Ponder has Patriots-kind-of-guy written all over him; he gets "it."

Christian Ponder.

Ricky Stanzi.

Andy Dalton.

Greg McElroy.

THOSE are the guys worth drafting.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I would draft ANY of those 4 guys ahead of ANY of the Big Four ~ Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, and Ryan Mallett.

REGARDLESS of Draft Position.

The Little Big 4 will outplay and outwin The Big 4.

Mark me.

Bunting has been getting much better in the past few years. For a while he was the quintessential cursory analyst who really didn't have a feel fir the nuance, intricacies, and trends of the game. Lately he seems to really be spot on. Heck of an article, and I really like Ponder's game as well. He should be the best player at his position from this draft. Unlike Jamarcus Newton, Ryan Maleaf, and Blaine Gabbert, he truly has the je ne sais quoi. Nice find, my insane friend.

I would not be surprised to see Bill draft a QB this year ... Tom is no spring chicken and who knows one of these guys could be the next Matt Casell or better. Good business to draft a QB ... build them up and trade them down the line for a higher pick.

I'm with you 100%: Keep drafting the Late Round + Round 8 Field Generals, with the PLAN to develop them and trade them for juicy 2nd Round Picks...Meanwhile, you've got a guy ~ or two ~ on the bench who can come in when needed and take command of the team. One day ~ hopefully in about 8 years or so!! ~ one of them'll need to do so on a lasting basis...And then we can continue doing the same thing, developing QB's behind him.

Great Article. I feel the same way as Bunting about the top 4 QBs. However, I don't really like the mid round prospects either. In my opinion this is the worst QB class ever! I know that sounds harsh but I wouldn't draft one of these guys in the top 2 rounds!

I have seen all of these guys play atleast 5-10 times and I don't feel confident about one of them being anything more than a backup. The 2007 QB class was absolutely horrible but atleast Kevin Kolb went in that class. I don't see a Kolb in this class.

Look at how much better the QB class is next year:
1. Andrew Luck
2. Matt Barkley
3. Landry Jones
4. Kirk Cousins

I like all four of these players more than any QB in this class.

I'm right with you OTG. Currently I have Newton and Mallett rated as 2nd rounders, Gabbert as a 3 and Locker a 5. All come with way too much risk. I'm not that high on Dalton, but I do like Ponder, McElroy and Stanzi. I also think Enderle is an interesting prospect.

I don't get the Ponder love.

I don't get the Ponder love.

I don't love Ponder. I don't love any QBs in this class. I just think Ponder has more talent than most of the QBs here. If he was to last beyond the 3rd round, I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him. My top rated guy in the class is Stanzi. I'm probably the only one who has him as #1, but I just don't see any QB worthy of a 1st round grade. Next year may be different though. I like Luck a lot and Geno Smith is one of my favorite prospects. Put him on your radar if he's not already there. Of course neither one may come out until 2013. :(

Very interesting point!! Luck certainly was the cream of the crop, but I hadn't given much thought to the rest'f'm...

Locker as a 5th ~ LOVE it!! And I think you're absolutely correct.

Nice call on Stanzi!! The more I read about him, the more I like him...

And I'll definitely keep an eye on Mr Smith.

I have trouble imagining any scenario that ends with the Patriots drafting a first-round QB before the last year of TFB's contract.

I wouldn't mind if Kirk Cousins ended up the next Brian Hoyer. :)

My sleeper (and highly biased) quarterback for next year, Captain Kirk. One of the only two Sophomore captains in 112 years of MSU history. He's better than Stanzi, he just needs to work on his decision making and stop throwing off his god damned back foot when he gets flustered.

Haha yeah my evaluations of the QBs are definitely different than most. This is my top 20 as of right now:

1) Ricky Stanzi - 2nd
2) Cam Newton - 2nd
3) Ryan Mallett - 2nd
4) Blaine Gabbert - 3rd
5) Christian Ponder - 4th
6) Greg McElroy - 4th
7) Jake Locker - 5th
8) Andy Dalton - 5th
9) Scott Tolzien - 5th
10) Nathan Enderle - 6th
11) Pat Devlin - 6th
12) Taylor Potts - 6th
13) T.J. Yates - 7th
14) Mike Hartline - 7th
15) Colin Kaepernick - 7th
16) Ben Chappell - 7th
17) Jerrod Johnson - udfa
18) Jeff Van Camp - udfa
19) Justin Roper - udfa
20) Tyrod Taylor - udfa

The QB that I would like to see the Patriots draft is Kaepernick. He is likely two years away from being polished. Quite OK with me as he possesses a combination of good to very good qualities that just need more development. His initial value would be as a scout team QB/possible situational WR while 3rd QB on depth chart. Probably a healthy inactive most game days in year one and a legitimate competitor for 2nd QB in year two. Especially if Hoyer isn't with us after this season. Could be had 3rd Round and beyond and almost a lock to make the team. The one drawback I see is him moving up boards with a solid combine. His athletic abilities should be among the best there.

Stanzi is quite interesting, even more so since I found out he linked up with TFB's mentor to improve his throwing mechanics. You have to like guys that will work, by their own choice, to improve their skill. That kind of work ethic simply can't be taught.

I could NOT have said it better, myself.

Stanzi has a FRIGHTENING Work Ethic.

BIG fan.
