Jerod Mayo's younger brother to enter the draft

He's a ST'er for NE, unless BB wanted to try him at SS. Possible 7th, but more likely a UDFA. The NY Daily News article on him was pretty good.

I've read about him before. Supposedly his vertical is off the charts--well over 40 inches. Jerod is a pretty good athlete in his own right, so if he says that his younger brother is the best athlete in the family, that impresses me. The one thing that stands heavily in Deron's favor is that his brother knows the playbook as well as the coaches by this point. He would come into the season with a significant head start on other similar prospects.

What's not to like in the late rounds? Special teams dominance, can possibly play the linebacker/safety hybrid that BB has tinkered with in the past, and has a heck of a role model and mentor in his older brother.

I love it!

Where's PatJew when you need him? DRAFT THE BEAST:rocker:

I've seen 36.5 for his VJ. OTOH, he has a 4.37 in the 40 , and a short shuttle of 4.12.

I am trying to remember the Patriots having 2 players who were brothers on this team

I think there was once was 2 guys who were brothers...can anyone remember who they were?

The 6-foot-2, 229-pound former defensive end will be trying to make it in the NFL as a linebacker.
Actually he measured in at:

Height: 5111
Weight: 218

He's also listed as an OLB/SS candidate. Obviously, he'll need to earn his roster spot on ST. What's encouraging here is, he knows ST will be his ticket:

"I think I've got some really good special-teams film," he said. "I'll do anything to get on a football team. I think I could be an inside linebacker. I've been working on safety, too."
"I'm facing a big challenge, but I'm never going to doubt myself. I'll be the first in line. I'll run through walls. Just be better than the next guy."

Robert and Clarence Weathers

Priority UDFA? Why not. He need to get bigger, a lot bigger if he wants to play LB for the Pats but that athleticism is impressive and could be useful as a ST gunner if nothing else. Problem is that the special teams slots are limited so he would have to be outstanding in that category. Big brother taking him under his wing might help his development though so who knows. *shrugs* Would be an interesting story. Stash him on the PS and let him develop more?

Or maybe they could use him in place of Arrington as a DE (he's bigger and faster ;) ). . . .

If they get rid of the wedge that could be an ideal size for an inside kickoff guy.

Teams can't sign UDFA until a new CBA is worked out, correct? This could make picking up extra 6ths / 7ths more attractive to get the first look at guys like Mayo.

Sounds great on paper but it could be ugly if the Patriots have to cut him...

This may come as a shock to everyone but BB is not the sentimental type although I have to believe that he always looking for ST help and would not mind some safety depth.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance with a 7th or as an UDFA (whenever they're allowed). As an UDFA, I think we'd have the inside track to signing him.

It could get ugly if he gets cut, but I think Jerod is a big boy and knows even the time in camp would be good for his brother to get some tape for others.
