I like the Solder pick and I understand why we traded 28 for NO's 2nd Rd pick at 56 plus a first next year but it was disappointing seeing Wilkerson and Heyward go in the next two picks. I really wanted one of these two guys at 3-4 DE and I had them ranked 2 and 3 at 3-4 DE behind Dareus.

Does BB not think DE is a need with Wright, Warren, Brace, Pryor, Deadrick on the roster? Or is there a later DE we are targeting that BB sees similar talent but better value in?

The only guys I see as fits in our scheme that could be drafted tommorrow are Jarvis Jenkins and Terrell McClain. Both of these guys are good vs the run but they lack pass rush ability which is why they are Day 2 picks. I think BB ends up trying to upgrade the pass rush by taking one of Sheard/Bailey/Acho. I'd also love Romeus on Day 3 and Box's boy Klug late. I guess I will just never understand BB. I thought Wilkerson and Watkins were perfect fits. We better grab a DE, OLB, and OG tommorrow.

Thoughts?

I'm looking at Kenrick Ellis, Allen Bailey, and Jarvis Jenkins in the round 2 area.

I would've loved Wilkerson or Heyward....but they can go to our biggest rivals too so that's ok. Now we got a 2012 1st round pick that we can trade away and a 2nd round pick.

I think from a pure talent perspective, Jordan would've been a viable pick at #17, Wilkerson or Heyward would also be good value picks at #28. I think BB knows this, but what also must be considered is scheme fit. I don't think any of these players were good scheme fits for NE. The only reason I can think that is because BB didn't select them. And I am 100% confident that he is doing the right thing.

Next guy on my list is Allen Bailey. Possibly at the Saints' pick.

I love him at 56. But he'd play elephant/OLB.

The next guys at DE are Stroud, Brace, and Deaderick. Other than Watt, Heyward, and Wilkerson, I didn't see any long term starters. Well, they're gone.

Disagree. Would play DE on first and second, moving to DT on passing downs, same as at Miami. Doesn't have the lateral movement for OLB.

I'm not convinced (after what happened tonight) that BB plans on picking DE. I see him targeting G, OLB, CB, WR. Such as:
Marvin Austin
Greg Little
Brooks Reed
Ras-I Dowling
Randall Cobb
Clint Boling

Not bad although Austin probably fits better in a 4-3. Add Brandon Harris, BB says CBs like pitchers, can never have enough.

DE -- Longer guys: (Day Two) Jenkins, Ellis*, Bailey, McPhee; (Day Three/UDFA) Bair, Guy, Carter, Bryant, Graves, Kearse, Lumpkin, Taylor, Miller.
-- More NT, but they could work into the mix somehow: (Day Two) Paea, McClain, Austin*; (Day Three/UDFA) Williams, Fua, Thornton, Nield, Parker, Ogbu, Siliga, Clayton, Joseph.
* If BB thinks his off-field/maturity issues are under control.

-- BB has #33, #56, #60, #74, #92 for Day Two.
-- We'll see if NE can trade back from #33 and get a RB like Ryan Williams, a DL like Jenkins, and one of the possible OLBs like Reed, Sheard, or Bailey (who I also listed as a DE above, but he's a lot like Cunningham which makes me think OLB) in round two, leaving round three for WR and CB.
-- If they miss on Williams they may get Leshoure or Hunter at RB, or they may go WR with Cobb and go RB in the third with Hunter or Todman.

I was leaning towards Wilkerson right up until the last moment, then switched my draft game DL pick to Jenkins since Pepper won't need as much time to get him up to speed. Like Wilkerson he's already played in a 3-4 as well as a 4-3, at NT and DE. He's much better with his hands, and with some good S&C work, don't be surprised to see him putting in a stronger pass rush then he showed in college.

EDIT: Oops! I forgot Bowers, though his knee is clearly become more of an issue.

Good point on Austin but think he is best player available by far. I lost track of Harris but he should be on the list.

IF we take a Defensive End on Day 2, I think there's no question we go Allen Bailey.

The Patriots brought him in for an official visit to Foxboro and Belichick sat down with him personally on his own recruiting trip to Florida to break down film (along with Brandon Harris and a few other Miami players).

Bailey seems versatile -- he's apparently incredibly cut despite at 6-3, 278 lbs, and and has speed in the 4.7's. He was also recruited to Miami to play LB. Not saying that's how we'd use him -- I think we'd use him as a DE. But I think he could play in side at DT, or stand up if need be.

Sort of a poor man's Cameron Jordan based on the overall pre-draft reports. Also, I don't think we did too bad the last time we picked a DL from Miami ;)

If Bailey wasn't so god damn slow after the snap he would be a beast. Brooks Reed seems cool, but i am not sold on him yet, and might not be there depending which team we trade down. Any change we can pick Bowers later down the road?

IMO We are picking an OLB - Akeem Ayers or Bruce Carter in round two

Actually, the last DL NE drafted from Miami didn't work out well at all.

I highly doubt either of them are drafted by the Pats. I do not think they fit the scheme at all. They strike me as purely 4-3 OLBs.

Jermaine Cunningham was a Florida gator DE. I know that he had to convert frmo a DE to OLB, but i don't think he had much of a "SOLID" year as lots of people here proclaim it to be.

What,no love for Stephen Paea?

No one talks about him, just the type that Belichicks drafts

The guy can lift a house...can he lift up an OL and toss him like a bean bag is the question
