Remember back in 2002 when the media was calling him the next Montana? If you don't feel bad for the guy then you have no compassion.

Chad Pennington’s run of awful luck continues.

He’s been rehabbing his surgically-repaired shoulder with hopes of making another NFL comeback. That plan will be put on hold after he tore his ACL playing pickup basketball, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Pennington will undergo surgery on April 7. It’s hard to imagine him coming back from this latest injury in addition to the shoulder issues, but we’ve counted him out too quickly before.

SI’s Peter King believed Pennington may have wound up finding a starting job in 2011 because he could step in to a new system without much practice and be ready to go. Unfortunately, that won’t happen now.

Edit: Misspelled his name in the title. Hate when that happens!

Noodle leg.

:D

He probably only had a year or two left in the NFL, as a backup, but the guy was a decent QB.

If any of us were Jets fans would you want a washed up Brunell, 41 years old, as your back up QB or a healthy Pennington? I would take noodle arm every time over Brunell.

I love Chad/Lionheart, would not want him in the same state as Sanchez.

Not a big fan of Brunell, and I am somewhat concerned at the Jets back up QB situation.

Good guy. Like him. Snakebit.

Anyone here remember Bob Jensen on USENET claiming Penny was far superior to then SB champ Brady?

Given the weakness of the Jets at starting QB, the backup QB situation isn't really as vital as it is for teams with good QBs, because the team won't have to adapt to as big a drop in play.

Hey, it's not my fault that Sanchez is a bottom tier QB.

You are being a clown right? As much as Sanchez has struggled in the regular season he has done pretty well in the playoffs.

I still have my concerns about Mark, I do remain highly optimistic, as is my way.

I once held very high hopes for Penny, only to see those hope frittered away due in the most part because Chad is an egg.

Hey, it's not my fault that Sanchez is a bottom tier QB.

Sanchez gets a lot of slack but the bottom line is Sanchez is 4-2 in the playoffs in 2009 and 2010....Brady is 0-2

Sanchez may have not been the main reason why the Jets have not made it farther and into the SB,but he certainly has not been the main reason why they lost either.

Since 2001 we've failed to win the AFCE only twice, both times because of him

Sanchez is a bottom tier quarterback to this point in his career. Feel free to take a look at his numbers, and that's with his coach shielding him.

QB ratings:

63.0
75.3

TD/INT:
12/20
17/13

We've gone over the lucky year he had as far as dropped picks in other threads, which would have made his numbers even worse.

Having a couple of good games in the playoffs doesn't transform his overall level, just as Eli's having a tremendous playoff run in 2007 didn't magically turn him into a top 5 QB overall.

He did show at least some improvement from year one to year two. Maybe this will be the year he elevates out of the QB basement.

What did Sanchez have to do with the Patriots finishing 3rd in the division in 2002?

QB ratings are crap. Sanchez has turned it up in the postseason and I give him kudos for that. Do I like the guy? No. Do I respect what he has done in the playoffs? Yes.

Is Brady better? Of course he is in the regular season. Is Brady better the last few times he has been in the playoffs????????????

As far as Brady and Sanchez are compared there is no comparison...not because of the longevity of their careers thus far or Super Bowl rings, but Brady is simply the QB that will be more of the factor of winning games because of his work....or lose games as well while Sanchez is simply a manager at this game at this time and lets the other players around him perform above standards in order to win.

Brady is no longer the Playoff God we all knew and loved and we need to see that again if we are to get to the AFCCG like the Jets have accomplished the past 2 consecutive seasons under Sanchez and Ryan.

Sanchez does not need to carry his team on his shoulders to win.....at this point with a very young defense,Brady DOES have to.

QB ratings aren't crap. They are a flawed statistic, but that's not the same thing.

Top 10 in 2010:

Brady/Rivers/Rodgers/Vick/Roethlisberger/Freeman/Flacco/Cassel/Schaub/Manning

Top 10 in 2009:

Brees/Favre/Rivers/Rodgers/Roethlisberger/Manning/Schaub/Romo/Brady/Warner

Are those perfect representations of the top QBs in the league each year? No, but they're not
Godawful, either, because the unevenness of the ratings gets smoothed out over the course of a full season.

I'd also say that you're overrating Sanchez' playoff performances. In his rookie year, he had one great game against a fraud team (Bengals), and one good half against the Colts.

Last year, he stunk in round 1, was "meh" against the Patriots (the QB rating you despise inflated his game play), and "meh" against the Steelers.

That's not exactly setting the world on fire.

I mistakenly read the Patsy post as a reference to the post above it, which was about Sanchez. I was trying to figure out how 2002 and 2008 were on Sanchez. Thanks for setting me straight.
