The knicks gave up a lot to get him but now they have chauncey running the point with Melo at the 3 and amare at the 5.....They also acquired Corey brewer in a separate trade and he is a solid 2 guard....Yes they depleted their bench in this trade but they will have a very talented starting 5 overall....The east just keeps getting tougher.....The Celtics will have to get someone to replace Marquis soon and get him acclimated....I like Battier so if the celts get him I think that would be huge...

I'm a Knicks fan, but this trade just doesn't excite me. I think they gave up way too much to get him, and I think Isiah had too much to do with it (no matter how much Walsh and Dolan deny it). I am curious to see how it works out, but my first impression is just not good.

And if Isiah comes back in any "official" capacity I am burning my Knicks gear and denouncing them. There is a team being bad, and there is a team being a toxic dump from ownership on down.

Those callers don't understand the NBA. The Knicks made out like bandits in this trade.
In the NBA, having 2 studs is far more important than a bunch of above average players.

The Knicks now have 2 of the best 10 players, and their 2 players are in their prime age-wise. They can more easily find role players to replace the ones they traded, than it would be to find 2 studs.

Also, Billups and Brewer are very underrated in this deal. Billups is a great 3 point shooter, a savvy veteran, and a past champion. Brewer is an excellent 2-guard defender and a great role player.

After the Big Three retire, it will be painful to watch a contender Knicks team beat up on an average Celtics team. It will be like the 1990's all over again.

Very fair point, and something I hadn't really thought of. Basketball isn't football, after all.

I don't know, we'll see how it works out. I just don't think D'Antoni-Ball is going to win an NBA Championship, Melo and Amare or not.

Agreed that D'Antoni-ball is just modern day Nellie-ball. It won't win championships. Defense (and interior toughness in the post) wins championships.

The Knicks aren't built to win this year anyways. They'll get a year or two to play together, get comfortable, all while they start accumulating and finding the right role players. Then, D'Antoni will be fired, and they'll bring in an elite coach to take them to the top (while the Celtics start their fall).

It's a little bit like the Lakers 10 years ago, with Del Harris coaching Kobe and Shaq before Phil Jackson arrived.

While I don't disagree about your comment about having the 2 studs.....The knicks bench is like having a D-league team on the bench.....They are going with the Heat view on bringing in the studs and trying to build around them.....I think everyone has looked at what the Celtics did and trying to immulate having a big 3 but it won't happen with young guys in their prime that all want to score.....I also disagree that the Celtics fall.....If I remember correctly KG and Ray's contracts come off the board after next season....You will still have Rondo and Pierce (for a good season or 2) and I feel with Danny in power he will bring in some guys to keep this team competitive.....Plus the X factor is if Doc stays as the head coach in the future....I wasn't a Doc fan in the beginning but he really has done a terrific job with this team the last couple of seasons and who's to say he can't continue in the future.....

Personally, I've always thought that Carmelo was overrated. He's constantly talked about in the same breath as the Kobe's of the league, but isn't even in the top five, IMO. Still, he's a good player and will pay dividends for New York playing alongside Amar'e. It's a start for the Knicks and if they can get either Chris Paul or Dwight Howard next season, they will be formidable. The trade itself is definitely a good thing. I hate the Knicks, but the NBA is that much better when they're good. It also brings the Heat/Knicks rivalry back to life.

As for moves at the trade deadline, Chris Broussard was just on SportsCenter and stated that he didn't believe that Boston or L.A. will make a move before the trade deadline. He said that neither team really had the assets to make any moves. He DID say that Miami was trying to move Mike Miller and that they were potentially interested in Nane, but that nobody was really interested in bringing Miller and his five year deal in.
