Potential Patriots WTF? Moment at #17

I see him as someone The Patriot Way could help.

Do you really believe Kraft and BB will fork out guaranteed millions to a guy that makes bad decisions. Last year the #10 pick received 5 yr $28 mill $17.5 mill guaranteed. #17 received 5 yr 18.25 mill $10.8 mill guaranteed.

Hankerson would be a wtf. Muhammed wilkerson too would be. He seems highly rated here, but other sites, not so much....more raw than anything else.

I try to give the benefit of the doubt...if they draft heyward at #17, then they must think he'll be great here..

Let's face it, last year there was probably a feeling of  when Devin McCourtey's name was announced. As it turned out it was a masterstroke from BB as we drafted a potential career pro-bowl shutdown corner. However, at the time not many people probably had Devin pencilled in at the pick. This got me to thinking:

1. Is there a realistic chance of a WTF? moment at 17 this year or do you feel our needs are obvious and the number of realistic picks is relatively small ?

2. If there is a WTF? moment at 17 who do you think it might be ? Is there a running back, safety, WR or whatever who would represent good value in BB's eyes and may be worth a 17 to the coach. Could he stick with the OLB/DE/OL positions but pick someone who others had going lower ?

A QB or a TE at #17 would be a WTF for me. And if we moved up to #5 and took Miller, that would be a WTF for me as well.

While some actually predict the Pats to draft him at #17...I think my WTF player would be JJ Watt

I don't think Watt will be anywhere near a stud in the NFL....My gut feeling

Look at the watch while it goes back and forth. On the count of 3 you will come out of this trance and will be ready to go out and buy a JJ Watt authentic jersey.

Did it work?:)

He certainly did make a bad decision. He accepted gifts from an agent which is a broken rule. Not a crime. It's not like he was smoking crack with a 12 year old kid or beating up his girlfriend in his dormitory. Maybe gouging a players eyes out on the field is ok since it was on the football field?

I'd let BB do the interviewing and background checks to see if he checks out. Personally I'm not going to hold it against him when we all know this kind of thing has been going on since the booster clubs were invented. He's owned up to it and that's about all he can do at this point. The rest is up to BB and his evaluation. Your right they may stay a thousand miles away from him. I'd be willing to wager besides Bush and Quinn there are upwards of 50+ kids {and thats being conservative} that are taking handouts. They just happened to get caught, some possibly playing for the Pats right now. You just don't know. But since he caught he is undraftable.

A #17 WTF? = Any small school prospect.

Did you think the same of the Seymour over David Terrell pick? ^_^ If so then your gut feelings are a good omen for us!

Cornerback. Afterwards BB will be highly circumspect about the pick but when the season starts he will be playing safety. Felger and Boges and the rest of the Jackals in the Press will howl after the pick (always a good sign).

I see Ingram as a :enranged: choice, not a :wha: choice, if that makes sense.

It makes PERFECT sense. And it's a very good point.

Ingram would be an AWFUL mistake, nothing against Ingram.

The others would fall into the "In Bill We Trust" camp, not without a LOT of cringing.

As disruptive and annoying as WTF Moments are, in the Belichick Era, I have come to look forward to them, lately.

I believe that Coach Bill The Mad has DRAMATICALLY upped his Drafting Game, these last two years, and guess what??

He's running a solid 50% WTFCR ~ WTF Conversion Rate ~ in the 1st 2 Rounds, the last two years!!

***

Ron Brace?? WTF???

Sebastian Vollmer?? WTF???

Devin McCourty?? WTF???

Jermaine Cunningham?? WTF???

By "Conversion" I meant that 50% of his Picks in the first 2 Rounds have BEEN WTF's...

But, looking at that short list, he's done PRETTY WELL, hasn't he?? :D

Ingram comes in and we make a few changes on the oline. He becomes a top 3 rusher for the next 6 years and the Patriots win 2 superbowls during that period of time. Is Ingram an "AWFUL mistake"?

Sorry, I shouldn't've said "awful".

Correction...

Drafting Ingram at #17 would be a GOD Awful mistake.

You know, I'm totally opposed to that pick but I still agree with you. A guy who seems like a safe bet to be a solid starter and to upgrade his position can't be called "an AWFUL mistake." I just think it's the wrong strategic approach to the draft.

Wrong.

That theoretical Pick CAN be called "an AWFUL mistake."

And it HAS been called "an AWFUL mistake." :)

Although we probably could use one how about Brandon Harris or another similar cb? That would certainly be a wtf moment.

agreed, I watched McCourty throughout college and was shocked when we took him. I have learned to go with whatever pick BB makes for he might be a better scout and he might have better insight on how to run the team;)

This may be the time to reveal a little secret. Ah, never mind -- I'll wait...

Come on now. Plug in any name from this draft you'd like. Torrey Smith, Brandon Harris, Raheem Moore. If the Patriots win two Super Bowls in the next six years with their contributions, is any of them a wasted pick?
