Don Banks' 2.0 Mock

Wilkerson gone at #24 in this mock, too.

IDK that Watt is necessarily gone by #8, but I'm beginning to have serious doubts that he's still available by #17. This is somewhat amazing to me when I consider that just 3-4 months ago, Watt appeared to be a 3rd-4th round "sleeper" on many boards.

KILLER, isn't it??

Phil Taylor was a guy I was loving in the 4th Round, back in October, and now he's invading the Upper First.

DaQuan Bowers has had a spectacular ascension, too, of course.

Ditto, Aldon Smith.

But NOTHING that I can think of challenges the meteoric rises of Nick Fairley and Cam Newton, as they helped lead Auburn to the Championship.

I don't see a receiver at 28, no way. Does anyone think Smith compares to Bryant? How many times did we pass on him? Granted, a lot of other factors come into play (character) but still...

i couldnt believe we passed on bryant twice last year. the guy looks like hes gonna be special. your right too, now were gonna pull the trigger on the 3rd or 4th best WR in the 1st round, when we couldve had bryant, the consensus number 1 WR last year and passed....twice?? no way.

We got this guy named McCourty, maybe you've heard of him. Anyways what good would a reciever do if the Oline doesn't give Brady enough time to throw to him?

About as much good as drafting a RB to run behind a line that doesn't block well...

Agreed. A lot of fans get enamored with WR's and RB's and disregard the fact that with out a line to block they arent' worth much. I ve seen WR's and RB's shut down because of a poor O-line, but i dont' think i have to tell you that.

dosnt block well? really? our BAD line gave up the 4th fewest sacks in the league last year. 9th most rushing yards in the league. 5th least amount of QB hits. John Madden just graded us as the best line of 2010. what more do you guys want from our line. Brady had one of his best years throwing the ball last year, and they helped BGE, an undrafted FA go over 1000 yards on the season.

Yes, believe it or not, i have heard of McCourty. But do you really think you would have heard as much about him if Bodden played all year? I remember guys saying great things about Butler too. that didnt work out so well. Dont get me wrong, I really like McCourty, and i think he will be a good player for us. But i also think that Dez Bryant has the potential to be special and would have had a bigger impact on our team last year, and for years to come.

What does Bodden playing have to do with the talent Mccourty has, he would have shown it eventually and taken the spot opposite of Bodden. Butler Never showed the talent that mccourty showed. Going by your thinking maybe Bryant would end up a one year wonder. Do you mean Madden the game? If you do forget about it. And finally the O-line played well until it really mattered, which has happened for the last three years or so.

Mccourty may not have been forced into action his rookie year if we had Bodden from the get go. im not saying hes not good at all. but certain factors played a big part in his success this year. our line has been good for years now. by your logic the regular season dosnt matter. we played against 2 good defenses the last 2 years in the playoffs. both prob were top 5 if not top 3 in the league in their respective years. and no. i dont mean madden the video game, im not even sure what your talking about as to why i would be referring to a video game in the first place.

The line is fine. back to my point, we need playmakers to keep the defense from blitzing Brady and stacking the line. No one fears Tate. And Welker isnt gonna burn anybody for a big play. We need a WR to stretch the field. One that teams have to account for.

this is what i mean about the madden award. im not allowed to post links yet apparently so ill just copy and past it. info from Patriots.com.

CINCINNATI, February 3, 2011 - The New England Patriots added another noteworthy accomplishment to an already impressive 2010 regular season when it was announced the Patriots offensive line has been selected as the winner of the 2010 Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award, presented by Prilosec OTC®. Pro Football Hall of Fame coach JOHN MADDEN and Prilosec OTC presented the award, which honors the NFL's best offensive line, to New England's front five during a press event in North Texas earlier today. Accepting the trophy on behalf of the New England Patriots were offensive linemen Dan Koppen, Dan Connolly and Mark LeVoir.

