What happened? Suddenly the site is responding quickly. Hallelujah!

I know, it's wild! Well done admins!!

Yeah, seriously, it's better at the moment than it's been in a great long while. Even before the DOS attacks the old server was running slowly. If this speed stands then Patsfans is not only back, but better than ever!

I've noticed the new taglines under our names as a new upgrade, as well as some of the new graphics on the buttons and such, but one new feature I'm not familiar with is this Zoints Profile thing.. What is that?

Maybe it's because just a few minutes ago I followed your lead and went over to the Planet - my post there was my first in over a year!

But I'd rather be here.

I like that place, but this is home.

I'll probably continue to post both places though.

It's so fast, it's blowing my hair back.:rocker:

This is home for me too, although I still like KFFL site despite the jerks who run it. They have quite a few good posters and good discussions over there.

It's because the main site is down. I'm finding out that there is a file from here that was being executed there, which slowed the board down. As traffic increases this board slows down waiting for that file, and when that site goes down then the forum starts loading quickly again.

I'm on the phone now and investigating.

This is why posters should bookmark the forum's new address (the main site can be down while the forum is up and running like normal). I just did today.

And just as suddenly, the site has gone back to glacially slow. The theory that there is something in the new site which references the old site is a good one. I hope you find out what it is soon, Ian!

There's definitely an issue. After spending 40 minutes on the phone, I've learned that we've slowed that server down so much that the rest of the sites on there were also affected. It's back up (which is slowing the board down, again) so they can trace where it's coming from, and once we figure it out I'll be taking care of it. After that we'll be moving everything over here so the domain will resolve correctly and hopefully eliminate the issue.

Yeah, it did drop back off, but at least that burst of speed shows us what this site WILL be when it's all patched up.

Hopefully the phonecalls Ian is making clears it up for him. And us.

I'm curious to see what it is, but it's good to know that it will be taken care of. I've been getting the runaround for days and this is the most information I've been given since I've started investigating this.

You rock, Ian. Thanks as always for the time you put into this site on a volunteer basis.

You know how much all your efforts are appreciated, Ian -- but 32 seconds to open this page at 3.20 in the afternoon. Hope you can get it fixed!

And now it's back to being fast again for the moment.

Hopefully because Ian found and fixed the problem, not because the old site is down again. But either way, I have confidence that Ian will soon have it fixed and the frustrating delays will soon be a thing of the past.
