Which means the Jest get another big break to spend all their uncapped money on all those FA again, and with a possibly short season it is only going to be easier for them to win it all, and you know sex rexy won't care about not playing 16+ games to win a SB all he want is a WIN!!

Also if and when the season resumes which will happen i think before the draft, the eliete eight rule applies from last year, you cant sign a fa unless you lose one... there will be a full season, once this injuction is heard the rules of last year will apply and the labor thing will play out in court... I think a deal will happen by the summer but the season will not be shorten or lost, it still sucks that it has come to this but both sides wanted the courts to settle it not by themselves... Now if the injunction is ruled in favor of the greedy owners, then all bets are off, hopefully the players come back to the table and hammer out a deal, but we just have another month of non football to talk about..

Are you sure about that? I think the elite 8 was only for the last year of the cba.

I could be wrong, but the leauge will have to institue the rules of last year in place... which the eilte eight was part of the rules last year... and yes the pats would be in the eilete eight....

That speculation doesn't make much sense since the owners already flatly refused that option as far back as a year ago even with the rookie cap thrown in as a sweetener... and all the other rules in place aside from the cap still open them to the same anti-trust scrutiny. The theory seems to be flawed in that respect, because merely prevailing in the lawsuit at tremendous cost by simply adhering to the terms of the final season of an expired CBA would represent a hollow victory and a losing financial proposition for the league and leave them in the same position going forward that they claim is untendable and facing the same lockout/decertification scenario in 2013.

If they implement work rules based on the last best offer including non core issues the union apparently agreed to during the course of mediation, they at least make more money for the duration of the process. Although some of them are on record stating that paying players at all while they are suing you is repeating a mistake that was made 22 years ago. And to counter that they would likely move ahead to the 18 game schedule which the expiring CBA allowed for without union consent... I wonder how much of that revenue the union would see absent a cap floor.

It doesn't even make sense as a projected outcome worth filing suit over unless De is full of it about his blather that half the league are veterans with 3-5 years of service and they are the one group aside from the owners who would be effectively screwed by the status quo...

I think speculation based on the injunction being granted is spinning wheels at this time because the owners appear to be on firm ground for mounting their sham defense and would likely appeal an initial ruling against them all the way to the supreme court taking up most of the summer before even contemplating taking a rope a dope strategy on the larger suit.

i would like to see the player stay locked out that way the player would have to take the offer that the owners put on the table witch IMO was i good offer if the players win we could see this go a lot longer because to many small market teams could fold up if the players get what they want

No, I as a fan hope the judge rules that the lockout is a legitimate bargaining tool let alone for use against a union that negotiated a bad deal on a lot of levels under the loaded gun threat of a work stoppage of it's own and an uncapped future back in 2006 followed by a sham decertified in March 2010 because it assumes it will do better in court than at a bargaining table...

I appreciate talent, but I love the game in part because it isn't necessarily the handful of obscenely overcompensated and egotistical talents that drive it's popularity or wins in this game. Unlike in MLB or the NBA. And I think today's owners are as a group more inclined to take care of the less talented but equally necessary journeymen players who have never been of great concern to the NFLPA.

The NFLAA (NFL Alumni Association) which represents retired players has not heard from De in over a year despite repeated requests that they institute a dialog by everyone from a former NFL player turned US Senator to the NFLAA President, who was btw an NFLPA President (as Mawae is today) in his playing days. All they've ever cared about was straight cash homey in the here and now. Then, when the finger pointing starts they claim the evil owners should have done more for whomever is pointing that finger. At least in his day Gene was painfully honest, stating on more than one occasion that retirees were not his constituency... I guess in his own way De has let everyone know that in his view his core constituency is the elite talent and players in the 2-5 year career range...

First, Florio is just speculating. No one knows how a 2011 season will work without a CBA.

Second, we are most likely going to see more of what we saw in 2010 with most team not spending a lot (the Jets didn't, they just traded for players). If the teams spend a lot, their argument that the current system is killing the league gets weakened.

Third, Florio suggests that if there is not cap in 2011, the final 4 rule will most likely be in effect. That means the Jets can't sign any free agents until their free agents gets signed elsewhere and they get equal money to spend. Granted it gives them more incentive to let Cromartie or Edwards or somewhere else get a new deal somewhere else quickly if they do not intend to sign them because it would give them the freedom to spend themselves.
