The NFLPA has told the NFL that they will agree to a further extension of the CBA on the condition that the NFL provides 10 years of audited financial statements.

So now we get to find out what the owners' priorities really are.

I think the poster was saying these guys could have collected checks last year and been under contract with a team right now instead they played their senior years and while they can still be drafted they may not got paid or even if they do it could be in the form of kaos.

yeah true, it is just a game after all

livelihood for the players and owners and everyone else affected by this (staff and such) but yeah, compared to people dying it's hard to take this as serious

They can use replacement players.
And the draft will still happen if that makes any sense.
BUT the NFL will be sued for being a monopoly since there is no player's union in place.
Greed wins over compromise today.

They're a private company, I wouldnt show my books either. On the other hand I see the players point. I have no sympathy for either side.
My bet is they end up settling before this case gets to court. This was just a move to gain some leverage and to get a better deal than they could have today.

The players hired Smith, a litigator, not a negotiator. The NFLPA plan all along was to go thru a Kabuki dance of feigned negotiation and proceed straight to litigation where they feel they have an advantage with a judge.

Meantime, I'm hustling trying to keep a roof over my head and feed my daughter and keep oil in my tank for heat. Work has been next to nothing for awhile now, I had the cable shut off to save money, and I literally have one pair of decent shoes and one pair of decent jeans left.

Now, my complaint isn't about ME, or my situation. It's about comparing the fans who love this team and who love football to the situations I see playing out with the players and owners. I'm all for a man making as much money as he can, and I don't begrudge either side their money. But let's be real here.

Folks are having a VERY hard time making ends meet, there's a whole nation just leveled by an earthquake with untold dead and suffering, and here we have millionaires and billionaires squawking over who gets the bigger share of a bloated pile of money.

Just work it out. The one thing I enjoy almost as much as my family is football, and I'd rather not lose that right now, thank you very much.

Good perspective with today's awful events in Japan.

I flip back & forth. Been mostly POed @ the owners' intransigence and inability to resolve their own internal issues in their Quixotic quest to get a billion dollars back that they negotiated away in panic last time. But today after watching Smith's behavior I flipped again. The players picked a bulldog litigator, not a negotiator as their guy. In retrospect it's clear by that move that they intended from day one to go the court route and bet on a labor sympathetic judge. No real intent to negotiate. A pox on both their houses.

Me neither and I have to shake my head in disbelief when I hear both sides say that they are sorry for the fans and will try their best to get to a system that is good for the fans. No they're not. Those negotiators are just trying to win the fans over, to have them side with them. They just win their sympathy and loyalty and use it as a leverage tool in future negotiations. They don't care about the fans.
