Trade Scenario

I have got to believe BB will trade a pick in this year's draft. With the current negotiations going on, the big $$$ will still go to the 1st. round picks (right)? Either way, my guess is BB trades a pick in the first two rounds.
What's your best guess or return prize for the pick?
Mine: Trades the 28th pick to Carolina for next years #1 and Steve Smith. I don't see Carolina trading for #33 due to backlash, but with Fox gone and a new coach I could see the Panthers wanting a QB if there man is still on the board and they went defense with #1.
My second guess: Pats trade 2nd rounder for a #1 next year and #3 this year ( to a team that will not be good...............Vikings).
What say you?

I don't see the Patriots being that stupid. Steve Smith's best days are behind him. His long injury history and dogging injuries as well, makes him a player worth blackballing right out of the NFL. He is a cancer cell ready to explode the first time he doesn't get his way and will run right over to the trainer to prove his point. Someone who beats up his own team mates and is a distraction doesn't seem to be worth it imo.

Believe me, this is coming from a guy that has enjoyed watching him play over the years. He has been quite a player in this league. But behind the scenes he has been less than good.

Minnesota has the talent to turn it around next year if they insert the right QB in there during the offseason. All bets are off where they will place next year. Especially now that moron of a coach is gone.

Agree on Minnesota being a likely trade partner for the reasons you mention. Some of the others (Raiders, Carolina, Jets, Fins) are likely looking to trade but not with the Pats.

My key trade partner for this year is Houston. They have multiple pressures (making the playoffs, unseating the Colts, transitioning to a 3-4 defense) and they seem ready to bust through the 9-10 win ceiling. One more year of missing the playoffs and many things are likely to change. Seems like a prime candidate for either moving up to #11 or trading out for a 2012 1st rounder.

Kind of off topic...if someone trades into 2012 and the draft is ruled illegal, what will happen? I doubt it comes to that but if the lawsuit goes the players way (possible) and a new CBA can't be reached by the 2012 draft (possible), then there might not be a 2012 draft. Not a big deal if you trade for a late round 2012 pick but potentially losing a 1st round pick may be too much to risk.

I presume it will be written in such a way that when (not if) the draft is reinstated, it would carry over to that draft.

Very likely. While you wouldn't lose the pick, you might not be able to cash it in for a year or two, reducing its value. Do you think that possibility might stifle trades for future picks or raise the asking price for trading into the 2011 draft?

FWIW, I doubt it gets to that point.

Personally, I dont see any player in the draft that will warrant a pick at #17. The quality seems to dropoff after the top-5, and then there's a whole peer group that lasts into the late 20s that feel rather interchangable, a few solid OTs, DTs, DEs, WRs.

My prediction:

Pats trade #17 and #124 to Seattle for the #25 selection their 2nd rounder this year (#57). Seattle is targeting Cam Newton who falls that far and seems impossible to pass up.
