A Couple Of Rumours For What They're Worth

I'm not going to go down this road again. We lost for a lot of reasons. Bottom line is the team didn't execute. Our QB and offensive line had their worst day of the season. More so our QB. We didn't apply the pressure neccesary to win the game. And oh yeah, our wr's were blanketed. So go ahead and take your pick. If you want to start at WR be my guest. Dropped pass by Crumpler=check. Bad fake handle by Chung=check. Fumble by Woodhead=check. We didn't touch Sanchez. We didn't hurry Sanchez. Take away the turnovers which are very out of character and give us a pass rush and we beat the crap out of that team every time.

Noone had any problem with the WR's when they gave the Jets the beatdown of the century a few weeks earlier. But according to you our offense can't solve the Jets. We could of went up 14-3 in that game and had them on their heels but execution was the main factor. Btw Julio Jones is an excellent pick. I just think we need to build differently. Trenches always come first imo. To each his own.

I agree. Our offensive line was pushed around and gave Brady no time --- and defensive front 7 couldnt get pressure. Same story as 2009 playoffs. WR was not the main issue.

We led the league in scoring, so offense was most certainly not the problem. I'd be very unhappy if we drafted any offense players with our first few picks.

I hope you Julio Jones fans are prepared for disappointment. I see history repeating itself - see circa 2001 draft for reference.

I was thinking that Julio Jones would be a better pro than AJ Green until I hear a short segment on the NFL channel with a guy who knows a wee bit more about WRs than I; he said that Green would be the better pro because he has better hands than Jones. The guy who voiced those opinions was Jerry Rice...

BTW one draft guide characterizes Danny Watkins as "Tough physical and nasty..." Sounds like our type of guy...

Then prepare to be disappointed.

Wow, how long are your responses when you do "go down that road?"

If you actually read my post, you will see that I'm not taking a position, rather am explaining how the situation can be viewed differently than it was being explored in earlier posts. I don't do football as a professional so to me this is all about curiosity and exploration, leaving certainty and perfection to the professionals.

LT - UFA
LG - Unhappy, probably last year
RG - Retired
Backup RB - Retiring
Both Starting WR - FA after this year.

Good luck :)

Our biggest needs are DL/OLB and OL.
You win and lose on the lines.

Wr and RB can be had later.

I'm going to get extremely excited if I see on the ticker that the Patriots have traded up. I trust BB, and I know he's going to get a star if he's willing to move up.

I for one would be very pleased with a trade up to the 10-12 area to pick Julio Jones.

As of now, we really don't have a #1 receiver on this team. Tate is obviously more of a speedy, Mike Wallace type of guy. As for Price, he seems like a #2 at best. We'll probably let go of Branch after next year, and Welker is a #2/slot guy. We've got a good group of guys on the roster now, but we still need a true #1.

Now, how often does a top WR prospect, with all that game-breaking glory, come around who ALREADY IS IN THE PATRIOTS MINDSET? That's the key right there. Jones has got the freakish size, he's got the route running, he makes the big plays. But he also blocks extremely well, and is totally in the team mindset thanks to playing at Alabama. Considering the OchoCinco's and TO's of the world, this is a RARE opportunity.

All that being said, I agree that DE is a MUCH bigger need than WR (so are OL and pass-rushing OLB, but in terms of value, I think the late 1st/2nd round is the place to pick those players). If we went DE instead, I think/hope it's Cameron Jordan, another "Patriots-ready" type of player. He has the skills and the head to be a leader on this defense.

So for me, I'm all for a trade up, and Julio Jones and Cameron Jordan are the guys I'd be targeting.

This sounds like speculative talk to me but I can see this being a real possibility. I think the team is Tennessee and the quarterback will be Mallett. Because Washington could decide to select Locker and Dalton is a possibility for Seattle.

Reportedly, Jacksonville is high on Dalton but they'll reach on him at sixteen.

Ten Thoughts on the Draft

1. There's a team in the draft that has a deal on the table -- I'm guessing New England (surprise!) -- with a team trying to come back into the first round. The deal will net the team dealing the first-rounder the following: a second-round pick in 2011 and a first-round pick in 2012. The deal, I hear, is contingent on the player the trade-up team wants still being there. Could it be Tennessee trading into the bottom of the first round, at 28, to get Jake Locker or Andy Dalton? Stay tuned.

2. New England, points out ESPNBoston's Mike Reiss, has only five draft picks in 2012. (The Patriots own their first- through fifth-rounders; the six went to Philly last year as part of a deal for linebacker Tracy White, the seven to the Chiefs for safety Jarrad Page.) That makes deals for future picks eminently logical this year, bordering on certain. The Patriots could use, say, Mike Pouncey or Cameron Jordan with their 17th pick in the first round, or leverage that pick by moving down a few spots, then deal the 28th altogether.

2011 NFL Draft week begins with uncertainty at the top - Peter King - SI.com

If it is the Titans, the name other then Locker that has come up a lot is Kaepernick.

Danny Watkins is a possibility knowing Belichick LOVES linemen whose last name begins with a 'W'

Watkins at #17 would be a huge reach,he can be found available at 33 and may go as far as 60....no reason to make him a first rounder....

Now if they want Castanzo or Carimi they may need to go 17 or 28

I think the Titans have big interest in Andy Dalton

Dalton could very well end up a better QB than Newton or Gabbert

Unless the Titans want to trade back into the round,i think they go WR first and then you should be hearing Locker's name when its the Vikings time to pick and Dalton later.

I was going to say I don't think it's likely Jones would be there at 9, but a quick look at all the mock sites I have bookmarked shows otherwise: 9 of the mocks had him at 10 to Washington, 4 had him at 6 to Cleveland; one (guy named Rang at CBS) had him to the Rams at 14; and one had him to Bengals at 4. BTW, of the 5 drafts that had Jones going before 10, 3 had Fairley available at 9.

"3. Heard a crazy rumor, but it came from a source that I trust pretty well: New England moving way up. Julio Jones and Marcel Dareus are the presumed targets. I get the sense from the way he told me that this could very well be Belichick building more value for #17, trying to send the signal that he isn't afraid to use it to move up. I wish I could make more concrete sense of it, but I'm not in The Hoodie's inner circle...which is exactly three people."

Dareus perks my interest quite a bit.
