While I'm sure this will continue to be very confusing and complicated - the bottom line is as a fan, this is good news. The offseason will finally begin. Some return to normalcy.

Clearly they aren't. All the current rules which deal with player contact and off season workout activities are up at the league's labor site.

With respect to player transactions (such as signings, trades of player contracts, terminations, tryouts, etc.), we plan to distribute to all clubs, likely tomorrow, a comprehensive set of procedures governing such transactions. This will include the timing for the commencement of the 2011 League Year, free agent signings and other customary player transactions.

Of course, all of this is pending a ruling from the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. The league asked for an expidited emergency stay ruling today, but the players asked for a delay until after they respond to the filing tomorrow...

If they decide to play under 2010 rules, he is. We won't know that until at least tomorrow. They could go any number of ways depending on whether they want to adopt some more favorable interim rules as in their last proposal, like rookie wage scale. Either way the rules they adopt will expose them to anti trust litigation. Only thing that stops that is a negotiated settlement that encompasses a CBA...

Free agency is going to be insane, teams will not be able to fill all of their needs through the draft. The free agents will have leverage in understanding what teams are desperate to fill specific needs.

I read it carefully. I see nothing that prevents teams from having discussions with Philly, and even from coming to tentative terms that cannot be finalized until the transaction period officially begins.

That would be the 8th Circuit Court. Although if you're an invenerate gambler I guess you could find someone stupid enough to enter an unenforcable agreement to draft someone for you only to watch them get stuck with your draftee if the injunction is ultimately enjoined.

The emergency stay is still pending. The 8th could rule any time between now and Monday. The briefings they have scheduled by Friday and Monday are for the purposes of hearing a full appeal of the injunction.

OK, I'm not suggesting something that outrageous. What I suggested was that a team might discuss with Philly the possbility of trading for Kolb. If Minny and Philly could agree to a trade of Kolb fo a 2012 pick or picks, then Minny wouldn't have to draft a quarterback early. The transaction could be formalized whenever transactions are allowed by the nfl, which will be Monday unless there is an 8th Circuit Court decision. Even then, it is just a matter of time before transactions are allowed. It would be important for both Philly and Minny to have this issue solved.
