I felt the same way coming away from their conversation. Mentioning Houston or Ayers with anyting lower than 50 disturbs me quite a bit and reinforces my belief that Bunting has lost it.

Where as Gabriel says everything you would expect from someone who seems to know something about Belichick. Trades, a possible RB scenario,offensive line help. Darreus as a glove like fit in New England. Sorry Sciz you are dead wrong about Darreus.

I never felt Bunting had it, but he's as good an alternate perspective read as you can find. They really wasted that opportunity by leaving Gabriel to generalities.

any draft for me where we take ayres i don't like just because i don't like his fit with us could prove me wrong thats just my feeling atm.

Interesting way they have this draft falling... no rb's in the 1st? meaning we have a shot at ingram at 33... in my opinion if it falls like that it's a no brainer you take the value there. If he swaps gabe carimi to our 28th pick then i like those picks for us in this scenario. Watt, Carimi, Ingram.

I would be celebrating on draft day... which means that will never happen

Pre-draft, I wouldnt trust BB as far as I could throw Wilfork, the last thing he'd tell you at this point would be the truth, unless it was because he wanted to trick you into thinking the opposite.

Now that's unfair. The chances of us drafting him after his spectacular combine are just about 0. Besides, when another team drafts him and he ends up being good you will just claim he he would of never fit the Pats system anyway. Which means I will never be able to call you wrong.

Yeah, because he's going to be drafted by either a 4-3 team or a 1-gap 3-4 team. I think that if he keeps his head on straight (i.e., not showing up to camp 40 pounds overweight like a certain former teammate and current Bengal), he can flourish in those schemes. In the Pats' scheme, I've got huge doubts. In most other schemes, he's a pretty good starter. So when he does end up being good, I will have been completely correct

Marcel Dareus is fantastic, and I have nothing but love for the guy...But as a Scheme Fit, he is clearly a Fail.

He may well end up on the Colts, and that would certainly suck.

The only thing that would suck worse...would be if he ended up starting on the Patriots.

He plays the 3 in a 43 as well as the 5 in a 34. Alabama runs both packages as do we. He could play nose if we asked him to. The days of strictly the 34 are over as I'm sure you've noticed. His versatility would be unmatched in this defense. He's the best 2 gap in this draft imo. To each his own.

I think that there's a few things that he does really well. I think that those skills correlate better to playing on the guard than the tackle or center. Do I think he can play 1-5? Yeah, special players can do that and he's special. He's a three down/60 snap player which is rare on the d-line. That being said, I don't think that his best place is head up on the tackle nor head up on the guard. Head up on the center would look like the shower scene from American History X. If I'm a 43 team, I'm putting him on the outside shoulder of the guard and letting him play ball. In the right situation he lines up in the 1, and if I have leftover players from a 34 regime (Yeah, he's going to Denver) he plays some 5 in sub.

I think it depends on what kind of player you're looking for. If you want a shooter who can also lock a guy out, Dareus is a nice fit. If you're concerned with clogging passing lanes, lateral agility, hand technique and overall versatility your guy is Watt. Every year there's a Marcel Dareus. JJ Watt is a very rare blend of talents that seldom find themselves placed in that frame. Wow, I'm way too into Watt.

I thought my heart would never recover from CB, but there's a new love in town and never had the fire burned as bright as it does for Watt. I have never been more sure of a player in my life.

Great insightful post. I almost busted a gut regarding the shower scene. Although I don't agree with your argument completely you make one based on your opinion and I do respect that a ton. You have excellent posts btw.

As far as Watt, I think he started out as a dim bulb and worked his way up to a power plant for a lot of us. Really, he didn't do anything for me 4 months ago. But after watching his tape and reading his writeups I think Watt fever has spread to many fans throughout the NFL. His size is the closest thing to come to Seymours in a long time. Nothing is a sure thing but he just seems to have the nack for making things happen out there. I like him quite a bit myself. I know reading on San Diego and Houston's board they like him a lot too which is bad for us. We are going to have to trade up to get him. I'd be fine with that.

How is a guy that has never player a down for the Pats "clearly" a fail? Sorry but that's nothing more than speculation on your part.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't born being able to play a 3 technique or whatever, he had to learn it, why then is it assumed that he cannot learn to be an extremely effective 5 technique?
