I forgot i started this thread. I really thought this would get more play, when i first read it it seemed he was alluding to trading up for defense.

When BB says something informative, it's because he's sure other teams are already all over it.

Bill claiming others are hungry for the Pats top picks is a tactic intended to hype the Pats' picks value. If one fool out of 31 gives him over the top value for a pick where he thinks he can get his player a few slots later, he'll trade down. Simply keeping his options open to see what develops. As I see BB, he goes into the draft with most all possibilities thought out and on the table. That way when what happens happens (e.g. Wilfork falling) he knows how he'll react rather than spending 10 or so minutes in discussion or panicky reaction.

Others see him fixedly determined to spend a high draft pick to fill the crying need for a Brady successor.

When Belichick speaks, NFL people listen. They may not believe him but they can't help themselves from wondering why he'd mention Quinn and Houston by name.

His name dropping/analysis jacks up the trade value of his first pick I'd say, so maybe it's there that we slide back a few spots. Since they likely won't be able to trade Kolb before the draft then maybe Philly at 23 will be the ideal trade partner. They want/need another stud up front and see Watt still on the board, and they have a high 4th from Wash as well as their own and 2 picks in round 5. We swap 1st's, get that high fourth and one of the Eagles 2 5ths (that gives us 2 in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and now 4th and 5th rounds!) and turn the extras into picks for next year or to move up in the 3rd and 4th when there will be some good RBs still around.

It would be a magnificent trade if BB ended up with a solid O lineman like Castonzo, Solder, Watkins, or a DL like Liuget, Wilerson, Heyward, or even OLs like Houston (there's that name!) or Ayers, all guys we might have taken at 17 anyway. The talking heads on TV would be wetting their shorts over a move liike this, especially since we'll likely move back 4-8 spots from 33 in exchange for someone's 1st next next year.

I think hes being straight forward, the pats need a Pass rusher and there are a lot of DE's and OLB's in this draft Besides BB and the Pats have their own grading system, they grade players for their system. Those players wouldn't necessarily fit someone elses

You do realize that your statement will totally confuse over half of the fanbase?

Actually, my guess is if we do trade up, we would sent 17/28 to the Redskins for 10 and 42.

Washington would take their QB with 17 and then turn 28 into a 2nd/3rd or 4th combo from one of the desperate QB teams.

Shanahan needs picks and a QB. Also, BB seems to get along very well with him, so a "fair value" deal is feasible.

It sounds like the Pats are willing to trade down as well as move up. Don't put too much into this predraft talk. BB's not going to hide the obvious, that the Pats are looking at front 7, but whether that's OLB or DE is anybody's guess. I'm gonna bet on DE. That's the Pats historic draft pattern. Get the rare 300 lb athletes first, like Seymour, Warren, Wilfork. Pick up the riskier OLB conversion projects like Cunningham, Crable later.

What in hell do you mean by that? Our pass rush sucked horribly and we suffered for it plain and simple. If i'm not mistaken then Mike Wright who missed like most of the season was our top sacker with 4.5. Really scary stuff right there. 3rd and longs seemed almost like automatic completions and we were the worst D at getting off the field.

Look at the 2 teams to make the SB...the 2 best pass rushing teams in the league and i definately feel that is the 1 key missing piece on this team to take the next step.

BB has seen problems with those two, they'll now be drafted high and he'll take the DL that drops.

Ha ha. I suppose Quinn goes way high, but not sure on Houston. I think DL is the priority, but BB doesn't manufacture players, so it's who he likes, where they fall, but the bust potential for 3-4 olb/de converts must factor in.

He means it as a team performance. Not an individual pass rusher. If your pass rush is dependent on one person, teams can scheme around that player. But, if you can get pressure up the middle, around the edge, mixed in with some zone blitzes. It will put more consistent pressure on the other team.
