Orlando Ruff

What the message left out was ESPN saying the Patriots might sign him to replace Seau. Replace the roster spot, anyway.

Is this the guy that went off on a ref for throwing a beanbag in his face, because of some kind of former eye injury?

No that was OT Orlando Brown.

Wrong Orlando. Jeff Triplette hit Orlando Brown.

From the Globe:

"With Junior Seau on injured reserve, the Patriots have an open roster spot, so they could look to sign another linebacker. One interesting possibility would be Orlando Ruff. The team brought in Ruff, an eight-year veteran who played for Romeo Crennel in Cleveland last year, for a workout in August. As of last night, Ruff's representatives said the linebacker had not been contacted by the Patriots."

Let's re-read that last part - "As of last night, Ruff's representatives said the linebacker had not been contacted by the Patriots."

No that was Orlando Brown. In fairness, that beanbag ended his career and broke the orbital socket and made him blind in one eye... It csot him millions. I'd be angry too.

I knew it was an Orlando that played for Cleveland. Orlando Brown did, right?

Orlando Ruff. Orlando Brown. Orlando Pace. What is the deal with naming kids after Orlando, anyway? I always thought it was a Mickey Mouse town.

Well, he did come back for 2003-5 with the Ravens, but yes, it did essentially end his career.

Huh? The guy broke his orbital socket getting hit with a bean bag? Who threw the bean bag, Randy Johnson?

No, Jeff Tripplette, the guy who screwed the Patriots over in the playoffs last year.

Last year Romeo tried to change the D to the 3-4 but couldn't because they couldn't "get it". IMO, this was the reason for showing McGinest the money to bring him in. Ruff only had 31 total tackles last yr, less than 1/2 the previous, so it seems he's one who couldn't "get it."

Of the people you mentioned, only Eric Warfield and the waterboy are not currently under contract to another NFL team.

Claiborne signed with the Giants a while back.
Guss Scott was claimed off waivers by the Texans at the start of the year, was recently cut for equally ex-Pat Michael Stone, and then was claimed off waivers by The Penguin.

Its actually pretty likely that if Scott had actually cleared waivers, the Pats would have replaced Rashad Baker with him. Scott plays special teams and has actually started for this defense before.
