I forgot, was it a RB who wanted to come out of retirement in his 50s? I feel stupid because I remember it was a name I should easily recall...

This was being talked about regarding Herschel Walker recently.

The Giants still hold his rights.

Yes they do, though from the sounds of it, the Giants plan on releasing him so he can be a free agent.

Agent: Ex-New York Giants player Tiki Barber files to play in NFL again - ESPN New York

Barber, who had two years left on his Giants contract when he retired, will not be making his comeback with New York.

"We wish Tiki nothing but the best, and when we are able to make the transaction, we will release him from our reserve/retired list," team spokesman Pat Hanlon said in a statement.

The reason John Riggins came back: I'm bored, I'm broke, I'm back!!

Isn't this the guy that dogged his coach, retired, and then the team went on to win the superbowl? Any team that picks him up is pretty much doomed this year.

Tiki's problem was that Tiki can't help but allow young ladies who don't happen to be his wife play with his lit-up Tiki Torch

$100 he joins the redskins. Snyder will take anyone who was a superstar. and also as an FU to the giants.

Why would that bother the Giants? They owned his rights since he retired while still under contract, but they have already told him to take a hike, making the announcement a couple of nano seconds after Tiki announced his "return."

There's no WAY he's going back there. I doubt he's worth anything on the open market. I'd have to think Giants will have to cut him. His guarantee would be gone I would assume when he retired.

they cut him about two seconds after he made the announcement. can't do it formally until there's a new CBA, but they made it clear they wanted nothing to do with him. he's toxic in NY after trashing Eli and Coughlin, who then just happened to go on and win a SB...

Thanks, dude. the image of a lit up Tiki torch is going to haunt me all day.

As mentioned above, they announced they were letting him go almost simultaneously with his announcement...they expressed the usual "best wishes," but pretty clearly meant "get lost fool."

No, I mean if he thinks he can still play, wouldn't he love to shred the giants?

I think it's a given someone will sign him. The real question is whether or not he's still on a roster by the start of the season.

And, as mentioned above:

I wouldn't argue with you about where he'll end up, since I don't think the Giants will want him back. I was just passing on what's been reported about his rights.

I am on the fence on this.

35 year old RBs are few and far between. But he didnt seem to take to much of a beating while he was playing and has been out for some time now so the legs should be fresh.

On the flip side one has to wonder what has happened to his instincts and whether to much rust has formed.

I think the real key will be what kind of shape he kept in because I think it is a lifelong commitment building ones body for the NFL that grows thru HS and College and into the pros and if he ignored the body too much for to long a few months wont be enough to get in shape to take an 18 game schedule.

I don't think he will, unless the team take a number of injuries at RB, like Denver last season.

Surprised nobody has suggested we sign him yet :D .

I think the only thing Tiki's going to be shredding is incriminating evidence before his divorce trial.
