This isnt a 'lets sign him' thread; just an interesting release!

Must be happy with David Thomas!

Well, probably Jimmy Graham more than Thomas.

Re: OT: Saints release TE Shockey

Yesterdays news ... played for a NY team so he's dead to me.

Saints didn't want to keep around TE Jeremy Shockey and his $4.5 million in salary. Next big call is on Reggie Bush and his $11.8 million.

Re: OT: Saints release TE Shockey

I wonder if the Chiefs or Rams will be interested.

Sign the beast.

Someone had to say it.

Re: Saints release TE Shockey

i think the saints will wait until the draft to see what to do about Reggie Bush. If Mark ingram is available at 22, then they'll nab him and release Reggie.

Yep, and if Bush does not want to play for $2M, SP will let him go. Davis and Graham are great starters, plus shockey was hurt every season, love the shock but aww well. I guess he wouldn't deal with Loomis, Reggie better take note and take what Loomis offers or he will be a feature RB on a different team running 30-40 snaps, not sure he can survive that.

This is our thread on it
Saints release Shockey

BTY we did wake PJ Hill, pretty good back
Saints Waive PJ Hill

Drew Rosenhaus says Shockey is "very interested" in playing for the Miami Dolphins.

Re: Saints release TE Shockey

Wow, unless he takes a massive paycut I bet he's released.

Woodhead=750k
Reggie Bush=11million

Honestly, who's the better 3rd down back. The undrafted DII white 5'7 RB or the #2 pick flop from USC? I love the NFL. :D

You're out of your damn mind if you think Woodhead > Bush. I love Woodhead too but let's be realistic.

Football Outsiders (DYAR = total season, DVOA = play-by-play relative to replacement level):

Rushing:
Woodhead: 185 DYAR, +41.5% DVOA
Bush: -3 DYAR, -10.9% DVOA

Receiving:
Woodhead: 156 DYAR, +56.3% DVOA
[Green-Ellis: 31 DYAR, +17.8% DVOA]
Bush: 30 DYAR, -1.4% DVOA

I forgot how Reggie Bush is a HoF player, and has been so good no one can defend him

michael bush is better than reggie bush lol

I like Bush's ability but I don't think he's worth 11 million. I still like Woody better though.

Woody gives you a lot more bang for your buck. Bush is explosive but he's also injury prone(Woody hasn't been around long but he hasn't been hurt yet...). Bush is by no means far and away better. Saints were crazy to give him 7 last year let alone possibly 11 next year.

You have no disagreement with me on who I'd rather have for their respective price, no RB is worth 11 mil except someone with legendary talent and production IMO (Someone like Brown, Payton). However, if you could get Bush for the same price as Woodhead you'd just have to take Bush. I love Woodhead he's a great player for us, but Bush is just insanely explosive with the ball in his hands in that third down roll.

I can't believe I'm saying this but Woodhead does things Bush can't. Bush has a nice shimmy but he can't crease things like Woodhead can. Bush is an excellent 3rd down back with the feet to flex out and play the slot. Woodhead is a good 3rd down back that you can run zone with.

I'd take Danny Woodhead a 100 times out of 100 over Reggie Bush. Bush always struck me as one of the softer players in the league.

You don't even need made up baseball nerd sabermetric nonsense to prove your point. Real actual stats do fine.

Reggie Bush:

Rushing / Recieving
2006 155 565 3.6 6 / 88 742 8.4 2
2007 157 581 3.7 4 / 73 417 5.7 2
2008 106 404 3.8 2 / 52 440 8.5 4
2009 70 390 5.6 5 / 47 335 7.1 3
2010 36 150 4.2 0 / 34 208 6.1 1

For an average of 105 rushes for 418 yards 4.0 ypc and 3 TD
59 catches for 428 yards 7.3 ypc and 2 TD

Danny Woodhead 2010 season
97 rushes for 547 yards 5.6 5 TD
34 catches for 379 yards 11.1 1 TD

Looks like Shockey is signing with Carolina.

Looks like I'm signing with Carolina. Time for the Next chapter. This is a great opportunity for me, and I am excited to play football. Lets hope we all have the chance to play this season.

Could do very well with them. They don't have much receiving from the TEs, so whoever QBs the team will have another player now.
