What's the head coach of the Jets doing at the pro day for the number 1 (or 2) QB in draft? Inquiring minds want to know...

Paging Mark Sanchez.
Yes, This is the Sanchise.
Hold for an important call please.
Ah, Mark? This Mike Tannebaum. Um, Mark, we've made a decision...

And don't try to feed me any of that due diligence stuff. Fat Rex doesn't fly to MO just for the heck of it. OK, maybe he was there to see Aldon Smith, but I don't buy it. Ryan goes all the out there to see a OLB, no way. That just a smoke screen for getting a good look at Gabbert. Granted, the Jets would have to trade away their draft to get near him but that's their specialty isn't it?

A: Scouting Aldon Smith.

Edit: seriously, Smith fills a need for them. Why not?

You're right, no way Rex Ryan takes a free flight all the way to Mizzou to see a position of need....that would be absolutely ludicrous.

And as much as I love Aldon as a prospect, if the Jets are willing to trade up and get him, they can have him. That'd take at least their 1st, 3rd, and probably a future pick, since they don't have a 2nd.

- Kevin Rutland, a DB, was also there, and the Jets like DBs

- It's a chance for Rexy to be near the spotlight, which I hear he likes, though I havent been able to confirm it yet.

- It's never a bad thing to get extra info on players you're going up against. The Patriots has a rep at Sam Bradford's pro day and I rather doubt BB was considering trading up for him.

Business trip.

Theres damn good pizza and bbq in Columbia, Mo.

Good move by Rex ... always keep everyone guessing is the best strategy.

yeah...Wrecks likes keeping everyone on their toes for sure...

Maybe they were offering excellent G-damn snacks.

Why was here there? Five words - All you can eat buffett.

I'm hoping that a Tsunami hits Blaine Gabbert's Pro Day.

Is that too much to ask?

in a separate story, Rex Ryan is likely to take a crap today......news at 6

The Jets don't really have a dominating passrusher. So they're probably taking a gander at Smith to see if he is worth moving up for. Either that or Rex heard that donuts were being given out for free at that Pro Day. :D

To move up would cost a lot. RFA (if) Cromartie plus a 1st, 3rd ........ sign Asoumougha ........ draft Aldon Smith (for example).

Smith is highly likely to be better than Gholston and a 30 year old billion dollar Asamougha better than Cromartie. The risk, however, is enormous. They can't miss on Aldon Smith who will need to be more than a JAG. Otherwise, they've spun their wheels at the cost of 1st and 3rd.

Other scenarios, such as keep Cromartie (no Nmandi) and give a 2012 1st round pick (likely to be late - on paper) instead, point in the same direction. The risk is Huuuuuuge.
