Parcells, Bledsoe and Houston Antwine are up this season.

I vote NO.

I realize that he changed the direction of the franchise, but he also bailed on the team and was a distraction at the Super Bowl. He tried screwing NE out of compensation by naming himself a consultant for the Jets. There is also the Curtis Martin issue.

Futhermore, Parcells quit because he didnt want Terry Glenn. He wanted his groceries and it was rumored that Parcells wanted to select DE - Duane Clemons who was nothing special at all.

Tough Hall for Drew Bledsoe, Bill Parcells - BostonHerald.com

As I recall Parcells didn't even fly back home with the team. it seemed as though he mailed it in durign the SB as well (that's unforgiveable even if it's only perception).

Drew Bledsoe helped made the franchise competitive and was one of the centerpieces in turning the Patriots into winners.

Houston who? Was he any good?

Absolutely! Yes, it ended badly (it was partly Kraft's fault for that), but without Parcells there is no New England Patriots today. Without Parcells, this team may never have gone to a second Super Bowl nevermind won a first. He brought key Super Bowl components to the Patriots including Belichick, McGinest, Law, Bruschi, Troy Brown, Vinatieri, and Milloy. He turned this franchise from a joke to a legitimate contender.

Yes, he was an arse when he left, but Kraft stupidily decided to side with the moron Bobby Grier who nearly destroyed the franchise after Parcells left. But there is no denying that Parcells made a huge impact in turning this franchise around.

Yes.
He got the best out of both Drew & Terry.
He was right about shopping for the "groceries".
The Pats FO fiddled & diddled with Curtis.

I think Parcells wanted Tony Brackens, not Clemons. Brackens was a good, not great player who had several years with double digit sacks. He did make the Pro Bowl once. Who knows if he would have been a better or worse player playing with the Pats under Belichick's 3-4?

My vote is for Houston Antwine; then Bledsoe next year.

I think it would great if Antwine and Jon Morris went in together. However, my guess is that Bledsoe will make it in instead and Antwine will hopefully still be around five years from now when the next veteran's committee gets together for another overlooked old timer.

I appreciate very much what Parcells did but you do have to look at the whole picture - same way you would with Chuck Fairbanks. Regardless of how Kraft may have mishandled things, Parcells was not fully focused on that game against Green Bay (spending time negotiating a contract with the Jets instead) in the days leading up to the Super Bowl; that's unforgivable when it comes to entry into the Pats HoF. NFL Hall of Fame: sure; Patriots Hall of Fame: no in my opinion.

Another thing to consider is that after this vote the competition starts getting a lot tougher, as guys from the 2001-04 teams start becoming eligible. It's not only going to make it more difficult for Parcells, it's also going to make it that much more doubtful for players like Russ Francis and Julius Adams.

Yes Kraft was paritally at fault, But I'm never going to want a guy in MY HOF who was negotiating his next deal before, what was at the time, one of most important games in Patriots history.

I recognize his place in Patriots history, but I'm never going to want to reward the bad conduct to the team. Let him into the NFL HOF, but frankly, I don't think the Pats HOF is big enough for that ego

How about saying Bledsoe should be in because he threw for a lot of yards. He had a 63-60 record as starting QB for Pats (98-95 career). That's mediocre, that's not winning. Parcells was the one who drafted the backbone of the three championship teams, Bruschi, Troy Brown, Law, McGinest, Ted Johnson and Milloy (2001). 126-48 won/loss record post Bledsoe-That's winning.

I will never forgive him for throwing the SB. So no!

One of my football fantasies is that somehow Tomase and Parcells get buried in the same coffin so I only have to piss on one grave.

I think people tend to overstate/romanticize Parcell's impact on most of his turnarounds. His relationship with the media has had a lot to do with that. While a lot of the actual results had more to do with a guy he inherited on the Giants staff... And reacquired in his final season in NE. And took to NY with him before he bailed on them because he lost him to his old nemesis in NE. Bill was a decent on and off field talent evaluator most of the time and quite the personal motivator. That said, his biggest single contribution to the real as opposed to perceived (PR) turnaround here was bringing in that defensive coach he inherited when he signed on with the Giants with him during his 4th and what was to be his final season here and the impact he had on both the mindset and development of the talent and the developing mindset of the FO here going forward. These guys wanted Bill back, only it wasn't Parcell's.

Found this 2004 snipet on his departure in an article MMQB did back when Holley's book first hit the stands.

