Ron Brace Q & A

Brace: "A lot of people said I was a bust right away, but I know I'm not a bust. I know I can play. The only person stopping me was me and I can't let it happen. People jumped to conclusions. They didn't really know the whole deal. They go by what they see, but they don't know people's plans and go off a lot of negatives."

I think half the forum falls into that category.

Sounds like Ron's got a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove what he's capable of. Gotta like that attitude as long as he backs it up with the hard work. He seems to be slowly getting better.

I wonder if players read this forum.....maybe Brady saw the "Cut Brady" threads after the Cleveland game and that motivated him to an MVP season.

If Maroney had read this forum he would have commited suicide years ago.

Whenever I think of Brace, I think of Maroney !

There will always be people saying he is not a bust, but the truth is
if both were not high draft picks they would have been gone a long
time ago.

Maroney future may be in the UFL.

I have my doubts about Brace making the team in 2011.
I would not be suprised to see him traded for a late round pick in 2012.

Mistakes happen !

BB isn't the type to keep someone just because they were drafted high or paid a lot. And don't forget half the forum wanted to get rid of Brace after half his rookie season. Rookies need time to develop. You can hate all you want, but you can't deny the significant improvements made in just one year.

Asante Samuel didn't do much his first few seasons. Brady was a wasted roster spot his first year according to BB. Meriweather didn't do much for his first few seasons. Givens and Tully also blossomed later

The point is you can't give up on a kid just because he struggles in his rookie season.

As for the high pick thing, yes, we hope a 2nd-round pick to make the team and contribute, which Brace did. But the 40th overall pick is not a guaranteed Pro Bowler or something. Just look at the last 11 drafts:

2010 (40th): Koa Misi (next to nothing, too early to judge)
2009 (40th): Ron Brace (awful rookie season, starting to look up)
2008 (40th): Tracy Porter (played in only 5 games his rookie season, but has become a solid player with high upside)
2007 (40th): John Beck (WTF)
2006 (40th): Daniel Bullocks (UFL)
2005 (40th): Josh Bullocks (FA, brother of Daniel, not much)
2004 (40th): Ben Troupe (mediocre career)
2003 (40th): E.J. Henderson (role player as a rookie, starter, but went to a Pro Bowl in his 8th season)
2002 (40th): Mike Pearson (decent career until injuries hit)
2001 (40th): Ken Lucas (above-average starter in his prime)

That's basically one guy with a Pro Bowl (and only after 8 seasons) and 3 or 4 other quality guys. We got a guy who can start, who has made a major improvement, and people want to give up on him just because they said he sucked after 6 weeks. It's ridiculous.

I'm not saying Brace is going to develop into the next Seymour. But he isn't a wasted pick yet either.

I don't think that's true at all. Maroney wasn't terrible his first few years -- in fact he was pretty good for stretches of his career. But he went way downhill in the last two years.

Brace, he was awful his rookie year but was playing very well when he got hurt last year. He was clearly the second- or third-best d-lineman on the team at the time of his injury (not counting Ty Warren, who was out). He's still a player without a real position (he's not a nose in the 3-4, but he's not a natural 5-technique either) but he has a lot of positives. Very good size and strength. He stoned Phil Loadholt on that key play in the Vikings game. He's probably a more natural 4-3 lineman but there's no reason he can't be a useful player for us.

Richard Nixon voice, "I am not a bust."

I think half the forum falls into that category.

If the makers of Prozac would troll this forum for customers, they'd make a killing in the first 30 days, especially after the draft, and again after the first 2 pre-season games.

What about Marquis Hill ?

I really doubt he would have been around as long as he was (may god rest his soul) if he had not been a 2nd round pick.

Nice guy.... lousy pick.