As a proud six-year sponsor of the NFL, Prilosec OTC presents the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award to recognize the fundamental role offensive linemen play in their teams' success by providing reliable protection day in and day out, just as Prilosec OTC can provide 24-hour heartburn protection when used as directed1. The award is based on a combination of criteria including offensive line statistics - sacks allowed, rushing and passing yardage, time of possession, O-line penalties, 3rd and 4th down conversion percentages and red zone scoring conversions, fan voting and coach Madden's own personal observations throughout the season.

The Patriots players providing the powerful protection up front this season were tackles MATT LIGHT (Purdue) and SEBASTIAN VOLLMER (Houston); guards DAN CONNOLLY (Southeast Missouri State) and LOGAN MANKINS (Fresno State); and center DAN KOPPEN (Boston College). Adding depth on the Patriots offensive line were, MARK LEVOIR (Notre Dame), STEPHEN NEAL (Cal State-Bakersfield), RICH OHRNBERGER (Penn State), QUINN OJINNAKA (Syracuse) and RYAN WENDELL (Fresno State).

"The offensive line doesn't always catch the fans' attention, so Prilosec OTC and I created this award to recognize the guys who provide the critical run blocking and pass protection," said John Madden. "All season long, these guys proved they had the mental and physical toughness that enabled the Patriots offense to put up impressive numbers on the ground and in the air."

Throughout the regular season, Coach Madden closely tracked the top offensive lines in the NFL and narrowed the field of contenders to five (5) finalists: the ATLANTA FALCONS, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS, NEW YORK GIANTS and the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS. Each of the finalists had been recognized at least once this season by Madden as an "O-Line of the Week" for their consistent and reliable protection.

Contributing to their Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award win, the Patriots offensive line provided reliable run blocking and powerful pass protection for the top-ranked offense in the NFL. The Patriots led the league in points per game (32.4) and ranked 4th in sacks allowed (25). They finished 8th in average yards (363.8), ranked 9th in average rushing yards (123.3) and ranked 11th in passing yards per game (240.4).

Weighing 102 pounds, The Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award trophy is the heaviest trophy in NFL history and is a tribute to the NFL's toughest protectors on the offensive line.

Sacks and QB hits have as much to do with Brady as it does with the line. And, since you didn't actually watch the games, let me fill you in.

Koppen was horrible most of the season. His play "improved" once Mankins returned. Koppen blew blocking calls several times and it got Brady creamed against the Jets and Ravens in particular.

Connolly was below average at LG and average at RG. He's a significant drop off from Neal, nevermind Mankins.

Light isn't signed right now and he may not be back. So the Pats have a big hole to fill at one of the tackle positions depending on what they do with Vollmer and whether or not Light re-signs.

Yes, we'd have heard just as much about McCourty as Bodden because they play different sides of the field. McCourty won the starting job out of camp and he'd have been there opposite Bodden.

thanks for filling me in. just like you..ive seen just as many games, im just not a ****..something for you to shoot for.

Devin McCourty says hi. You know rookie all-pro and pro bowl starter at CB. If you're still bitter about that pick, you haven't been paying attention this past season. :)

i kno, i kno. hahaha. for the last time, I LOVE MCCOURTY. just think Bryant is really good. who knows, McCourty will prob be better than Bryant now that i said that. but we'll see i guess. One more time....i LOVE McCourty!

You clearly haven't seen squat for games despite your claim to the contrary. And your getting defensive about it proves that I am dead on. Just deal with the fact that you were wrong about McCourty and about the O-line. Do yourself a favor and learn more about the where the team stands in terms of free agents and the positions on the team that are lacking or in need of an infusion of youth. Like the O-line. You'll be better off for it and you won't have to be the **** you claim others are.

Ahhh....It brings joy to my heart to hear such Wisdom, gentlemen.

It ALL comes down to Brother Blue's last line there.

You can have WORLD CLASS "Skill Position" talent, and it doesn't matter diddly, if you lose The Battle In The Trenches.

~ Brady and his magnificent crew of Wide Outs couldn't get anything done against the Giants.
~ Better Yet: Peyton and his fun bunch ~ in the 2004 Divisional ~ were HELPLESS against us.

Our O Line Grizzlies have been very good, the last few years.

But "very good" has clearly not been "good enough", without a Tenacious D to pair with.

That goes for the D-line as well brother Grid.
