It's one thing drafting a LB that ran a 5 whatever 40 like Spikes did. As much as I like Black and respect his dedication to football 4.80 is pretty slow no matter how good or smart you are. I wish him the best, but with so many good players likely to be available with 3b, why take a risk when you may be able to get him in the 5th or 6th?

Say no to Costanzo. Drafting right tackles who struggle at the Senior Bowl with the 17th pick isn't ideal to me. 28? Ok.

#28- DE/LB, Brooks Reed: They could go with Justin Houston here but I think Brooks Reed fits with them better and is the better player. The Patriots need to come out of this draft with at least one pass rusher. Brooks Reed might be considered by some as a reach here, but he had a great combine and the Patriots are known for reaching for some players. Reed fits what the Patriots are looking for, He loves to play the game, has a great motor, and can be a playmaker. It's exactly what the doctor ordered.

#33- DE/DT, Cameron Heyward: A lot of people may not think he will fall this far, but there are so many 3-4 defensive end prospects in this years draft that it's possible. Cameron Jordan, JJ Watt and Muhammed Wilkerson are all thought of higher than Heyward. The fact that he is coming off surgery may push him further down in the draft. The Patriots need to punce on him if he's available at 33. He measured in at the combine at 6'5" and 294 lbs., perfect size for a patriots end

#60- WR, Tandon Doss: Some may say that Doss won't fall this far either but like Heyward there are many more superior WR Prospects in a deep draft for wideouts this year. The only concern may be that at #38 for Cleveland, they would jump on Doss if he's there but the Patriots have a surplus of draft picks this year and could jump ahead of Cleveland if they are really high on Doss. Doss fits what the Patriots need, a bigger receiver (6'2", 201 lbs.), runs good routes, can go deep and has the ability to become a potential go to receiver.

#76- OG, Danny Watkins: Logan Mankins insurance but can also compete with Dan Connelly at the other guard. Watkins Plays with a mean streak and can start from day one on the line. I believe he can definately be the superior player to Connelly. Another Patriots type pick.

#92- S, Ahmad Black: Bill Belichick will come out of this draft with at least one Florida player. Ahmad Black didn't really impress anybody in the combine but neither did Brandon Spikes and the Patriots took him in the second round when Spikes was projected to go in the 3rd-4th round. Black is the type of player the Patriots take and this point, He has great character and was a playermaker at Florida. I also think the Patriots have really soured on Meriweather and with him being in the final year of his contract, they have to have a backup plan.

Ah, you might be surprised! BB has traded a 3rd for a future 2nd 3 years in a row now! Twice it was the low #89; the one time it was a higher 3rd (#69) they picked up a 5th in the same year's draft in addition.

That's true and I love it, but he got two of the best 3rd-round deals ever! Until then there had only been a handful of future #2s dealt for picks in the eighties. I'd love to see it, though.

I think Doss will be more of a developmental guy and they will still sign a receiver in free agency, possibly Mike Sims-Walker. As far as Black's speed goes, speed isn't everything. I bet you Bethel Johnson would kill Larry Fitzgerald in a footrace, doesn't make him a better receiver.

I still think they take Watt at 17 IF HE'S STILL THERE. There's no way they can pass on Watt if he's still there at 17, he's too great of a player and fits everything they need. Picking Castonzo at 17 really depends on whether or not they will be able to resign Light. If they're confident that they can bring Light back, I see them taking Watt or Heyward and then targeting a tackle in the later rounds.

It's so hard predicting who the patriots will take because they are just so unpredictable in drafts but always come out looking good. So I updated my picks.

#17- JJ Watt, DE: I just don't see them passing on him if he is here (and there's a large likliehood he will be)He fits what they need too well.

#28- Akeem Ayers, LB: I've had Brooks Reed and Justin Houston here, but Akeem Ayers has been falling due to a bad combine and could be there at 28. Everything I've read and watched on this guy just screams PATRIOTS,PATRIOTS,PATRIOTS because of how versatile he is.

#33- Leonard Hankerson, WR: Hankerson is not someone who anyone is talking about with the Patriots but I recently read that Patriot scouts were talking to Hankerson quite a bit at the senior bowl. That could mean something or nothing at all but they also attended Miami's pro day as well, perhaps to get another look at Hankerson. Mel Kiper has him going #28 to the Patriots but I don't think they take a receiver in the first round. This could be that pick that has patriot fans surprised once it's made just like the McCourty pick last year. Hankerson fills the big play playmaker at wide receiver that they need and he should be available at 33. I like Hankerson a lot more than Doss and he probably has much more upside than Doss. There have been Andre Johnson comparisons and you can see it in his play.

#60- Danny Watkins, G: Insurance for Mankins but can also be brought into to compete for the other guard with connelly. Watkins plays with a mean streak, is experienced and is another typical patriot pick.

#76- Shane Vereen, RB: Running back isn't a huge need with the emergence of Woodhead and Green-Ellis but let's face it Green-Ellis will drop off a little this year and Woodhead should not be used as much as he was this year. The Patriots have been linked to Vereen and he reminds me of Pierre Thomas. He is a very good receiver and has great explosion. He is the home run hitter to go with Green-Ellis and Woodhead.

#92- Ahmad Black, S: Black should still be there at #92 and with the latest Meriweather controversy, they need to find a replacement. Meriweather is also a free agent after the year and I don't see the Pats giving him a long term deal even if this shooting incident doesn't turn into much. Black is a playmaking safety, good character and is from Florida. PATRIOTS.

They've traded FIVE 3s in the last four years (two in 2009), four of them for 2s (in 2007 they got Oakland's 2008 #3, but they also got Randy Moss :lol2.

Just ran this using DRAFTTEK’s simulator. I had OLB, OL, DL, RB, WR and DB as highest priorities (no other positions were priorities). I traded Mankins and #60, and #92 to Denver for #36 and #46. I also assumed we ended up with 6th round compensatory pick for Ben Watson. As a result, we ended up with:

Great effort on this mock, I absolutely love the first five picks and if they fell this way, I would consider it an excellent draft.

I am especially high on Wilkerson. Tremendous lateral agility while playing with gap integrity. His ability to stack and shed is very impressive. Needs to get stronger, but could be starting by year two.

Boling is the only OG in this class that I think is an absolute must have for BB. Position versatile, excellent at Pulling, power at the POA. He needs work on knee bending but should be able to step in for Neal on day 1.
