Not sure where this fascination comes from.. but he is not the Proto-Type guy we are looking for at DE.. He is Mike Wright 2.0.. that's not a bad thing but he is no #93 clone..

He is represented by Tom Condon .. strike two and his size is not ideal either.. What am I missing here folks?

No offense, but that's not a very bold prediction.

Yeah, he's pretty much exactly the prototype except that he needs a year to add bulk. No other DE is ready to start immediately, but Watt has the highest ceiling of all the guys that will be ready in a year.

I remember jays52 posting about how Wright and Watt are so different, but I don't know where that post is. I'll summarize though: The only thing they have in common is the color of their skin.

not bold at all

Sure, I'll jump on the bandwagon.. I'm ot a WATT fan.. I don't think he mixes it up enough for our taste.

I don't think we get him either, I'd put my money on Cam Jordan though.

Good .. I'm glad I'm not alone.. I feel like everyone on this board has him pegged for us
I think you have to go back and reread the post i agreed with, its not a very bold prediction that Watt won't be a patriot. Besides hes my binky as far as being a realistic pick for the pats.

We have him. His name is Mike Wright.

Hmmm ok.. Would you say that majority of posters (Including yourself apparently) on Patsfans and good amount of Pundits have him being drafted to the Pats more than any other player..

Hence my Bold Prediction..

I found it!

The only thing Watt and Wright have in common is the color of their skin. Their games are 100% polar opposites. Wright's game is all leg driven power. He is a very, very powerful player for his frame with slow hands and feet. He's an undersized high effort backup.

I'm saying this with the nicest intent in the world and really not tryingbto be a jerk, but if you'd like I can teach you how to evaluate d-linemen.

Its not a bold prediction because he could be long gone by the time the pats pick at seventeen. Did you ever think of that?

JJ Watt= Bust

The Vernon Gholston of 2011 IMO

The worst nightmare I could see if NE grabs him, don't really care for the kids play.

You could say that about any prospect in this draft. I don't buy it. I think the highly hyped Von Miller and Quinn who will go much earlier are the far riskier picks.

Gholston never gave a damn. Watt is one of the top-5 highest character guys in the draft. What?

That's not a bold prediction. The team has 9 picks and there's what... over 1000 draft eligible prospects.

Here's a bold prediction...

Larry Dean, SS/LB/ST from Valdosta State will not be a Patriot.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. But still.

Anyways, watch Dean get drafted by us.

DEAD WRONG on this one Toys, Wright isn't in Watts category as far as athleticism and upside go. About the only thing they have in common is that they are both white and can play the 5 technique. (BTW- I am a big fan of Mike Wright)

I think you have been listening too closely to Andy Hart's over inflated opinion on this. (another guy media guy who makes me ashamed to be a Tufts grad....Tony Mazz being the other for those who might have been curious. ;)

Now it IS unlikely that Watt will wind up being a Patriot. He will probably be gone before the Pats pick. The agent MAY be an issue. I don't think so, but that's just an opinion. OR BB might have someone he likes better.

Im my fantasy world, when the Pats have their first pick, both Watt and Jordan will be available so we can actually see who he likes better. And then throw pillows at the screen when he picks neither.

Actually, I think Watt's length (nearly 6'5"+) may edge him a bit closer to BB's prototype DE than some of the other guys (based on the hypothesis that a guy can get heavier, but he can't get taller) and 290 lbs is probably close enough to 300 for now.

However, I think BB is looking for a DE who....
- has a a lot of tape over multiple seasons showing (with numerous examples), the ability to:
(1) cover gap assignments/hold the PoA well v. the run, frequently tying up multiple blockers
(2) shed, get pressure, make plays (including RB tackles) from several different DL positions

There may be a couple other prospects who are ahead of Watt on at least a couple of those qualifiers, if not all three. That, in combination with draft pick cost, would probably be the critical factors in Watt vs. NOT.