In a new book on the inner workings of the New England Patriots due out this week, author Michael Holley reports the Patriots have phone records from the New Orleans Marriott the week of their Super Bowl XXXI appearance against Green Bay linking then-coach Parcells to the New York Jets. And the book quotes staff member Bill Belichick -- then the defensive coordinator of the team, now its head coach -- as saying the Patriots were distracted heading into the game because Parcells was "talking to other teams.''

...I was stunned when I found out that Belichick gave Holley, then a Boston Globe columnist, unprecedented access to the team's scouting and coaching areas during the 2002 season, and some access beyond in the two years since. And though it's not likely that Belichick furnished Holley with the information about the phone records -- I'm almost positive it had to come from higher up in the front office -- the book reports that "dozens of itemized phone calls to Hempstead, N.Y., the administrative home of the New York Jets'' were made from Parcells' Super Bowl hotel room.

And the book quotes Belichick as saying about Parcells' alleged flirtation with the Jets: "Yeah, I'd say it was a little bit of a distraction all the way around. I can tell you first-hand, there was a lot of stuff going on prior to the game. I mean, him talking to other teams. He was trying to make up his mind about what he was going to do. Which, honestly, I felt [was] totally inappropriate. How many chances do you get to play for the Super Bowl? Tell them to get back to you in a couple of days. I'm not saying it was disrespectful to me, but it was in terms of the overall commitment to the team."

I know Bill has let bygones be bygones as far as their personal relationship is concerned. But I also think he was dead on in his assessment about how disrespectful Parcell's conduct was to the team (and therefore the organization as a whole) in what thereafter became his MO brief stindt here. Had anyone replaced Pete other than BB there probably wouldn't be much talk of turnarounds or interest in Patriots HOF inductions nowadays...

I think players are deserving of consideration based on their body of work even if didn't result in team wins or championships. Coaches and FO personnel, not so much. The Patriots record under Parcells was 34-32, 2-2. That includes the lone BB season when they were 11-5 and 2-1. Do the math.

What patfanken & Mo said.
I was furious at Parcells for walking out of that tunnel onto the SB field with that thousand yard stare distracted look. I knew we were toast. At the time I felt that Parcells had screwed us in our only chance to win a SB for ages. So glad to be wrong.

So for damage to the team in his final season and his poor W/L record per Belichick, I say NO to the Patriots HOF.

Hell no. As far as I'm concerned, his contributions to the Patriots should not be commemorated in any way. Guy's a scumbag who sabotaged his own team. FWIW, I also think he's one of the most overrated coaches in history: he's a pretty good coach who was lucky enough to have Belichick working for him.

Parcells' impact goes beyond the record. Before him, the team had 15,000 people at the home games. Jim Orthwein was looking to get the team sold most likely to St. Louis owners since that is where he is from. Parcells renewed interest in the team causing sell outs and making it attractive enough for Kraft to buy the team for a record amount at the time. I think his contribution to the team is significant.

As for how he left, it was deplorable that he was negotiating during the week of the Super Bowl. That said, I think people make too much of it in a lot of ways. I don't think that distraction was the reason why he had Vinatieri kick to Desmond Howard.

Parcells' positive impact on this team was great. We might be rooting for the St. Louis Patriots without him.

I lean more towards Mo Lewis Point.. post Giants Parcells seemed to have gotten somewhat complacent, perhaps he relied on BB too much.. but nonetheless would not vote for him..

You're crediting Parcells with things that didn't begin until Kraft bought the team in 1994. And it wasn't Parcells presence that drove that decision. Kraft began laying the foundation for that in 1985 when he bought up land adjacent to the old stadium and then outbid everyone to acquire the stadium out of bankrupcy court in 1988. That purchase included the Patriots leasing of the facility, which he used as leverage against Orthwein in 1993 when Orthwein attempted to buy Kraft out of the stadium so he could move the team. Kraft might have moved earlier to buy Kiam out but he never got the chance since one of the reasons Kiam sold out to Orthwein was he was one of Kiam's creditors to whom he owed millions...

Parcells hire peaked media and non fan interest in the team. The sell out string and jump in season ticket holders to over 40K didn't commence until 1994 and the waiting lists were still several seasons away.

LOL! Perfect!

Parcells in the Pats HOF is an insult to all Patriots fans.

In my opinion, the only organizational Hall of Fame Bill Parcells should be in belongs to the New Jersey Giants.

- The Patriots shouldn't demean themselves by rewarding a coach that went .500 over 4 seasons.

- The Super Bowl appearance is draped in controversy.

I can understand that Patriot fans want to reward him for acquiring players that were paramount in winning 3 Super Bowls, but I think the Chef should get the credit for the meal... not the guy that bought the groceries and quit cooking.
