Abraham, and Turner all probably nearing the end of their time as productive players they feel they will need to take a step back in 2 years or so and to take their shot now.

I don't know if this is a positive or negative, but Julio Jones already had his own commercials (for shoes? can't remember) during the draft. So, it looks like some other parties have him pegged to be good too.

I think it's worth thinking about the deal like this: effectively, the Falcons are saying that Julio Jones will have more impact than the all of the players they would have selected at those spots. In other words, they think he will do better than next year's 1st, this year's 2nd and two 4th rounders.

The news down here is that the Falcons had a deal in place with the Bungels to take hometonw guy A.J. Green (who is far better than Jones) and it fell through at the last minute. It is hard to believe that a BB guy made that trade! I think a move for A.J. Green would have been great for the Falcons (who still have trouble selling out), but their defense got shredded last year by Green Bay and I guess they feel like they have a better chance getting into a track meet with the Saints and the Packers, than trying to stop them. Hopefully Jones has two monster days next year, both of them against the Saints.

GB torched their defense so it's not like they don't have other needs. They could have waited for free agency to start and picked up Larry Fitzgerald for less than that ransom and still had picks this year to fill in the blanks. Plus Fitzgerald is proven. Jones better have a career somewhere between Torry Holt and Jerry Rice for that price.

Crazy deal.

Can't fathom the reasoning other than its their attempt at swinging for the fence.

I can't believe how bold this trade was, especially since that Defense seems to be on the absolute brink of collapse. Putrid run D (4.6 YPA allowed), limited pass rush (31 sacks, 32 year old Abraham with almost half of them). And they've likely just go set WAY back. Just crazy bold by Atlanta.

Atlanta probably now has the best WR tandem since Holt and Bruce 99-03 or Harrison and Wayne 04-06, and the dome to use it. But do they have the QB to make it worth it? Everyone seems to love Ryan, but he hasn't won a post-season game or shown that he could be the every year MVP type player to justify this.

Has a trade like this ever worked out for the team that gives up the world? The closest examples I can think of are the Ricky Williams and Hershel Walker trades, and they were both disasters for the teams that got them.
