The Patriots need a playmaker on either defense or offense. This is not a team that is a year or 2 away.

IMVHO, there are 3 players that could be worth trading up to as high as #10 to get. That would leave ample picks to draft good picks at needed positions.

Here are the 3 players that could be at #10 or a little bit lower.
1.Robert Quinn
2. Julio Jones
3.Aldon Smith

If they are not available between #10 and #15, I would wait for the draft to fall to us. I think that Jones will be a better pro than Green, who could be a bust.
So is my thinking flawed? What would you do?

I'd love to see them leave the first round with both JJ Watt and Aldon Smith.... and wouldn't care how they did it...

If we had to go to #10 to get Aldon Smith, then I say do it.

Or even Julio Jones, he's the got the whole package with speed, big body, physical, and good hands.....that's the type of WR we could use.

IMO Bowers is the only player worth trying to get in top 10.

...whereas I'd prefer Jordan and Watt to Bowers.

Nut, it looks like the premise of your poll is a tad controversial. :)

I love Jordan but don't think he's worth top ten pick. Not sold on Watt and think IMHO the safest pick among the three is Bowers. Why no love for Bowers?

Of the 5-technique prospects in the draft, Heyward and Watt seem like the most fitting to the Patriot's scheme and match the prototypical size that Belichick looks for in these players - especially one that he regards as a top-10 pick. With that said, I don't think Watt will be sitting there at #17, but Heyward might. I'm not even going to think about Dareus.

If the target is a 34 OLB. The most suitable players (with first round grades) are Miller, Smith, and Houston. Houston is not a top-20 pick (in my opinion) and many people don't think he is a first round talent. Smith is more of a project than Miller, but I think many teams view him as a 43 DE possibility. He will likely be gone at #17, but I think selecting him at #10 is reaching. Miller is a top-10 talent, but will likely not be there at #10. If he is, I would love the Patriots to move up and draft him.

It'd be a waste to move up to #10 to draft an OL or a RB because no player at these positions in this draft class is worth a top-10 pick.

AJ Green and Julio Jones certainly deserve top-15 grades, and Jones is said to be moving up draft boards due to his strong performance at the combine. While moving up to get one of these receivers is not a reach by any means, it is not a position of dire need like OLB or DE. Thus, to move up to #10 to draft a WR seems like an unconventional move, but one that would be much harder to argue.

tl;dr Miller, Smith, Watt, Green, Jones: go get 'em

If Smith and Watt are available at 10, I'd do something like 17 and 60 for #11 and 28 and 33 for #10 to get them both.

[ignoring Condon concerns, of course]

As for Bowers, he's an elephant OLB prospect, and I'll take the all-around OLB over the elephant.

Whoops, you wrote "Bowers" but I read "Quinn." Bowers I like much more, though I'd really like to see him run some LB drills, or at least get shuttle and cone times.

is a very interesting thought. and we'd certainly be getting 2 great prospects.

In the process however we'd be losing 33 and 60 which i have said many times i am not a fan of... interesting tho is those 2 players are studs my value theory could go out the window.

There are several players like Bowers, Darius, Failey that I did not include because I assumed they would be gone in the top 10.

Now Jones could slide down to us at @17 because of his foot injury. I doubt it, but it's possible.

This year I'd like to see the Patriots grab a playmaker, if they are convinced that player is as close to a sure thing as you can get in the draft. If that means moving up, they have the ammo to do it and still have quality picks after that.

IMO there is only one player worth a move into the top 10 and that is for Miller. if AZ and SF pass on miller(which both could do for qbs) i think he could drop to Number 9 which would cost you 17+74+92, that coupled with clayborn at 28 (if you told me that you could get clayborn at 28 last april i would have thought you were higher than charlie sheen) and carimi/pouncey at 33 plus an rb or wr at 60 would be my perfect scenario.

The Poll is slanted toward the point of view expressed.

Those who don't agree with moving up are made to look a little ridiculous with those remaining two picks. BB wd not like that since he rarely moves up in the draft.

Actually I think we could do very well by standing pat or by moving down to say 25 in the first and second. Players always fall for one thing, and for two the Pats staff have their own picks which, you can be sure, will not line up with most of the mock drafts you see.

Now now, you mustn't point out the fact that Nut "is" ridiculous by nature, it's just not done in polite circles. ;)

Be careful, Box, or patchick might make you spend an hour outside the next time it rains. :)

Wow, am I the only one who thinks Miller is like Curry in 09? What has Curry done? Trading away our 3rd round picks....we use those to trade for future 2nds! Clayborn at 28?? Not a chance. Carimi/Pouncey @33? Hey Charlie Sheen put down the crack pipe! I think any mock you will see you will see all those guys picked long before those spots. Who is your RB??

I supposed Box and Nut should get a legal exemption, like the Amish. Shooting rubber bands and throwing spitballs and each other is part of their long-established culture.

He did it first! :enranged:

Please see the sticky thread on being civil.

If I can be civil to Box, then there is no excuse for others.
