The Patriots have RB needs/questions, so here's the obligatory "Would you want him?" Thread.

Clinton Portis: Redskins release coming today | ProFootballTalk

How many miles are on the car with those tires :D.

Hes in the same category as Fred Taylor. Lots of carries and can't stay healthy.

Hes had a tremendous career....

I remember watching Curran Events a few month ago and Curran was saying how Portis might be a decent pickup if available.

I would rather invest in a young back out of the draft.....Morris,BJGE,Faulk and Woody will do just fine without adding another aging back that can't stay healthy......

I read somewhere that the RB crop in this draft is a bit deeper than at first realized....probably can pick up a decent back in the 3rd round....

Really? Im pretty surprised that know body thinks he can still play, Taylor was a guy who juked a lot then ran up the middle, Portis is a pure power back, with our O-Line, that could be pretty dangerous.

Nobody even wants to give this guy a shot? Fred Taylor is Fred Taylor, just because they are similar doesn't mean they will produce the same results. Just sayin. :)

Well, give him a decent O-line and he wouldn't have to run right at 7 guys every time. lol

The question is, would you sign Clinton Portis for the right price? I think it would be worth a shot. I mean I agree 100% that it would be a bad idea to sign any aging veteran, (that looks like he is running out of gas) to a large contract, but Portis has been in Washington for the past 7 years, how many winning seasons did they have? 1 or 2 maybe?

Just a though, only because he bring leadership and all of his diva stuff hasn't really been present the last couple of years. If the price were right, should the Pats sign Clinton Portis?

Portis is a cut-n-go runner so he would fit in this system. I think the years of him complaining about his contract and mgt are behind him. He's hanging on at this point. He must know that.

I'd prefer a potential Tier-1, breakaway-runner but 100-150 carries for Portis? Why not? Only problem is that he can't really play STs and his explosiveness may not be there anymore.

Question is...Would Belichick really be interested in a guy that dresses like this in his spare time??

He's a fierce pass blocker which would really add to his value if he were here.

I'd take him at the right price. I too believe that his problem is health. His YPC was pretty good considering the team he was on. And yeah, he can block with the best of em.

If health wasn't a problem, I would take him, but he is like Bob Sanders, how many games will he play?

Absolutely not. You can definitely find someone who will be more productive. I'm kind of a hypocrite because I'd actually want a guy like Bob Sanders on this team.

If he is injury prone on a grass field in DC ...what is he gonna be like on a frozen turf field?

Look at how well Fred Taylor did with the switch from grass to turf.

Actually this is huge. The Patriots have not had a devastator back there since Corey Dillion. Dillion just used to kill guys; a true joy to see. There was nothing like seeing a steroid-pumped goon break through the line expecting to clobber Brady only to have his handed to him by Dillion.
