Rookies who attend the draft should point to veterans who appear on NFL Network

THis is pretty much the exact thought I had when I read of Gronk's presence on the show.

At this point I don't have a problem with either the veterans appearing on the NFL Network and/or rookies showing up for the draft. It's still fairly early and I think it is still civil between the two sides. Should we get to late July and nothing has happened then they might want to think about banning anything to do with the NFL. I still believe there will be some type of deal come June, because these guys can't be that arrogant or stupid....

......can they?

For somebody who claims to be a "business partner" with the NFL, the NFLPA isn't being very business savvy. Boycotting the draft is only going to accomplish one thing - take away from the popularity of the game. So will boycotting the NFL network. Bruschi isn't 100% correct in his evaluation. The young players coming in are going to taking away roster spots from the veterans. So if you look at it that way, their shaking hands with the NFL commissioner is the least of the vets' problems.

How many people do you know that make a minimum of 150K a year at 22? Say the average career is three years. That's 450k. They are out of the game at 25....and can do a lot of things. Find a job. Go back to school. Etc. And, if they were smart enough, a little bit of a nest egg to get them started on the rest of their lives. I have no sympathy for either the owners or the players. Part of me thinks no season would be good. They can screw eachother the way they are screwing the fans.

According to Miquel's page the 2011 minimum salaries are:
Rookie - $320,000
1 Credited Season - $395,000
2 Credited Seasons - $470,000

You're off by about 700k it would be $1,185,000 after three seasons.

Its a lot of money, but the players pay income tax in some states where games are held.

Everybody has their hand out.

Let's not forget that the players also have to pay $10K/year for NFLPA union dues. And 3% to the agent.

Still, $320K is a whole lot more than most of their classmates will ever earn in annual salary.

Better yet, the vast majority of the players got full scholarships to a 4 year college. Not having loans etc. to pay back is worth well over $100,000 compared to the average college graduate who pays back loans with AFTER TAX earnings, so $100K benefit is a very LOW estimate.
