Who do you think they would take, and when?

And who do you think is on their "Do not want" list?

Note that I'm not limiting it to early picks. Anywhere in the draft is fine.

I'll take Randall "Tex" Cobb from Kentucky with the earliest 3rd we can get.

For me, if the patriots felt that they HAD to have WR help in the draft, the help would need to come in the first two rounds. It is not clear to me that anyone chosen later could be expected to be any different than Price, with little expectation of adding a lot as a rookie.

Personally, I would want them to be 6' and run about a 4.4 40 or better. The short list is
Green, Jones, Smith, Baldwin and Hinkerson.

Hankerson late in the 2nd, though they'll probably have to trade up for him from where they are right now.

Hmm...Denarius Moore in the late 3rd/early 4th? Like Hankerson, he strikes me as a highly skilled guy who labored in an incompetent college offense.

I'd start with those two. Most know about Hankerson but I think Moore will be a steal. Already a better route runner than Brandon Tate, and excels at the intermediate/deep routes, which is EXACTLY the kind of receiver we ought to be seeking. The Pats have the short zone covered with their current receiving corps (just ask the Jets). Have to bring in someone to compete with Taylor Price in TC, because Tate is not the one to establish the downfield connection with Brady.

I like DeAndre Brown from Southern Miss.

He's 6-6, 233 lbs. but he ran a 4.63 at the combine....he ran an unofficial 4.4 though. His biggest downside was his vertical which was only 29. Round 5-7.

I also like Toliver.

I like Hankerson on day 2.
I think Edmond Gates could be a real burner for us on day 3.
Vincent Brown will be another guy available on day 3. Not really a deep speed guy but a good route runner. Not sure where he fits though.

Im with you on this one. I just cant see why the Pats should use another pick somewhere in rounds 2-3 on a WR. The Pats have done that recently in Tate and Price and we have another young WR in Edelman who I think could benefit from more playing time. Plus I think the Pats have greater needs early in the draft. Id rather see them take a chance on a WR in rounds 4 or later. Brown and Toliver are two of my targets as well.

I've never been a fan of WRs or RBs high in the draft, but IMO it doesn't matter what picks they spent on Tate and Price. Either they have confidence in one of those two becoming a long-term starter or not. And if not, they should keep looking.

Let's say the Pats' draft goes something like this...

#17 J.J. Watt, DE
#28 Brooks Reid, OLB
#33 Danny Watkins, OG
#60 Brandon Fusco, C
#74 Demarco Murray, RB

...would Denarius Moore really be such a bad move at #92?

I touted him before. Great minds think alike. Tanner Doss is another one who is interesting.

Don't want WR taken before the 3rd round, however, here's my top ten (Green and Jones excluded):
1. Torrey Smith Maryland 6-0 205 4.45 round 2
2. Leonard Hankerson Miami 6-2 215 4.50 round 2
3. Randall Cobb Kentucky 5-11 185 4.50 round 2
4. Edmund Gates Abilene Christian 5-11 190 4.45 round 3
5. Terrance Toliver LSU 6-3 210 4.55 round 4
6. Armon Binns Cincinnati 6-3 200 4.55 round 5
7. Denarius Moore Tennessee 6-1 195 4.50 round 6
8. Aldrick Robinson SMU 5-9 175 4.45 round 7
9. Darius Hanks Alabama 5-11 185 4.50 UDFA overshadowed by J Jones
10. Robert Griffin (QB) Baylor 6-3 200 4.45 UDFA development type

Now who I don't want::eek:
1. Jonathan Baldwin Pittsburgh
2. Titus Young Boise State
3. Vincent Brown San Diego State
4. Greg Little North Carolina
5. DeAndre Brown Southern Mississippi

I'm not bashing, just curious, why no love (from anyone) for Titus Young? I haven't had a chance to watch film, but he looks like he could possibly be a good fit.

He never declared and will return to Baylor as a redshirt junior in 2011.

Hankerson, Moore, Brown, a tall 'X' receiver who can be a deep threat and win jump balls, something we need because outside the numbers weve struggled

Tate needs to improve, Branch is slowing down and cant stay healthy and who knows what we have in Price

I hope its something we do

Something else regarding Randall Cobb, the guy is very multi-dimensional, not only is he a WR but also a KR, he used to be a QB who has throw the ball in College and even functioned as a RB on some plays.

The guy seems to be able to do just about anything, I bet he could become a great long-snapper, kicker, and DB if he wanted to. With all that a guy like that can offer would have to put him higher on my list than many other guys.

If we don't get him I bet Pioli grabs him for the Chiefs.

Kid's an off-field time bomb, talent out the backside, but ...

I think we have enough slot WRs between Edelman, Welker, the RBs and even the TEs. We need an outside threat that Moss used to give us. Branch only has one year left, Tate and Price haven't come out of the shadows yet so chances are we'll be selecting a big target who can go up and get the ball, but also get down the field fast. Green and Jones definitely fit that mold, but may not be there at 17. The next best thing for me would be Baldwin. In the late rounds I would consider my sleeper this year in Andre Holmes or Tori Gurley.

We already have a ton of slot guys and the only place I see this kid contributing early is as a slot guy.
