As per Reiss:

A great loss. This guy has done a seriously good job for us this year.

That was a big blow to our defense.

I won't believe his career is over until he says it is.

But he's said it was over once before...

Who is out there that the Pats can pull off the scrap heap and resurrect their career?

I hope we see him back next year. Best wishes.

who do we pick up to replace him? any thoughts?

Damn and Beisel is in Arizona now.

Anyone have any insight as to who might see some more playing time now, Alexander, Woods, or Mays? Obviously TBC's gotta step up now and Don Davis will probably get in some but what about the young guys? I'd really like to see us start grooming someone to play some ILB for us...

Sad...I hope he reconsiders...and plays next year....I'd hate to think he went out like he has...

He hasn't said his career is over. He could probably play next year.

But they need to start drafting guys who can play in the middle. Or sign a FA. Right now it's Bruschi and Vrabel and that's it. Maybe Mays?

Unlike defensive back and O-line, the Pats don't have much of a shadow roster at LB. The Pats worked out two veteran inside linebackers during training camp - Orlando Huff and Chris Claiborne - but each is now with the Cardinals and Giants, respectively. The following is a list of linebackers the Pats cut in training camp:

Monty Biesel: now with the Cardinals
Chad Brown: now with the Steelers
Jeremy Mincey: 49ers practice squad
Freddie Roach: Lowe's

No doubt Pioli's rolodex is thicker than that. However, going off the most recent dealings of this team, the thing to do now that Seau's on IR is either:

1) sign Mincey off the 49er's practice squad to our active roster
2) bring Antwan Spann back to the active roster, and sign Roach to the PS

Or maybe Ted Johnson and Roman Phifer are feeling frisky.

The guy played with a ton of heart and was a leader. The concern was that he would freelance, but as far as I saw he played within the system and did hios job. I hope the team plays well down the stretch and get him a ring (which he will have earned for his play this year. I would love to see him come back for another year, if he wants.

Actually, the Pats worked out Claiborne and Orlando Ruff.

Orlando Ruff is still a free agent.

Orlando Huff has been with the Cardinals since September of 2005. ;)

Here's what you do. Sign Orlando Ruff. Then take him to Arizona and, when no one's looking, switch him with Orlando Huff. It's Arizona. Ruff will be happy to have a job, Huff will be happy to be playing for a real football team, and no one on the Cardinals staff will be the wiser until after their season ends, and the Pats will get off scot-free.

Yeah, okay, I blew it. :bricks:

Nice.

I can't believe that Dat Nguyen is available. He's only 31 and was a GREAT player, but, according to the internet, he retired with a neck injury.

Yeah, if there's one player you're never going to see on the field again from pats1's list, its Dat.

If there's a second player from that list that will never come back, its Mike Maslowski. He reportedly has a degenerative bone-on-bone condition in his left knee. Terrell Davis-esqe. Pats brought him in just over a year ago and nothing came of it. He hasn't played a game in over three years.

It is a big hit. Seems like this kind of thing always happens when the team is on a strong run. Means everybody's got to pull together even tighter than before. Got to lift their game up another notch. Get on the same page and pull as one. We *can* do this !!
