No way the Celtics could have given the big three the minutes required to win games. Either way they are a flawed club. This year is not over, they could still put it together with a healthy center, as they have a great sixth man. If they don't win this year, it's over.

They limped in last year and looked what happened..If Shaq can be back by the second series and give some good minuets..i will have faith

It's not so much the trade which seems to have killed the Celtics mojo but the team's collective attitude. It's bizarre watching them play right now.

Good work Danny. You just eliminated one of the main advantages the Celtics had over rival teams...... size. Perkin was a big body who could take up space in the middle and come down with tough rebounds in heavy traffic. Not to mention his heavy duty screens which made life so much easier for ray allen.

The Celtics have elimated one of their top scorers from the gameplan in Ray Allen. He struggles mightily to get good looks now with those awful ghost screens from kristic, green, garnett, baby, ect. The result is less space for all the other players on the floor since the defense isn't as spread out. Coincidence that the celtics struggle to score 90 points now without Ray involved? Nope. Only Shaq's screens can remedy this problem.

And speaking of Shaq, I'm just wondering if he can play 6 minutes in a row let alone 6 physical playoff games. Danny hello! You're relying on a 38 year old with injury issues? How goofy is that? Ughhh, what a risk.

Kristic is a finesse player who is overeliant on his right hand. Thats why so many of his shots are blocked or altered at the rim. Sure, the celtics floor spacing is better with him but he only weighs 220 lbs and doesn't hold his ground in the paint.
Jeff Green is a jack of all trades and a master of none. He can't defend much and he gets pushed around on the boards. When the celtics have him post up the ball movement dies.

Glen Davis is a winner. Yeah, he makes alot of mistakes out there, he can't play defense, he misses layups, and he is beaten to the top of rebounds but the guy has come up big in countless playoff games. Tell you what, he is a much more reliable scorer in the clutch than Garnett is.

I hear everyone talking about how Garnett is as good as he was in Minnesota. Its a bunch of mularkey. His rebounding range isn't what it used to be and his lateral movement is about 2 steps slower. Offensively, he is just a jumpshooter now. No more spinning into the paint to shoot short jumpers..... its all set shots and fadeaways now for him. Oh, and he rarely scores in the clutch.

My idea for endgame situations. Involve Pierce and Ray Allen in more screen fade action with Allen setting a pick for Pierce. This worked well in the Atlanta game. Double screens for Rondo with Green/Baby and Garnett but use Garnett only as a decoy. I'm fine with Baby shooting a 15 footer off a kickout in the clutch. I have full confidence in him.

Regarding their attitude. How about some more real toughness instead of this fake get in the other guys face junk and draw technicals. Box out a big guy, grab a traffic rebound, make crisp passes, defend a screen/roll, make a clutch shot, ect. Thats what truly intimidates other teams.

Maybe I'm not understanding your point, but the Big 3 (Allen, Pierce, and Garnett) all had good games yesterday. It was your bench not showing up and the complete lack of anything tangible at the center position to stop the likes of LeBron and D-Wade that cost the Celtics the game.

Even though I've been in so many heated arguments around here regarding the Heat and the Celtics, I'm not going to rub it in. In the end, it's only one win over a team that had three over the Heat before. Instead, I'll just say good luck the rest of the way and, hopefully, our two teams meet up in the playoffs.

Danny Ainge probably learned a lot about his team in the last few months.

He's learned Kevin Garnett is not a tough defensive player, only a skilled one. There is a difference. He's learned that the Celtics offense - and Rondo's effectiveness - is predicated on the transition game, which itself is predicated on stops. Which is something that they cannot get consistently without Perk or Shaq. (Don't let PPG stats fool you - our defense is not nearly as good. We're using up the full 24 on the shot clock each possession these days, so games are bound to be more low scoring).

And hopefully he's learned that the "need" he felt so obliged to fill in acquiring Jeff Green - that is, a backup wing - is not something that needed to be filled. Doc plays guys out of position all the time and has won a championship and come 120 seconds from another championship doing it. Why Ainge felt he had to go acquire a prototype long backup 3 - knowing full well Doc wasn't going to play him at that spot - is beyond me.

Unless Shaq comes back, this team has absolutely no chance to beat the Heat or the Bulls.

Most people in the league dont think Garnett is truly a tough guy. One telling sequence in last years ECF against the Magic pitted KG against Dwight Howard since Perkins was in foul trouble. KG looked intimidated in this confrontation and Howard easily scored. The Celtics rarely run so its hard to say their predicated on the transition game. Though that is how Ray Allen will have to score points from here on out.

Totally agree with you on Jeff Green. Decent player at the 3 spot, below average when asked to play the 4. Oh and Danny, the 5 minutes that your backup SF is asked to play usually wont make the difference in ball games. What is it with this argument that they needed rest for Pierce and Ray Allen? Ray plays 35-38 minutes most of the time now so whats changed? Pierce plays like a minute or 2 less now. Does that really make the difference? I say no.

Agree with you on shaq.

I think Shaq will come back around the time the playoffs start (or, at the latest, in the second round). When he plays, he pays huge dividends for the Celtics defensively. The question will be how long can he play without getting injured and, also, is he in basketball shape? Shaq is knocking on 40's door right now and is carrying close to 400 lbs. of weight with him up and down the court. Also, if Rondo can come back to form and improve his jump shot, he will help Boston's sputtering offense. Throughout this rough stretch, people keep pointing at that horrible trade and Boston's lack of size at center. Very few people are also acknowledging Rondo's bad play of late. Without his play in the third game, this series would probably be tied. He swung the balance of power toward the C's in the first three match-ups. Yesterday he was invisible much of the time.
