Re: Pats Hall Fame Ballot

I think Bledsoe has to get in......and next year it's my boy Troy :rocker:

Re: Pats Hall Fame Ballot

It makes me sad that Reiss works for a Mickey Mouse outfit.

(Disney owns E!SPN.)

Re: Pats Hall Fame Ballot

How was Irving Fryar even discussed other than in the context that he will never get into the Patriots HOF. The guy was somewhat of a bust and major headcase for the Pats. He didn't get good until he got traded to the Fins. I think the knife his wife used to cut him right before the AFC title game in 1986 or the car he crashed while the game was going on after he got tossed are more deserving to go into the Hall. He will be remembered more in these parts for his many off the field incidents (the two I mentioned along with him threating people with a gun outside a Providence nightclub and him supposably getting shot at himself in a robbery attempt at Downtown Crossing) than anything he had done on the field for the Patriots.

After what Parcells pulled, no way!

I agree with you.. However, without Parcells, there is no Bledsoe and no Belichick. Just food for thought.

Didn't like the way he left, but Parcells resurrected this franchise and is the reason why Kraft bought the team and saved it from being shipped to St. Louis. Prior to Parcells, there were 15,000 people in the stands. Parcells brought the sell outs which made Kraft realize that it was good business to buy the team for (at the time) was a ridiculous amount of money.

Without Parcells, this team would be the St. Louis Budweisers or something like that.

All of that stuff would get him into the hall, but the way he left keeps him out.

I say he should be in but Drew first then the dynasty guys and years from now come back to Parcells

Well, yes and no.

Even if Parcells was not in place hopefully whoever else was here would take Bledsoe over Mirer; maybe not, who knows.

On the other hand Bledsoe in the hands of another coaching staff may have ended up with a career that more closely resembled Mirer's.

A blast from the past on the comparison back then. Interesting to see the other topics of that time: "McMahon May Have Locked Up Viking QB Starting Spot", Tagliabue Harpoons Mirer's Contract", "Pats Sign Bledsoe for $14.88 Million", and "Torretta Not Considered Top Prospect".

To me Bledsoe is a lock; he's in the Pats HoF.

In my opinion if there is a debate, it's over Curtis Martin. He was great with the Pats and had a great NFL career, but is three years enough to get you in a team's HoF? Martin does rank 4th all-time in career rushing yardage with the Pats. Same question holds for Corey Dillon, who was also a Patriot for only three years - but is third in franchise history for rushing touchdowns.

It's unfortunate for guys like Houston Antwine and Jon Morris that they did not get in earlier. They're nominations are fighting a double-edged sword: every year that passes the memory of them grows dimmer, plus with each passing year they are up against younger players such as Bledsoe, Francis and Martin that fans and the media have a much better memory of watching and having seen them play.

Houston Antwine was a MAN and a great Patriot

Morris was a solid rock at center for years ..a player I was proud to root for

Curtis Martin is scum..he's a proud former Jet...let them enshrine him in their Hall Of Losers

Parcells was a mercenary...he's already in the Giant HOF..that's good enough

Is Grogs in the Hall?..if not, he goes in before Bledsoe

JMO FWIW

well... I realise Bledsoe should get in because of what he did for the franchise from 93-97... but how bout guys like Daryll stingley, irving fryer , ray clayborn, russ francis, they deserve to be in before the guy that threw away more games then he won... i love drew, but ......

Grogs is in...yeah, Clayborn for sure as well as Russ...jeezus, how is Russ NOT in the HOF???

Oh well, makes a great trivia question.

What 11 year Patriot player is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his career accomplishments, but not in the Patriots Hall of Fame?

The Pats only have 4 HOF'ers and they're all in the Pats HOF too...is this a trick question?

He wasn't inducted, but he is on the plaque in the Hall of Fame as a member of the all time AFL team.

...I know, I talked to the curator. ;)

The only other Patriot on that 1st team in Buoniconti, who is Pats HOF, all AFL and PF HOF.

Morris made 2nd team.

Curiously, Dee and Jim Lee Hunt are in the Pats HOF when Antwine was the best (of a good lot) lineman. Hunt actually has his jersey retired even though he plays the same position as Antwine and did not even make 2nd team all AFL. I imagine he went in to politics after his career.

Larry Eisenhauer probably deserves it as much as them too, but that's a quibble, Antwine was the best.

The thing is, I just can't bring myself to even consider Parcells in the Patriots HOF. I was thrilled with what he did for the team, but I will go to my grave convinced we lost the Superbowl because of his actions with the Jets. His heart wasn't in it anymore, he was pissed off at Kraft and then his actions afterward were incredibly disrespectful to both the players, owner and fan base.

Yes, you will never get ahead in football without an ego as big or bigger then your skill set(s), but an honorable man doesn't act like he did at the end.

Recognition in the HOF is for those who put the team ahead of themselves, who rose above the "me" and made it all about the "us". Parcells isn't one of those types to me. He's done great things for football, and the PF HOF can recognize him for those. However, here in Patriots Nation, I still taste vinegar when I see pics of him wearing the team colors.

Other's mileage and opinions will vary, I know, but that's how I see it.

respects,

I'd strongly get behind a fan-backed initiative to have Beldsoe, Parcells, AND Bob Kraft (in the Contributor category) go into the Hall of Fame together on the First Ballot.

The arguments of who is most responsible for turning the franchise around are almost irrelevant. All three deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, and it would be most fitting if all three went in together.

Mike Holovak is the only retired coach who definitely should be in. I can see pro and con for Parcells. He and Berry had one Super Bowl visit.

Vinatieri will be a no-brainer when it's his turn.
