He allowed 5 sacks in 1400 pass attempts in 3 years. Thank God they said "n"o to Costanzo

Solder is a stud.
That's an impressive stat. I didn't know about that.

But didn't he give up two to Cal's Cameron Jordan in one game? He'll be facing a lot more guys like that, now.

No, it was to Cali's Jarred Price, who's 5.11!!

Here's a still shot of that:

Watch the clip of Quinn destroying Costanzo the whole game. These guys have bad days. Before this draft I didn't have either one as first round material. If I had to take any one of them though it would be Solder. I like him better than T. Smith. Ceiling or not.

I really don't get the way this team thinks sometimes when they're drafting, They just traded pick 28 to New Orleans, why? You got Wilkerson, Heyward, Ingram and Da'Quan FREAKIN Bowers still on the board and you feel that all of those players are no good and won't make an impact? Now when the Jets pick up one of these guys we can see how bad the patriots screwed up for the next 10 years.

Vollmer was second team All Pro this year in only his second season. If this kid pans out we'll have couple of 6'8" monster tackles for years to come.

******* disappointed....probably the worst 1st round that i could've expected.

Nate Solder at 17....****

Good to know that all of you are smarter than Belichick.

love me some solder

Soldiers problems are fixable, especially with dante working with him. Tackles are sealed for the next 6 years. We have 3 next round and 2 after that + 2 firsts as of right now in 2012 and free agency/trades haven't even started.

There are conflicting reports how Solder performed in the Senior Bowl. But I trust Todd McShay. He says Solder really impressed. Senior Bowl Buzz: Todd McShay Raves About Former Buff Nate Solder

So that's probably what sealed the deal, as it did a few picks later for Danny Watkins being picked by Philly.

Good to hear that Solder showed a bit of a nasty streak at that Senior bowl.

"On the other side of the ball, Solder continues to be dominant. The thing that's impressed me is how stong he's been at the point of attack and finishing. We knew about his size and natural feet, and he's been all those things, but he's been nasty this week and it's been good to see. There are no cheap shots, but a couple of times when he could have finished a play a little easier, he just finished the guy. He buried Purdue's Ryan Kerrigan (who has a first-round grade) on Monday, and he went on the second level to pancake Boston College LB Mark Herzlich on one play and Ohio State's Ross Homan on another."

Gotta love the idea of having that mammoth pair of bookend tackles. 6'8 Solder and 6'8 Vollmer. Two black holes waiting to engulf the defense. Nice. Look for the Pats to be bullies on offense again in 2011. ;-)

Meh....he's a project and won't be a starter on day 1. Our defense was a joke last year and we do nothing to improve it....

I'd much ratehr draft a DE/OLB in the second round, solder was an easy pick to make almost a no brainer to go offensive line, now we have 3 2s and 2 thirds and free agency is possibly around the corner? we are looking pretty right now

that joke defense went 14-2 and had a pro bowl corner, i think we are in better shape then most think u need to be careful falling in love with "those pass rushers" thats how u talk ur self into someone who doesnt deserve that slot.

Also with mankins possibly walking, light getting up there in age and also might walk, Oline was almost a no brainer pick, low risk high reward and solder will be a starter day 1 at tackle

Solder is a safe pick IMO

2 reasons why I think BB went with an OL at #1

Obviously to Protect Brady,the Franchise
AND
I think Kraft and Belichick realize there is a good chance that the new CBA will include an end to the Franchise Tag as we know it....that means Mankins walks off free to go anywhere and NE will put Solder right in that LG spot if it happens and they part ways and if Mankins stays then maybe its Light who may go.

Expect another OL to get drafted in day two....An OL for the right side would be a wise choice

I'm thinking moffit in the back end of the second.. though after doing some thinking i'm pretty sure we are drafting a line backer.. maybe BB thinks Ron brace will contribute as will stroud with wilfork and warren

That joke of a defense helped the team go 14-2. That joke of a defense is getting two of its best veteran players and leaders back from injury next season. That joke of a defense is also not why the team lost to the Jets back in January. That joke of a defense is filled with young players like Spikes, Cunningham, Brace, Deaderick, McCourty, Chung, who will all continue to get better.

The defense will be tremendously better in 2011, and the team hasn't even drafted a single defensive player. They will before Friday ends.

If Quinn fell or if the team traded up to get him that would've been awesome. I think if the team felt Amukamara could convert into a good safety, I would've loved that pick at #17. Otherwise, Solder is a fantastic pick. Need intersects value. Huge upside. Team leader. Nasty. If Scarnecchia stuck his neck out and asked for a tackle in round 1, you better believe he is going to be awesome.

I love the pic, shocked a lil at first but knew we need a light upgrade, been sayin it since 2007 that kaczur and light r soon to decline and we finally got their replacements..... i figured sherrod at 28 and had solder crossed off on my draft board bc of the few clips i saw he got crushed on youtube but the more i watch i think bill made a genius pick. So the first round went perfect except i would have loved to c jordan, wilkerson, watkins there when we were pick at 28............who is 33 guna be? todman, sheard, reed, a. williams, skrine, ijilana rudolph, kendricks are atop my board...maybe another trade down.....lata rounds i could c fusco, rackley, wrs, taiwan jones.............all the haters will be silenced for years to come....watch him vs ou on youtube, you can c his potential

Re: Solder, really?

How in the world can you pass up Bowers AND Amukumara, for this guy, he could've very easily been there in the second round.

I think you aren't putting enough stock into the importance of the position taken. While those guys may have been ranked higher, we need an starting OT right now or else Brady won't last the entire season. Besides Bowers is too small to play for the Pats and Prince wouldn't even be starting on this team.
