When was the last time there was tons of talk about a player everyone was expecting to go to New England?

I am not sure who the last draftee was,but I can probably assure you that player was NOT selected by the Pats when draft day commenced.

I hear Jordans name on ESPN,Several Final Mocks by big names and even on the Comcast Draft Special with Tom Curran....

I would say about 7 out of 10 think we are taking Cam Jordan at #17

....if you listen closely to the sound outside your home, you can almost hear the sound of Cam Jordan's name being pulled from the board by BB....He does not want to be predictable - don't you guys get it by now? :):p;):D

2 things to keep in mind:

- There's relatively little Cam Jordan talk here v. the JJ Watt talk
- BB might be doing the reverse psych-out, letting the Cam Jordan info slip so everyone thinks it won't happen, and they'll be double surprised when it does.

Ty Warren comes to mind. The majority of mocks and analysts had him going to the Pats that year.

And just when I was becoming convinced he is the best pick for the Patriots. I had thought he was 6'3 and more of a Jarvis Green DE but the talk I have been hearing the last day or two has convinced me that he can become a McGinest type hybrid, and if that is actually the case then i think he would bring more value both immediate and long term of anyone they can take in the first. I would be fine with them moving up for him if that's what it takes and i'm really hoping they end up with him with their first pick. Jordan and Cunningham on the outside could give them pair of high quality OLB/DE's that can get after the passer and hold the edge against the run.

I now have my binky, and it only took until 4 hours before the draft.

Ditto Vince Wilfolk except most of the predraft talk was about how the Pats could use him, but how unlikely it was that he would get to them.

National talk speaks louder, I can't wait for the Jest to trade ahead of NE for Cam Jordan.

Too small for 3-4 DE.

Too big for 3-4 OLB.

If we're trading up, it's not for Jordan.

Who knows? Maybe they're doing a double reverse headfake into a triple one-and-a-half toe loop?

By the time the draft starts, everyone will be so confused when they shockingly decide to pick the player that everyone speculatively has them taking.

Jordan is a prototype 3-4 end, not an OLB. Put him through an NFL weight program and he'll be around 300 lbs, with 35 inch arms.

Trade what? They don't have enough draft ammo with no second rounder and they can't trade players.

Tannenbaum will be trying to package his 2012 & 2013 picks for the move up. :D

The day before the draft, the consensus seemed to settle on Mayo.

Now Mortensen is reporting they're trying to get to 9 for Jordan. That's awesome. I really hope someone blows their wad to get Jordan so the Pats can economically get Watt.

But that was about it! No mention before! I remember most mocks had him going to NYG at 31! It was the last few days that had him going up the board, and then by the draft day, he was seen as top 15!

Here's the thing about all the Jordan to the Patriots talk:

It's ENTIRELY based on the fact that he played a 3-4, his size, and his attitude. Nowhere has Belichick or anyone else in the Patriots organization tipped their hand at having interest in Jordan, aside from doing an interview and private workout with him at the Senior Bowl. Heck, there aren't even any reports that they brought him to Gilette on an official visit.

It's the rumors that start because a guy visited Gilette -- see Tebow last year, Locker and Mallett this year -- that I believe are likely to be mere Belichick smoke screens.

Belichick has done nothing to suggest he's interested in Jordan. Heck, the rumors of the Patriots moving up have mostly suggested Quinn, Jones, or Peterson. The hype around Jordan has been focused on pick #17, and it's mostly been rationalized by media heads. And rightly so.

Combine that with the fact that Ty Warren and Mayo were both mocked to the Patriots in the days leading to the draft, and I'd say there's no reason to think the Jordan to the Patriots rumors are untrue.

I, for one, will be DAMN happy if we do trade up to 9 or 10 to take him.

Let's see. How about Wilfork, Warren and Mayo? Lots of folks had us picking McCourty at this time last year. I'm sure many had Meriweather.

There was a lot of Jerod Mayo talk in 2008. The trade-back with New Orleans was also being predicted. Even the player NO was going after (Ellis) wasn't a surprise.

There are times when logic, conventional wisdom and opportunity all come together. Not saying this is one of those times, but it is just as likely as the "it hasn't happened before so it won't happen now" perspective.

The night before the draft in 2008, numerous reports evolved that the Pats would trade down to #10 and select Jerod Mayo.

In 2009, there was wide speculation the Pats would draft Darius Butler (although they waited until the second round on draft day.)

Last year there was lots of talk about Gronkowski.
