Who Would Trade Up To #14 To Get (using #17 + #74)

I voted the two CB's, Quinn, and Jordan. These are players who would seem to possibly fit our scheme who are currently projected to go higher than 14, making them values. Should have voted Dareus as well. No real interest in trading up for either of the two WR's, Miller, or Ingram (who should be there at 17).

Peterson is clearly the top DB in this draft and if he fell that far i'd take him. Pairing him with McCourty would give them 2 potential shutdown corners and give them great depth and youth at DB. If the talent were comparable i'd rather have a great pass rusher but I don't think there is any player in this draft who is more of a sure thing than Peterson is.

Why not 3 in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd? It is easilty doable.

I don't think it makes much sense to trade up in this draft unless the goal is to shoot for the moon and enter the top 10. Even then I'd balk at the price. In my mind the quality of the talent that is going to be taken between 11-16 won't be that much better than the talent that is available between 21-28. I'd rather see them trade down and pick up some ammo to move up into the back end of the 1st.

In the mock I'm preparing, I'm working through scenarios that have the Pats taking 3 players in the 1st round and 2 in the 2nd. It's top heavy yes but I'd rather see them target immediate players to plug in than projects with this draft.

And I should know. :p

If Dareus is there at 13 and BB trades into the spot, he might set a land speed record running up to the podium personally.

I think that if BB had the top pick in the draft (and actually was forced to make the pick) Dareus would be his guy, so I don't think it would be any different at 13.

Peterson would also be a good pick.

In favor of whom? His team has a clear need for a DE, and the best 3-4 in the draft, who happens to have 2 years excelling in Belichick's defense, falls to 17 and Bill passes on him?

Is there something about Dareus I'm missing? Child molester or something?

Weight control issues, learning issues, and a complete lack of length.

He thinks Dareus, at 6'3, is too short to play DE, but that he'd be a good fit if he was 6'4.

I've never heard anything regarding learning issues (not that I've dug deep looking). I guess we'll see how he measures up at the Combine. I'd be surprised if he wasn't over 6'3 1/2, and might be an inch taller than that. Dareus can play the position, and play it very well. Everybody else we're guessing on. I can't imagine a safer 1st round pick this year.

At 6'3'' with only average arms for that height, he lacks good enough length. If he were 6'4'' and had average arms for that height, then he'd be an adequate fit. Not good, just adequate. What the Pats really need is a guy who is 6'5'' or taller with long arms. Think JJ Watt, Cameron Heyward, Muhammad Wilkerson. No coincidence that the most dominant DE in this scheme in recent history was over 6'6'' and had very long arms.

Weight and learning issues just make things worse. Wes Bunting, for example, has Dareus 17th on his big board, and that's in general, not just for this scheme.

Well, I hold Wes Bunting at about the same level as Todd McShay, which is below Mel Kiper, who can't evaluate a cardboard box but at least has a network of sources who talk to him. Regardless, I'll take a guy who's 6'4", or even 6'3", and can dominate the position in the best conference in the NCAA than a 6'5" projection from a low-level conference.

And as Bunting says, "There are some concerns about his overall weight fluctuation and work rate off the field. Also, there is some concern about him handling a real complex playbook."

This aren't his concerns, those are the concerns of the guys he's talking to.

And I'd rather go for a guy who has a high ceiling in the scheme, rather than a guy who is the most ready to jump in from day 1, but will never be as good as Ty Warren was in his prime.

Peterson at 13 would make me very happy and nervous about a few other areas for a while. Too good to pass up though.

WOW.

Wes Bunting is GALAXIES ahead of Todd McShay and Mel Kiper, who are both, in the fine words of Gunny Hartman, Equally Worthless.

GALAXIES.

The man does his homework.

I am the LAST guy to back up Sciz, who I find quite rude ~ and who I perceive as agreeing with ME!! :D ~ but YOUR credibility, sir, just went

Let us presume that the Lions would take our #17 and our #74 to moveup to #13. Who would you be willing to move up for?

You can choose as many as you wish.

To make this poll work, I am not including quarterbacks, Fairley or Bowers.

Quinn and Miller only.

Either a stud DL or Patrick Peterson if he is really the next Champ Bailey. Imagine having 2 McCourty caliber corners?
